  1. It's hard to imagine the Bills not going out of their way to get Allen an elite pass catcher. The Bills need an elite deep threat to stretch the field with Foster.
  2. No brainer. He's young, and adds toughness and size to our interior line rotation. We just need a 3-technique who can rush the passer now, although Shaq Lawson showed last week kicking him inside on passing downs could be an option.
  3. The flashes are there and after year 1 he has a much higher floor than I expected due to his truly elite running ability. There are still lots of issues that popped up on his scouting reports, and he makes a lot of mistakes, but there are enough flashes for me to understand why some people are extremely optimistic. I get where you're coming from and I understand many of the points you make. My issues are still rooted in the notion that guys with accuracy issues who don't consistently place the ball in spots for their receiver to run after the catch typically aren't successful in becoming elite quarterbacks. He had too many accuracy and ball placement issues on short passes for me to think those will just go away next season. I think he's always going to be a guy who leaves you scratching your head a couple times a game when he misses a wide open running back or a receiver on a crossing route. A while ago there was an article on how the Bills need to ignore what Allen struggles with and go all in on allowing him to do what he does well. What he does well is simple; running, and throw driven passes down the field to stationary targets or targets running deep. Take crossing routes and soft touch passes out of the playbook. If you celebrate what he does well, the Bills need to do two things. 1. Draft speed receivers. Robert Foster and Isaiah McKenzie sparked the offense. Figure out who is the best deep threat of the top 3-4 receivers in this draft and go get that guy to stretch the field. We don't need a possession receiver who gets open on crossing routes because Allen struggles to complete those passes. 2. Get more athletic on the offensive line. If Allen is going to run around, get some linemen who can also run around a bit, and pick up second blocks when he escapes the pocket. Some bigger holes in the run game would also make our vertical play action pass game much better. I'm not sure Allen will ever be a top QB, but I think he can probably win some games in the NFL. I think he could wind up being a slightly worse version of Cam Newton who has been both good and bad over the course of his career.
  4. Agreed. Trade down into the 20s with a team who wants an impact defensive player, and pick up extra picks. Then go all out adding young talent to the offense. Would prefer to see us upgrade the offensive line in free agency and add young talent to the offensive skill positions. The OL free agent market is going to be considerably better than the garbage that will be available at WR and TE.
  5. This would be such a terrible hire. They have a budding super star in Baker Mayfield and you're going to give him a retread coach whose teams consistently under performed for the past 5 seasons? They need to hire a college coach or an innovative coordinator. Keeping Greg Williams and letting him go get a coordinator would also be a better option.
  6. Probably one more shot.
  7. I think that will be the difference between playoffs or no playoffs in 2019. Those should be two wins instead of two losses simply based off the fact we were 3rd in our division instead of 2nd.
  8. Guys he's liked. QB, DL, OT, WR he misses all the time.
  9. With our 2019 opponents set, I wanted to take a way too early look at how people think we'll do. Home Pats - L Jets - W Fins - W Broncos - W Bengals - W Ravens - W Eagles - W Redskins - W Away Pats - L Jets - W Fins - W Titans - W Steelers - L Browns - L Giants - W Cowboys - L I expect the Bills to upgrade the offensive line in free agency, and continue building out the defense with affordable veteran options who fit our scheme. In the draft, I think we'll stock up on offensive skill players, by targeting a wide receiver, running back and tight end early in the draft. The result should be an improved team, where the offense takes steps forward and the defense ascends to being one of the top units in the league with much of the core already in place. Finishing 3rd in the AFC East will be a blessing in disguise, drawing the Titans and Broncos instead of the Colts and Chargers (The Dolphins are going to be one of the 2-3 worst teams in the league next year). The NFC East is weak, but the NFL North will be a tough test. We should feast on the AFC East, and it would be great if the Pats take a step back. Anything short of 4 AFC East wins would probably be disappointing. I think we have a real chance of making New Era Field a fortress next year with a manageable home schedule. Way Too Early Prediction: 11-5 Thoughts?
  10. What a terrible hire. This guy's track record on a number of positions is flat out terrible. It's 2018, and the Raiders are hiring an old school scout who doesn't believe in any analytics.
  11. Allen was very good today. He made a few bad throws, but for the most part was very good. He was decisive and his pass catchers made great plays. The devil's advocate in me will say that it was in a meaningless game where the Bills played extremely hard because their best player from the last 20 years announced his retirement, and their opposition had nothing to play for in a game where they were decimated by injuries with a coach who will be fired imminently and a QB who is going to be replaced. With that said, he looked great against the hand he was dealt and the Bills end on a severe high heading into the offseason. Allen still has a ton to work on and the Bills need to improve the pieces around him, but it should be a fun off season to say the least.
  12. Blake Bortles, EJ Manuel, Josh Freeman, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, etc, etc. Big, strong, mobile, big armed, bad quarterbacks.
  13. I thought Allen would be bad, and he's been the worst passer in the league among starting QBs. You're acting like he's outperformed what I thought he'd do, but he's been exactly as I expected which is why I'm so hard on him. You guys get so bent out of shape for me not giving the worst QB in the league a pass. It's so weird.
  14. Allen is the same guy now as he was at Wyoming. Read a scouting report. It's all the stuff you see him do on a weekly basis. Guys like Allen never work out. So far he's done zero to change my opinion. He's the worst passer in the league in most categories and many of you are convinced he's the guy. I simply don't get it. He's a good athlete and he tries hard, but he leaves way too much to be desired as a passer. If the team produces points and wins games I'll be happy, but we're not doing that.
  15. Jacksonville did it with an elite defense. Baltimore is 14th in scoring so I'm not sure what stats you're looking at. If we score 28 points per game and Allen is sub 90 in passer rating he can have another year, but there's no way that's going to happen.
  16. I don't buy this at all. Mahomes drops dimes that other QBs can't complete. His ability to change arm angel and operate out of structure while maintaining his accuracy is unbelievable. He is accurate to every part of the field and his receivers have excelled because he puts the ball in spots where they can catch it and run after the catch.
  17. What's mind boggling is anyone thinking the two aren't correlated. Passing efficiency almost always leads to more points on the board. Top 5 QBs in Passing Efficiency this year: 1. Drew Brees - 32.7 PPG 2. Pat Mahomes - 35.3 PPG 3. Russell Wilson - 26.7 PPG 4. Matt Ryan - 25.3 PPG 5. Phil Rivers - 27 PPG You can't expect the Bills to be in the top half of the league in scoring without a team QB Rating above 90...
  18. Cam Newton's completion percentage went up 10 points because he threw 123 passes at Christian McCaffrey this season and McCaffrey caught 87% of them. His accuracy didn't change at all. He just threw more passes to an elite pass catching running back. Also Cam Newton is a much better football player than Josh Allen. He was a transcendent player at Auburn who carried his team to an undefeated season with minimal NFL talent around him through an SEC schedule. If Newton is the only model Allen has to mimic we're probably in trouble considering how the NFL is constantly becoming more and more pass happy. He's not a train wreck. His running ability gives him a fairly high floor. However as a passer, he's not even remotely close to being average relative to other NFL starters, and if he wants to survive in this league he's going to have to figure out that side of the game fast. Getting his 150-200 times a year (runs, sacks, QB hits) is eventually going to take a toll and he'll need to figure out how to operate out of the pocket, which is currently his biggest weakness.
  19. My concern is currently based around the fact that Allen is the same guy now as he was in college. He makes wow throws, but misses easy ones. He has a huge arm, but he regularly misses wide open deep targets. He looks to run to quickly and doesn't read the field quickly. His accuracy and ball placement are suspect a lot of the time, and ultimately he struggles to complete more than half his throws on a weekly basis. Overall his efficiency as a passer is terrible, as it was in college. He needs to take a massive step forward next year. If his QB Rating isn't above 90 with a completion percentage around about 60% or higher, I'm moving on to someone else in 2020 when there should be a bunch of really good QBs in the draft.
  20. Goff and Allen are almost polar opposites in terms of pros and cons as prospects. Allen is the big, strong, raw prospect who wasn't a very good passer in college. Goff was the thin, lanky, polished passer who dominated the Pac-12. They're nothing alike as players.
  21. Giving the team the benefit of the doubt doesn't make much sense when you consider how highly they thought of Nate Peterman in the past, benching Tyrod so he could play and naming him the week 1 starter this year. Most rookie QBs don't get significantly better, so being young doesn't mean much. Over 50% of 1st round QBs bust, and when you take away the elite prospects who went #1 overall, and focus on the guys who go 2-32 overall, that bust rate balloons to over 70%. It's really hard to find a QB. Usually the guys who make it don't look like Josh Allen has looked so far, struggling with most aspects of throwing the football. Most guys who make it play really well early on, with only a few exceptions over the past 20 years.
  22. Exactly. He's at the bottom or very close to the bottom of every statistically category associated with QBs. When I watch him I question his accuracy. He misses easy throws and often makes things more difficult on his receiver than they need to be. When under pressure, he's not very good unless he's running around breaking contain of the pocket. He regularly misses deep balls to wide open receivers. All of this is backed up by this "study". As I've said all year; every QB has receivers who drop the ball, and every QB throws the ball away. The notion that Allen's completion percentage would be closer to other QBs when factoring in these throws was something that never made any sense. No matter how you slice it, he's one of the least accurate QBs in the league. Allen is currently a bad NFL quarterback. Hopefully he gets a heck of a lot better next year.
  23. Agreed. He can't get open against Man Coverage. Hard to call him a #2 guy when he does all his damage against zone coverage. One on one on the outside he's been useless all year. He has 50 catches because we don't have anyone else, but having 50 catches doesn't make him a #2 WR.
  24. He has numerous #1 WR traits and we desperately need a #1 WR. Seems obvious.
  25. No surprises here. Allen has always struggled with accuracy. He's exactly as advertised coming out of college and has miles to go before he'll be a successful franchise QB. Allen is a great athlete with an elite arm, but he's not a very good quarterback yet, and struggles as a passer relative to other NFL QBs. Hopefully they can add some weapons and he takes a big step as a passer next season.
