  1. Peterman is our best QB. He's shown he's in command of the offense, is accurate, and he gets the ball out on time. His arm is obviously lacking, but he does a good job attacking the middle of the field and we can game plan to attack that area off play action once Shady is on the field. It's when he throws to the boundary that he can get into trouble. I think McCarron is probably a step behind him. We haven't seen much of him but he's proven to be a somewhat capable NFL backup in the past. Allen is the 3rd guy IMO. His inexperience showed badly today. He held the ball too long, took unnecessary sacks when he could have got rid of the ball and ultimately looked very overwhelmed. Josh Allen was a massive project when we picked him. People might not want to hear it, but this is a guy who was a 2-3 year project who needed to learn how to lead an offense and consistently move the chains. He hasn't done that so far. His 4.7 YPA for the preseason is pathetic and today showed that his awareness still isn't where it needs to be. He held the ball too long and took sacks when he could have dumped the ball incomplete. Stash him on the bench for as long as possible. He needs to work on a lot of things before he's ready to play meaningful regular season games yet.
  2. Josh Allen is the 3rd best QB on this roster right now. He needs to hold a clip board and learn the position this season. Peterman should start, and McCarron should be his backup. If another starter, or a backup get injured early in the season, I'd try to trade McCarron and promote Allen to primary backup at the end of September/early October.
  3. Why is Allen not being pulled off the field to be evaluated for a concussion? Edit: that didn't look good at all.
  4. He's pulled the ball down and taken sacks when he could have thrown the ball into the dirt at least 3 times.
  5. He knows he's going to get sacked. 100% of the time I'd take an incomplete pass over a sack that results in a loss of 8 to 10 yards. If you're suggesting he doesn't know he's going to get sacked, then we have a huge problem on our hands because the pressure has been right in his face.
  6. Agreed. Our supporting cast is going to be horrible all year. Without McCoy this is arguably the worst offense in the NFL on paper. But he hasn't been decisive with the ball. He's taken his drop, and not pulled the trigger several times. At least 3 sacks have been a result of him deciding to not throw the ball. I'm not suggesting guys are open, but good QBs know how to not take a sack. Some of those sacks he needs to throw the ball at a receivers feet. I get that there's been constant pressure, but at a couple of those sacks could have been avoided if he'd just got rid of the ball and thrown it incomplete.
  7. He's looked like a deer in the headlights. Isn't feeling pressure, is taking unnecessary sacks, and hasn't done anything to move the offense. This has been a horrible performance. The penalties have obviously hurt, but don't try to spin this. If this was McCarron or Peterman people would be asking for them to be cut.
  8. Allen has looked horrible. He's been a complete deer in the headlights today.
  9. For real? Was he already released? If they let a guy with a history of mental health issues, and multiple major incidents over the past few months, back into the public less than 48 hours after he threatened people and attempted to take his deceased father's head then that's a major breakdown with the courts.
  10. Absolutely ridiculous. Incognito is a ticking time bomb and he can legally drive around with a truck full of guns. Ming boggling.
  11. The issue with CTE isn't specifically concussions. The issue is that some players, like Richie Incognito and other linemen, literally bash heads with their opposition on every single play. The result isn't a concussion, but it still has an impact on the brain which moves inside the skull. When it pushes against the skull play after play after play, the result over time can be severe CTE.
  12. Probably something like this: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjStrzq0f7cAhWr44MKHa7RBRMQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FChronic_traumatic_encephalopathy&psig=AOvVaw2yIsOK3EQHaXIkr4wVEZpl&ust=1534957876291134
  13. Seems inevitable that he's going to cause himself major harm. I'm obviously no expert, but you have to suspect that a severe case of CTE is involved here. Years of bashing heads along the offensive line seems to have taken its toll. It's hard to keep supporting the NFL when so many lives are ruined playing the game.
  14. I'm fairly certain that was two years later while he was competing against Tyrod and Cassel. As a rookie he played quite well in pre season and early into the regular season before he hurt his knee. I think that all happened later on. At the beginning EJ looked quite competent. All of this is why I'm being cautious with Allen. As I've mentioned, I want to wait and see how he looks once the opposition has watched film on him and are actually trying to stop him.
  15. I felt EJ looked quite good his first preseason (when healthy) and his first four games before getting injured. His poise is what led to a couple comebacks early as a rookie, but eventually defenses figured him out, he never adjusted and the wheels fell off.
  16. 100%. The throw in game 1 was one he and about 2 other guys can make (Rodgers and Stafford?). The throw in game 2 was one he and about 2 other guys can make (Big Ben and Newton?). Very impressive.
  17. I'm not jumping to these conclusions. You're talking about rookie QBs who have all thrown 20-30 passes against defenses that haven't planned on how to stop any of them. Things will be a lot different in the regular season.
  18. Definitely. The arm and willingness to attack the defense are definitely there. I'm more cautious simply because it's preseason and no one is actually game planning to stop what he does well and attack what he struggles with. As with every rookie, the key will be watching how he adapts over the next 6 weeks as the opposition gets more film of him. Even though I didn't think he'd be successful when we picked him, he's obviously an easy guy to root for.
  19. Agreed. He's been an excellent hire thus far. He needs to work on some of his situational game management, but his ability to have the team ready to play and make in game adjustments has been quite good so far.
  20. He's looked a little better than I expected. Mostly the way he carries himself. The arm is bigger than I thought. It honestly looks like he could throw a football through a brick wall. His mobility has been as advertised. His command of the huddle has been impressive and he hangs in the pocket pretty well. The flip side is that the yards per attempt has been pathetic. The easy fix is completing a deep ball or two. I also worry about the vanilla defenses he's faced and take everything he's doing with a grain of salt. No one is game planning against him yet. I've been pleasantly surprised mostly with his poise in the pocket but there's still plenty of work to be done. EJ Manuel showed all the same stuff when he was a rookie so I'm being cautious.
  21. The Bengals will be a good test. Hopefully he plays well because it looks like they're not going to be able to keep him on the bench for the start of the season.
  22. Considering first round QBs bust more than 50% of the time plenty of bad QBs have wound up picked in the top 10 by accident. There have been plenty of 1st round QBs with accuracy problems picked over past 20 years. All of them have been busts. I hope Allen becomes a great player, I just don't think it's going to happen. History pretty clearly isn't on his side.
  23. The accuracy issues are from reading several in depth reports that analyzed his ball placement. I'd intended for the two to be separate things. I agree with you that raw completion percentage and accuracy aren't the exact same thing, ie EJ Manuel has terrible accuracy despite completing a very high percentage of his passes at FSU. Where we picked Allen has no bearing on whether it was a good decision. Plenty of QBs have been picked in the top 10 who were complete busts. Some had accuracy problems and some had other issues. If I remember correctly, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith and Jake Locker were all top 10 guys with sub 57% completions who were all complete busts.
