  1. Believe it or not, there were other NFL owners that were/are far worse than Wilson. Think Wilson was cheap? Cardinals owner Bill Bidwell used to sit in on each and every player's contract negotiations. He was also the team's de facto general manager. From 1960 thru 1987 the Cards only won the division 2x and made the playoffs 3x while losing in the first round each time. I feel bad for each player on those teams as they dwelt in such mediocrity for so many years. Bidwell moved the team from St Louis to Phoenix, Arizona because of his ineptitude in building a winning team and fans stopped attending. Thank the lord for Cards fans that Bidwell left sons to inherit his team and they changed everything around. They did finally make it to an SB in 2008. Another bad owner in my view was Colts owner Robert Irsay. In 1972 Rams owner Carroll Rosenbloom traded the Colts to Robert Irsay. After the 72 season, the Colts traded star QB Johnny Unitas to the Chargers. The star QB after Unitas was QB Bert Jones and as the story goes Colts owner Robert Irsay gave Jones a new house in Baltimore as part of his signing deal and when the Colts released Jones they took back the house as it seems that Jones didn't read the fine print in his contract. Irsay did this same thing to other players like giving a car as a signing bonus to an RB and then repossessing it after the player was released. The real part comes in when a young Stanford QB John Elway heard that his favorite NFL QB was kicked out of his own house by Robert Irsay... this made Elway furious. Some reports say that it was Colts head coach Frank Kush was the actual reason as to why Elway refused to sign with the Colts. It was the former and the Colts lost out on a HoF QB because the owner was such a dick. From 1978 to 1983 the Colts were one of the worst teams in NFL history and in one game against Buffalo the Colts offense did not cross the 50-yard line all game. The team was so bad they couldn't sell season tickets so the owner was forced to move the team. Let's also not forget that after the 1983 season the packing trucks moved the team out of Baltimore in the middle of the night in a move to Indianapolis. Art Modell is probably the most hated NFL owner ever after moving the beloved Cleveland Browns to Baltimore to become the Baltimore Ravens. Because his team was losing money Modell was forced to move the team or sell it and later on he was forced to sell it anyway. ask any Browns fan what they think of Modell. 1996 to 1998 Cleveland didn't have an NFL team. In my opening sentence, I said "are" because the Cowboys owner is also the teams GM and if not for his sons being involved in the team and talking him out of drafting Johnny Manziel among other stupid moves. Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had a falling out after the super bowl years and Jones thinks he was the one that built those super bowl teams and hence the reason the owner is the GM. The Boys have been in the playoffs 9x times since their last super bowl win in 1995 and yet haven't won one of those playoff games. The owner thinks he is the smartest GM in the league. Dallas might not ever return to a super bowl until the owner steps away and hires a real NFL GM. JMO
  2. Ralph Wilson was notoriously cantankerous and frugal throughout his entire ownership of the Buffalo Bills. Make no mistake Wilson would have moved the team if he were put in such a position that he might be forced to sell all or part of the team. He would have moved it. In the late 1970's the team wasn't winning and fans weren't attending. The team was forced to have preseason games in other cities because Bills fans wouldn't attend those home preseason games in Buffalo. Ralph Wilson was getting desperate because he knew if he didn't sell more seats he would be forced to sell all or part of the team...or move it. Instead, he hired Chuck Knox and made him one of the highest paid head coaches in the league. Which was something he would have otherwise not done! Wilson didn't do this because he wanted a winner, he did it because he was forced to do it. Knox was so good that he was able to build a winning team despite the moron in Bills GM Stew Barber. Knox did his own drafting and brought in Norm Pollom his player personnel director he had with the Rams. ( BTW, it was Pollom who recommended the Bills hire Bill Polian) This same situation developed a few years later after Knox left for Seattle because Wilson refused to give him a raise. Which he should have done considering the transformation the man had on the city of Buffalo and the team. In 1984-85 After back to back 2-14 seasons and a stadium almost empty and the fans that did attend wore bags on their heads. Bill Polian needed to talk Wilson into making QB Jim Kelly the highest paid QB in the league and also talked him into stadium improvements. What Bills fans don't know is that while paying the very least amount of dollars he could on coaches and GM's. Wilson collected fine art worth millions and had other expensive hobbies like racing horses. The man might have been wealthy but he still kept himself as team president and basically micromanaged every head coach by phone from Detroit. Kinda why most good NFL head coaches wouldn't think of taking the head coaching job in Buffalo. But yeah, in his later years he would have not even thought of moving the team and as long as the team made a healthy profit as there was no reason. Makes one think as to why the marketing guy was the GM for a time.
  3. The Bills might love only one QB in Darnold or Allen and if Cleveland takes him with the #1 they wasted all those picks moving up. Like Denver stated it makes more sense to see how the draft unfolds before giving up so many picks in a very talented draft.
  4. I agree it was Rex who wanted to bring in Tyrod Taylor and not the GM. Tyrod did get us into the playoffs albeit with a big helping hand from lady luck. Rex also vouched for LG Richie Incognito when no other team wanted him and the guy has been an all-pro every year. His presence helps both the LT and OC along that line. OTOH, Rex did F up that top 5 defense. On that note, I think I trust his opinion more on offensive players then on the defensive side.
  5. What a lot of Bills fans that are in this trade up frenzy don't get is there are some later round QB's that teams like the Patriots, Steelers are interested in to develop. The odds are that a 1st round QB making it in the NFL is at 38% so that means out of five guys only two probably make it...which two? Darnold, Rosen? Mayfield, Allen? I'll be honest here are as I recall so much hype over RG3 and others. Now, look at them. I left off some later round picks. 2010, #1 Sam Bradford, #25 Tim Tebow, #78 Jimmy Clausen, #85 Colt McCoy 2011, #1 Cam Newton, #8 Jake Locker, #12 Christian Ponder, #35 Andy Dalton, #36 Colin Kaepernick, #74 Ryan Mallett 2012, #1 Andrew Luck, #2 RG3, #8, Ryan Tannehill, #22 Brandon Weedon, #57 Brock Osweiler, #75, Russell Wilson, #88 Nick Foles, #102 Kirk Cousins 2013, #16 EJ Manuel, #39 Geno Smith, #73 Mike Glennon, #98 Matt Barkley, #110 Ryan Nassib 2014, #3 Blake Bortles, #22 Johnny Manziel, #32 Teddy Bridgewater, #36 Derek Carr, #62 Jimmy Garroppolo, #135 Tom Savage, #163 Aaron Murry, #164 AJ McCarron 2015, #1 Jamis Winston, #2 Marcus Mariota, #75 Garrett Grayson, #103 Bryce Petty, #147 Brett Hundley 2016, #1 Jerod Goff, #2 Carson Wentz, #26 Paxton Lynch, #51 Christian Hackenberg, #91 Jacoby Brissett, #93 Cody Kessler, #100 Connor Cook, # 135 Dak Prescott, #139 Cardale Jones. #162 Kevin Hogan. 2017, #2 Mitch Turbisky, #10 Patrick Mahomes, #12 Deshaun Watson, #52 Deshone Kizer, #87 Davis Webb, #104 CJ Beathard. 14 or so out of 50+ somethings. Bradford might have been a franchise QB at some point in his career. 10 seasons, 160 games and he is only played in 80 with a career record of 34-45-1 and he has made over 110 Million in doing so. Anyway, the point here is to look at 2012-2014 and if you have scouts that know what they are doing you can find quality QBs later than just the top five picks.
  6. Probably because he is a full grade below Darnold and just about equal to Allen, Mayfield who both are said to have a higher upside. Rosen does have his share of issues, personality, playboy type with a hot tub in his dorm room. Recall the last Playboy type in Matt Leinart? Durability issues and can't escape the pocket well. When he does move out of the pocket his accuracy drops like crazy. What really stands out is that he thinks he is smarter than his coaches and with UCLA he probably was...
  7. This was hilarious. I doubt the Bills will even give this kid a second look as they want to move away from these dual-threat QB's. The Panthers just fired their OC in an effort to help Cam Newton become more of a pocket passer. RG3 couldn't throw from the pocket because he developed the yips. Colin Kaepernick can kneel all he wants and if he were worth a damn as a pocket passer every team in the NFL would want him. Bills fans have short memories as Michael Vick was working on becoming a better pocket passer towards the end of his career because that's whats needed in the NFL! I think this FO would rather draft Luke Faulk, Mike White or anyone that isn't a dual-threat QB.
  8. I think ALL the QB needy teams are looking at Sam Darnold who is a full grade above every other QB in this year's draft. And if he goes first in the first pick then everything changes with the Giants, Jets. I think the Giants are sitting there looking at Darnold too and should the Browns take him they will go Chubb to replace JPP. I'm not so sure that the Jets want a QB other than Darnold and if he isn't available then perhaps they go, RB Saquon Barkley. #1) Darnold #2) Chubb #3) Barkley #4) Fitzpatrick #5) Allen, Rosen or Mayfield to Denver. Buffalo could move up to take whoever is left @ #6 thru #10 to get ahead of Miami. JMO
  9. #1) I think the draft will unfold with Darnold as the #1 player off the board to Cleveland. #20 NY Giants since trading JPP wants a pass rusher in Chubb. #3) The NY Jets get so excited they fall six times running to the podium to select RB Sequon Barkley. #4) Cleveland is pissed they missed Barkley so they go CB in Minkah Fitzpatrick #5) The Broncos have their choice of Rosen, Mayfield, Allen and they go Rosen. #6) Indy wanted Chubb and since he didn't fall to them they trade out to Buffalo who selects either Mayfield or Allen. Or they stay put and draft OG Quinton Nelson to protect Luck. Same, the kid is a winner and that same attitude we have seen before.
  10. C'mon Kirby. If the guy was another Tom Brady most every Bills fan would worship him. I think a reason as to why a lot of Bill fans didn't like him was because he was a somewhat limited NFL QB...nothing more. Yes, there will always be those few like our current nation's leader. Hopefully, they all get a bit older and die off.
  11. Everyone talks about having a franchise LT and yet the opposing defense can move their best rushers over the weakest link, which was Mills. Things might have gone differently had Glenn not been hurt most of the season. BTW, benching Tyrod might have been the best thing for him as he worked extra hard to keep that starting job after that.
  12. Take the sack and don't throw it up for grabs is my thought. I'm not gonna blame the line as much as I blame the QB and OC. The OC should take most of the heat for allowing that rookie QB to even throw as much as he did, seriously! That lone TD in the first half was all McCoy. I know it was only 14 attempts and 10 too many. Both the RT & RG positions have been a liability on this team for years and years. I think they drafted Dawkins to fix that issue as the OG should play better with a better OT next to him and vice versa. I think Incognito's play elevated Glenn's play too. Glenn getting a season-long injury made him a liability at his pay grade. Mills should be gone this year...hopefully...the team upgrades that right side both RT, RG for whatever QB is starting
  13. While I highly doubt Roquan Smith will be there at the 12 spot what most fans forget while thinking about one of those top QBs and trading the farm for one. The BIlls could very well move up to the #7 spot after all the top four QB's are gone and select Smith there. Kinda like Doug Whaley should have done when thinking about Sammy Watkins and instead should have taken Mike Evans or Khalil Mack. The Bills should still have enough ammo in picks to trade up again should they want a QB or WR as the Steelers have been sniffing around Mason Rudolph and I don't think they will wait until the 28th pick to grab him. I honestly don't care who this regime drafts as long as they become quality starters for a few years. Must be bad karma or something to finally make the playoffs and yet want to select one of the top QB's in a draft they should see as many as six QBs be drafted in the first round. Yet they might not be able to get one of the top four.
  14. When you think about players like Derek Carr, Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott you have to think these people who grade these players really have no clue a lot of the time. I see Mason Rudolph 6'5'', 235 lbs and his body of work as being very close to Baker Mayfield and the kid is as big as Josh Allen only he doesn't have Allen's arm. Rudolph also doesn't have Allen's ability to shed sackers or easily escape the pocket. Unlike Allen who only played two seasons at Wyoming with a 56% comp %, Rudolph played four seasons at OSU going from 57% comp% to 65%. It also makes me wonder why the entire Pittsburgh Steeler front office and coaching staff have been hovering around this kid at every turn, combine and pro day.
  15. While I see Zierlein's name on each of the drafts prospects rankings. I have great difficulty in thinking that this man alone arbitrarily wrote up hundreds (over 500)of player profiles and gave them all grades all by himself. I have read that he talks with NFL teams scouts and executives but still, this seems like an enormous task for one individual who was never a college/NFL scout. The NFL does have over fifty writers, draft analysts, ex-NFL scouts working for them and I want to think they all contribute to helping him compile his scouting reports. I could be wrong though and it's just one guy who used to be a radio talk show host in Houston.
  16. I wonder if he has a beamer
  17. The ceiling I agree with and not the floor as this is a good kid and not a druggie or a temperamental jerk like Ryan Leaf. His fellow players love him and they follow him unlike other QBs in this year's draft where his teammates can't stand him. Watch the senior bowl highlights.
  18. "If Allen wants to be a top 5 or top 10 type pick, he has to improve his overall game by developing his footwork and accuracy and decision-making. It’s a fact that quarterbacks who have accuracy problems in college don’t become accurate as NFL passers. Because of his lack of college experience, he is still a work in progress. Yes, there is loads of talent to work with, but that talent needs to be refined. It’s up to him to make those improvements in his game." http://www.profootballweekly.com/2017/05/13/greg-gabriel-breaking-down-wyoming-qb-josh-allen/a3yfeoe/ Like I said in an earlier post he is working on his footwork. I would hate it if he became a NY Jet. Although they would probably ruin him there is still a chance he overcomes their inability to coach and becomes another Big Ben.
  19. Brian Billick was on NFL network and stated he had a kid like Allen who had a bad accuracy problem in Kyle Boller and he thought they could fix it. They couldn't. The difference being that Boller played four years at Cal with a comp% of 38.6 his first year, 46.7 his second, 49.3 his third and finally 53.4 his senior season. That's four years of college. His NFL career comp% was at 56.7. Cal must have been desperate for a QB with completion percentages like those as those percentages are truly pathetic. Josh Allen has only played two seasons at Wyoming with some talent around in his first season and every player that touched the ball besides Allen was gone for the 2017 season and although his completion percentage stayed at 56%, 56.3 to be exact. There are several reasons as to why his comp% didn't improve in 2017. Mike Mayock recently stated he thinks Allen will be a top-five pick and I agree. Denver at the latest with the 6th pick. Most scouts will tell you that accuracy has so much to do with footwork and Allen even admitted his footwork in college was bad. He has since been working with Jordan Palmer(Carson's brother) who is a QB trainer and his footwork has improved as has his accuracy which he showed off at his pro day. Time will certainly tell whether this kid will be another Kyle Boller or Aaron Rodgers, Big Ben and I think it's the latter.
  20. I think the Jets main plan is to draft Sam Darnold and if he isn't there I think they go RB Saquon Barkley. This makes so much more sense as they did sign Teddy Bridgewater who could be their long-term QB if he ever returns to 100% healthy. I love Josh Allen and think he would be a perfect fit in Buffalo. A big, strong blue-collar type who played in the snow and cold of Wyoming. His toughness reminds me of Jim Kelly.
  21. That was the scheme under Dennison and now it's changing to Erhardt-Perkins scheme which is what the Patriots run and a big reason as to why Deball is the new OC. He worked for the Patriots for a lot of years as WR, TE assistant coach and was the Alabama OC last year. This was one of the reasons as to why they moved on from Tyrod and now want more of a pocket passer QB vs an RPO QB. Just some food for thought here. UCLA QB Josh Rosen ran a version of a WCO offense and that is kinda why I don't believe all the hype around the Bills wanting him.
  22. Looking back on the last thirty years of the draft, it turns out that 39% of QBs taken in the first round became “elite” QBs (4,000 season passing yards, 60% completion percentage, a certain “put-the-team-on-my-back”-itude) while 39% become “busts”; the remaining 22% become middle-of-the-pack players. In fact, the first pick is the best time to take a QB: nine out of the fifteen QBs selected first overall in the past thirty years have become elite while only two have turned into busts. https://harvardsportsanalysis.wordpress.com/2011/05/31/drafting-an-nfl-qb/ Every NFL that doesn't have a franchise QB now wants their Carson Wentz. The problem is the draft is not an exact science and it's a gamble. The only guy I'd move up to #2 to gamble on is Sam Darnold. If he is gone I'd have to hope that one of the top four drops out of the first six picks for the next gamble to move up to #7. If that doesn't happen it looks like Mason Rudolph is the man at 22. That is if the Steelers don't move up to draft him before Buffalo.
  23. Here is what I said, Which was kinda why I highlighted each of those eventual star NFL players first season in college. Not only did they improve their completion percentage after their first year. They also improved their college average completion percentage to the NFL completion percentage. Brett Favre was at 40.7% completion percentage in his first year at So Miss and averaged a 52.4 completion percentage in college. He improved over his first season and he then averaged over his NFL career a 62.0 percentage which was an improvement from his College days. Brett Favre, @ Southern Miss, First season 40.7-second season 55.8-third season 54.1- fourth season 55.4. Then in the NFL went right to 64.1 and averaged 62.0 over his career. Two seasons of college football is really not enough collected data to be 100% positive that a player won't improve as these are young boys who are developing into mature grown men. When Allen first got to Wyoming he was this scrawny kid who grew into that big frame. I gave reasons as to why Josh Allen might not have improved his accuracy due to a team filled with rookies in his second year vs a veteran team in his first year. He was also in a pro-style offense which features a deeper passing scheme which is tougher on young players vs what someone like Josh Rosen ran at UCLA which was a version of a west coast offense which featured shorter passes. Players like Darnold and Rosen also had better teams around them with better coaching, and Rosen had a greater receiver talent in a kid like Lasley who had 1264 yards receiving. Allen has already shown the NFL scouts he has improved his accuracy from what he showed in his senior bowl performance and hence the reason as to why he has moved up into the top one or two QBs in this years draft class. Let's also not forget that Allen was the MVP of the bowl game that Wyoming played in against Central Michigan going 11 of 19 for 154 yards, 3 TDs with a rating of 178.1. Do I know for 100% that Allen's completion percentage from 56.2 in college will improve to 60% plus, NO! Do I think it will, YES! Hopefully, he gets drafted by a team that will allow him to sit for a bit and develop
  24. That article was dated Feb 24th before the combine. When almost the entire teams coaching staff and FO brass show up at a prospects pro day I think you can safely say there is smoke there. The kid is too good to last until the second round as his grade isn't that far away from the top 5 QB's. Darnold 7.0, Rosen 6.1. Mayfield and Allen 6.0, Jackson 5.9 and Rudolph 5.6.
