At this point I just want to see Allen survive the season... with no more running as these games are no longer important. Just work on his pocket presence and if the team gets behind in points don't leave Allen out there to dry by going pass happy all game. Protecting this franchise QB is the most important thing this team should focus on at this time. While Buffalo is still alive at 4-8, the realistic view is they have the Jets, Lions home, @ NE and home against Miami. Doubtful 8-8 gets a playoff spot. More then likely the Bills finish 7-9. JMO

The Best Thing about the Dolphins Game.

No question as the kid is amazing with a burning desire to win. A one man team with one good receiver and one good linemen. Now imagine what he will do with a solid offensive line and receiver corps. -
Allen's Last Pass (12/2): Bad Pass or Drop?
Nihilarian replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The announcer stated it looked like he slipped going for the catch...should have been caught! -
Good lord, thank you. Bills fans seem to be myopic of sorts in that the team has been so devoid of scoring so that when the team finally does make some plays and score they seem oblivious to all else. The Bills play calling worked for three out of ten series and managed to beat two teams on downward spirals that have worse records at 3-8. So Bills fans seem deliriously happy with the OC and blame the lack of talent for past losses. Good to great coaches make the best out of the talent on hand and do not force their players into attempting to make their scheme work, regardless of the situation. Especially when you have such inexperienced young QBs who don't know what they are doing. I can't even imagine what the last two games would have been like had the Bills not taken the lead or had the Jets, Jags a semi competent QB behind center. The Bills play some bad teams ahead 5-6 Miami, home against 3-8 Jets again, Home against the 4-7 Detroit Lions. The 8-3 New England Patriots are the only team the Bills play down the stretch with a winning record and its @ NE. The last game is at home against the Dolphins. Four out of five of those games have somewhat competent QBs so those wins won't be as easy as the Jets, Jags. Kinda funny Bortles was benched and Hackett was fired after that loss to Buffalo. The end result could be as good as 8-8 or even 9-7 should the Bills manage to get McCoy over 20 touches per game, 100 plus yards in each of those games. This will help take the load off the rookie QB. The Bills defense is good enough that with help from the Buffalo run game they could win the rest of their games.

What my problem with Bills OC Daboll is, and the Bills QB coach is that both are very inexperienced in coaching rookie/inexperienced QBs. A QB coach who was never previously a QB coach but a WR assistant coach. How exactly that helps those two very inexperienced QBs at the start of the season with no veteran QB on the roster is a wonder to me. Daboll has been calling offensive plays from day one like he has experienced veteran QBs behind center! What they weren't, were two QBs who knew how to read a defense and set protections. They weren't able to find the open receiver quickly and get the ball to them before the pass rush can get to them. This is why Barkley looked so good and Peterman, Allen not so much. Those first two games the Bills defense started slowly and allowed the team to get behind in points. What happened then... like so many other games the team got behind in... was a very pass happy offense that nearly got those inexperienced QBs killed. Lets not forget that this team is still 4-7 and not the other way around. 7 losses and 5 of them blowouts. The run game has been dominate at times usually when the team has the lead, Vikings game 38 rushes for 128 yards, 2 TDs. Titans 43 rushes for 144 yards, 1 TD. Jets game 46 rushes for 212 yards, 2 TDs. Those numbers rushing the ball look pretty darn good to me and two those three defenses aren't that bad, Vikes #3, Tenn #10. So it goes to prove a point that the talent on the line isn't historically bad. With Barkley at QB Jones had 93 yards, Foster had 105 so the receivers aren't historically bad either. When you have a play caller calling complex run plays with not so great players on the line it doesn't always go so well. Except for the times when the team had the lead the OC called far more pass plays then run plays to boot. When you have a play caller calling mid to deep pass patterns with some very inexperienced QBs...especially when the team gets behind in points so those young QBs are forced to carry the entire offense it doesn't always go so well. This last game against the Jags it was rookie QB Josh Allen with 99 yards rushing, 1 rushing TD who made some big plays. That deep bomb to Foster for a TD was also a big play by Allen as he was swarmed by three Jags defenders milliseconds after releasing that ball. While I do give credit to Daboll for calling that second series which resulted in five plays for a untouched TD run by McKenzie, which was brilliant. The Bills still had seven series which resulted in punts. I want to see a whole lot more of those second series type plays AND see the team not forget the run game and go pass happy when they get behind in points before I start heaping praise on the Bills offensive coaches.

My stance has softened a bit too. Although... The thing is, this team looks like two different animals if they get behind in points vs getting a lead in a game. Against the Vikings, Titans, Jets and Jags the bills got the lead, held on and won those games. The other games Ravens, Chargers, Packers, Texans, Colts, Patriots, Bears the got behind in points from the start and never caught up while losing those games. Even against the Patriots in which they held a 3 point lead for 3 quarters and the Bills just couldn't get anything going offensively. I read here that the players on offense are historically bad, and yet when they get the lead those offensive players look pretty good at times. Bills fans saying its the QB until Barkley comes in and lights up a pretty good Jets defense. Bills fans saying its the offensive line and yet when they get the lead the sacks go down and the run game does better. Bills fans saying the receiver corps is bad and yet they looked pretty good with Barkley throwing to them. This last game Josh Allen made some big plays because of his talent, that throw to Foster just before he is engulfed by three Jag defenders. That 14 yard TD run by Allen and he would have had over 100 yards rushing if he didn't kneel it down at the end of the game for -2 yards. The play calling in that Jags game looked good for the first quarter and fell off after that until the Allen run in the 4th. That was against the #5 defense so I'm not gonna complain too much. I'd just like to see more of that 1st touchdown series all game long and not just two or three series a game. The Bills did punt 7 times in that game. I also want to see this team win a game when they get behind in points and then not go into a panic passing mode to catch up. Run the normal game plan, move the chains and run the ball...score some points.

A Few Thoughts about the Jags Game, In no particular order
Nihilarian replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree to a point as that first quarter was downright amazing with that 75 yard drive and a perfect run to the end zone to cap it off. The run blocking by the WRs on that TD run was phenomenal as both Zay Jones and Logan Thomas put their guys on the ground and McKenzie went in untouched. It started with a screen pass to McCoy for 7 yards and then a run by McCoy again for a 1st down. Then a 32 yard pass to KB along with a PF face mask by Ramsey on KB. Then a 1st down pass to Croom for 11 yards. That quick handoff to McKenzie in motion was brilliant and caught that Jags defense so unaware. The next series with that Allen first down run and then that 75 yard bomb to Foster... this against an elite Jags secondary and a top 5 defensive unit. We didn't see many big plays by the Bills offense after that first quarter save for Allen's 14 yard TD run in the 4th. Again, this was against a very, very good Jags defense and gotta love how Allen played in this game. Hopefully we see more of that type of first quarter offensive play in the next five games. -

Sounds like a snip from the Goonies movie. Gotta love it when they win and Allen looks like the franchise guy is here. -

Just think, good thing the Bills kept Sammy Watkins and paid him those big dollars....oh wait! Watkins, 1 catch for 4 yards in the highest scoring game of the season 54-51. -
TNF in the PNW: Green Bay @ Seattle
Nihilarian replied to whatdrought's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It really is crazytown that the Packers only have one more win then the Buffalo Bills...they have Aaron Rodgers at QB! 17 TDs, 1 INT They lost to Oakland...how? They lost to the Lions. They beat Chicago... Their defense is not that bad, their offense is top ten. Top 6 QB in passing. 27th in rushing attempts and yet #1 in yards per attempt. The thing I've noticed in attempting comebacks at the end of the game Rodgers seems to get sacked a lot. 7 players on IR and four are out. I would put it on his O line and lack of running the ball more often. -
McDermott isn't going anywhere....
Nihilarian replied to TwistofFate's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Talk about Nutty? Where do you get off in thinking that you know what these owners are thinking? If anyone is fantasizing here it's you! The only poster speaking in code is you...which is code for being such a defender of the coaches that you delude yourself into thinking that you know what others are thinking. Both McD and Beane have stated that this wasn't supposed to be a rebuild year! I have links for this and you keep stating the opposite and yet are presupposing at this because the season went south. You have no actual facts and just suppose that is what was supposed to happen because of the 3-7 season. When the Buffalo Bills got the lead over the Jets this last game you didn't see McD pull any players or sit anyone. Because that is what would have happened if they actually wanted to tank! They got the lead and worked it just like they would have done in each and every game if they could have! They have wanted to win each and every game all season and it went south due to their incompetence. I can tell you this. If Beane and McD knew then (2018 draft)what they know now, they would have altered their draft plans and drafted a center to replace Woods in the 2018 NFL draft. They might have found the money to bring in a quality replacement for Incognito and they sure as hell would have brought in a veteran QB from day one if they had the insight to know how bad Peterman would be. Like I said, coaching incompetence. Look at all the mistakes with the different WRs they keep brining in, signing and then letting go. I honestly like McD and think he is a good HC to a point. He simply doesn't know jack about the offensive side of the ball and it looks like Beane might have some issues too. I highly doubt any other NFL experienced quality GM/HC would have gone into this season the way this GM/HC went into the season with those scrubs on the offensive line, no veteran QB. Especially knowing that they are protecting a very inexperienced QB and a rookie QB. This is what happens when you have a rookie GM and 2nd year HC still learning their jobs. Lastly, when the team gets blownout in half their games like this team did this season...the defense doesn't look so excellent to my eyes. P.S. My take on the Pegula's is that they really want a winning NFL team in Buffalo and this 3-7 season with all these blowout losses could be having a very disparaging effect. The next six games could be very important in determining what happens at the end of the season for this regime. My opinion! I already know yours... deluded nutty code talker. -
Is No. 1 Ranking Legit or a Mirage?
Nihilarian replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly! Lies, damned lies and statistics. Fans love to roll around in the stats like they mean everything. My eyes tell me a different story. Game one, blowout loss 3-47 and that Bills defense started so slowly that mediocre Ravens offense scored 3 rushing TDs, 3 passing TDs. Bills QBs sacked 6 times. Game two, 20-31 loss to the Chargers and it really wasn't that close as the Bolts went up 28-6 at the half. Bills QBs sacked 5 times. Game three, 27-6 reverse blowout win because the Bills got the lead and capitalized on it all game Bills up 27-0 at the half. Vikes QBs sacked 4 times. Game four, 22-0 blowout by the Pack. They get the lead and the Bills can't run(16 rushes for 58 yards)Can't throw and Bills QBs sacked 7 times. Game five, 13-12 win over Tenn as the Bills get the lead and hold it all game rushing 43 times for 144 yards, 1 TD. Game six, 13-20 loss. The Bills defense started slowly again. Still, If Allen doesn't get injured this might be a win. Peterman 2 picks. Bills sacked Houston QB 7 times! Game seven, 37-5 blowout loss to the 2-5 Colts. Bills D stunk against the run allowing 37 rushes for 220 yards, allowed Luck to have his way with 4 TD passes. 0 sacks on Luck Game eight, 25-6 loss as the Bills defense kept it close for 3 QTRs. Bills went pass happy, only rushing for 19 times, 46 yards. Game nine, 41-9 blowout loss to the Bears. Bills D didn't allow a score in the first QTR. Fumble, Then Peterman throwing 3 picks. Bills 4 turnovers/ Game ten, Bills win 41-10 Blowout the Jets. Bills pounding the rock 46 times for 212 yards, 2 TDs. Bills get the lead and capitalized on it. When the Bills lose they get behind in points and go pass happy while forgetting about the run game and more importantly the best player on offense in Shady McCoy. The defense is on the field all game and have been blown out in 5 of 10 games. Sorry, my eyes tell me that good defenses don't allow such disparaging blowouts so many times in a season When the Bills win they sorta look like the 2001-2010 Peyton Manning Colts when they would get an early lead and then let loose their pass rush. This also allows the Bills run game to work because the Bills OC actually starts running the ball more. When it rains it pours and when the Bills get the lead in games so much is different. The defense in the wins look really great and conversely in losses they look really bad at times. This years Bills defense might actually be a top 5 defense if they focused on running the ball even when they get behind in points. It would also help those young inexperienced QBs and the older, still learning the playbook QBs. The Bills OC simplified the offense, ran the ball and dominated a pretty good Jets defense. -
Derek Anderson Good for Josh Allen?
Nihilarian replied to Miracle Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not overblown. EJ stated he learned more from watching Kyle Orton then he did from the Bills OC, QB coach. Watching him prepare for a game, film study and what to watch for in pre snap reads, reading that defense and then talking to him after each series. Understanding what's happening on each play. Not having a veteran QB on the roster with a rookie QB and a second year QB who had only two game starts is basically unheard of in the NFL. These young, inexperienced QB s needed help in so many areas and that Veteran QB like Derek Anderson helps more then most understand. He was brought into Buffalo knowing he wasn't going to start and he didn't want to. His sole job was to help mentor the young QBs and he was okay with that. Anderson was in a similar role at Carolina and help mentor Cam Newton greatly, so this FO trusted him.
