Say What You Want About Our Weaknesses
maryland-bills-fan replied to BringBackFlutie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We seen to be using 5-6 nominal defensive linemen to get hands up in all the passing lanes, rather than all out blitzes or dense cover zones. We give up some big plays but cause some big turnovers. -

Why Bills Will Circle Eagles Wagon

The Philly papers are getting to Reid about his lack of game planning. They imply that he has been coach so long that he just got tired of it and is out of ideas. With some limitations because of young and rookie players, he will be even less capable of changing things up. -
cf: http://www.gbnreport.com/index.htm from the great blue north draft report "Colts lose top picks … Already struggling at 0-4 with star QB Peyton Manning sidelined, Indianapolis likely have lost rookie OT Ben Ijalana, the Colts’ second round pick at the 2011 draft, for the remainder of the season after he reportedly tore an ACL in Monday night‘s loss in Tampa Bay. Ijalana was playing because the Colts’ starting LT Anthony Castonzo, the team’s first round pick this year, was forced to leave the game with an ankle injury. No word yet though on how long Castonzo might miss. The Colts also lost DT Eric Foster for the year with a broken ankle." Of course, we don't have them on the schedule this year.

"DeVan had a tough time in the San Francisco loss. Among the lowlights of that game was DeVan tripping and falling into the hole Ronnie Brown was supposed to hit on the infamous "run-pass option" that ended up being a senseless giveaway"" I hope they practice this play untill they get it down. "...do I flop on my stomach or my back,,,, geesh I forget...."

I was expecting 8-8 or maybe 9-7. We are now have 3 wins already, so 9-7 looks achievable. Beating Bellycheck and doint 0.500 is a good year. I'm hoping for more.

Stop Talking Draft Predictions!!!
maryland-bills-fan replied to BILLieve in B-LO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the time to think about who we might draft is during the fall season. The Bills do not play on Saturday. Why not, when you watch college ball, keep an eye out for players that you might like? Doesn't this make some sense so you can have a small window on canidates who the Bills might select with the 32nd pick in the first round? You will not see anywhere enought to know about the gem from the Colorado School of Traffic Control, but get some ideas at least. -
The Bills will resign and lock up some present players but they will have to spend more bucks and offensive tackle has to be the top priority. Most teams have their starters locked up and will even have some starting quality OT's walking. Note in this source, that the Bills are the only one listed with OT as the top #1 ir #2 priority. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6780926/nfl-2011-team-team-needs Team Need 1 Need 2 Need 3 Arizona Cardinals QB OLB OL Atlanta Falcons OL DE TE Baltimore Ravens OL OLB DB Buffalo Bills LT OLB TE Carolina Panthers DT TE DE Chicago Bears OL WR DT Cincinnati Bengals S RB QB Cleveland Browns DL DB RT Dallas Cowboys S OT DL Denver Broncos DT RB OL Detroit Lions CB LB G Green Bay Packers DE OLB G Houston Texans S CB NT Indianapolis Colts S RB DT Jacksonville Jaguars LB S DE Kansas City Chiefs NT OL OLB Miami Dolphins QB RB FS Minnesota Vikings OL S WR New England Patriots OLB WR DE New Orleans Saints OLB SS OT New York Giants RB LB TE New York Jets WR OLB RT Oakland Raiders TE OL DB Philadelphia Eagles CB LB DE Pittsburgh Steelers CB OL RB San Diego Chargers OLB FS WR Seattle Seahawks QB DT CB San Francisco 49ers NT WR DB St. Louis Rams RB DT OLB Tampa Bay Buccaneers OL CB RB Tennessee Titans G/C MLB WR Washington Redskins QB NT CB One analysis of the top 50 FA'a is given here: http://nfltraderumors.co/2011-nfl-free-agents/ and a take on the available offensive tackle is in this 49'er site. http://www.ninersnation.com/2011/6/23/2238118/2011-free-agency-primer-the-tackle-position-and-our-san-francisco I'm hoping Colon or Clabo, but am expecting some weird 2nd tier guy to throw into the mix with the present guys.

Seems to me that I took a couple of accounting courses in my lifetime. (I worked in semi-conductor industry R&D, management and manufacturing engineering). An item in a double entry accouting system is the value of assets. These might be the value of a piece of real estate the company owns, a piece of machinery or an investment in another company. These are things that you own right now and are using or saving. They are not things you necessarily have sold and turned into cash; although, cash on hand is an asset itself. Depending upon what and y you are analyzing things, you might consider the "ROI-worth" of any asset, just as well as considering how that asset enables you to make money by what it does for you in your business.

Like many Americans, I have libertarian tendencies
maryland-bills-fan replied to Hplarrm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or maybe they have all lowered their rates as far as they can and still stay in business? I notice them doing a lot of advertising, special deals, different deals, lock-in deals and free phones trying to take the business from one-another. They wouldn't unless they were competiting. I wonder if you have bothered to look at their annual reports or company stock analysises before opening your mouth on this. You seem to have the following rational behind your statement: "Business make money and create wealth, they are bad. I am entitled to lots of goodies." Probably you also ignore the idea that business create wealth and the government (lately) sees it's job to take that wealth and redistribute it under its own direction and for its benefit. The "company" here is the "NFL", not the individual teams. By themselves, the Chicgo Bears is not worth a dime, because they would have nobody to play. If they barnstormed, they would lose the interest (and ability to generate money) that the rivalries with the Packers, Vikings and Lions brings. -
The NFL is going to have to compress the between seasons player shakeups this year. What I think they are going to do is the following. Times are from the announcment of the deal. [1] A two week period for allowing teams to offer new contracts to their RFA's and newly UFA's. (these are guys who are now, with the new agreement into the UFA pool). Give the teams a )ance to resign their guys. No trades between teams are allowed. [2] Ocurring concurrent with the above, the normal windows for signing drafted players. [3] Occuring concurrent with the above, signing non drafted FA's. [4] Occuring concurrent with the above, trading of signed players. [5] Open season on trading UFA and RFA.

RANK PREV. Warm weather cities with big time college football have the fan base thinking about the beach, fishing, and their partician local school as well as NFL football. The really big cities with two teams suffer from (as said above) a high % of people who grew up somewhere else and still root for their downhome team, where their relatives still live. Florida teams and California teams are more likely to move away because of the tempid fan base. The other remaining teams will pick up fans. -
We will not draft these guys. Only players from east of the Mississippi and south of the mason-dixon line need to be considered. Check out the 2010 draft.

Billsvet saide: 've never understood how building through the draft translates into building exclusively through the draft. If you're a team that's won 10 games in 2 years, I'd expect them to use free agency to get the team to a level above where they've been. Teams should try to rebuild as quickly as possible, and efficiently using UFA is a means to an end. And I'm not talking about how Daniel Snyder approaches UFA. Buddy told RW that it'll take 3-4 years, which is what happens when you're not using all of your options and don't think fans care for those 3-4 seasons. Hopefully free agency begins when Buddy's awake. Because if he goes out and says they signed a guy from someone's practice squad like Mansfield Wrotto and then claims that's like getting another 3rd round pick, they'll be a lot of unhappy Bills fans. UDFA's, street free agents, and other teams' practice squad types don't suffice when you're coming off a 4-12 season. WTF!!?? Take a list at the roster and see how many players came to the Bills from somewhere else. Active # Name Pos. Ht. Wt. Age Exp. The team draft a a couple hundred lower wound picks, and 50 or so hang on as PC guys. The Bills cherry picked the best of them and are trying them out. There are also a lot of UFA, good starting level guys (but not franchise level guys) they have picked up. The "drafted" guys were not drafted in the fist 7 round but the Bills found them and they were picked up and are on the roster. Explains our great WR depth and our last years RB depth. (other teams feasted on the good guys were picked up but were unable to retain). I am not sure I got all the above right (1 second per listing) but I don't see how we are "planning on just living off of the draft". A couple of superstar free agents are not going to turn the Bills around right now. If you are expecting that, I don't think you are realistic. They have put themselves in a position to upgrade the quality of the fill-ins, get a bunch of canidates to compete where we don't have a lights-out starter (to me this is better than plucking out one veteran from somewhere and asuming he is the solution). They are doing everything they can....just don't expect immediate miracles. -

I would be happy if we got an offensive tackle and a TE out of the following: 7. Zach Miller, TE, Oakland Raiders: He led the Raiders with 60 catches last season despite missing time with a foot injury. He would put up even bigger numbers if the passing game around him was better. 10. Tyson Clabo, T, Atlanta Falcons: He's a tough-guy right tackle who makes up for his lack of athletic ability with a fighter's mentality. He uses all the tricks of the trade. 12. Jared Gaither, T, Baltimore Ravens: He missed the 2010 season, but he is a young, athletic tackle who is a good pass protector. The Ravens missed him last season. 13. Marshal Yanda, T, Baltimore Ravens: Yanda can play both guard and tackle, which will help his value. He played well at right tackle last season, but I think he can be a Pro Bowl guard. The money, though, is at tackle. 14. Doug Free, T, Dallas Cowboys: He took over as the starter at left tackle last season and was the Cowboys best lineman. Was it a one-year thing or a sign of things to come? The Cowboys want him back. We gotta get a starting ROT from this bunch at least!!! -
