coywire - you should know that the places Pete mentions are dance club type places that you see on "Wild On E" (is that show still on?) Since you're vacationing, it might be something to check out, but be advised that it won't be cheap. Nicki Beach is probably the coolest (IMHO). I'm more of Coconut Crove guy when I head down to Miami, but that's just me. Like aussie said, there's no centralized location for Bills fan. Check out the Las Olas/A1A area in Ft. Lauderdale for beach hotels that are a bit closer to the stadium. There's no real reason to stay near the stadium. There's nothing there. The fans are okay for the most part. You might run into some real bad apples, but that can happen anywhere. They're very docile when we win. Tailgating is okay. Bring lots of water and sunscreen.

Back to the small screen for JLH. I really thought her career would take off after "Garfield". I predicted that her and Breckin Meyer would be the next Bogey and Bacall.

I read an article about people that have ridiculous memory skills. The one minor skill that they all mastered early was the ability to memorize the order of a shuffled deck of cards. The technique is to assign something to each card and then make a series of 5-6 cards into a sentence that then tells a story. Some believe our brains remember stuff better when it can be matched with a visual image. 83,000 though? That's something.

Good things happening to good people. Karma, baby! Thanks for the write-up Lori! -
I'd keep the "Shout" song, but after home victories they should play the Marv video clip of that on the Jumbotron. It would add to the college game atmosphere as we sing our own "Alma Mater" at the end. Who's with me?

Too bad you're taking your wife, cuz man! the girls the deli section can get freaky! -
My socks are much cheaper, thanks to Wal-Mart. I think finknottle has a point about wage increases. A comparison of WNY median incomes from 1978 and 2005 would probably provide more clarity: Here's what a NY Power Authority Study had to say: New York State has seen continual growth in both real (inflation adjusted) median family income and real per capita income over the period from 1959 through 1999. Real per capita income increased from just under $13,000 in 1959 to just over $25,000 in 1999, somewhat greater than the 1999 U.S. level of around $23,000. Similarly, real median family income in the state has grown from around $23,000 in 1949 to almost $56,000 in 1999. Over the same period, however, the state has experienced an increase in the poverty rate—from 11.1 percent in 1969 to 14.6 percent in 1999, while the nation as a whole has seen a decline. The Western New York region has also seen growth in real per capita income over the 1959-1999 period, though the region has remained below the state level over the entire period, recording real per capita income of just over $20,000 in the 1999 Census (in 2002 dollars), about $5,000 less than the state level. The Western New York region has also seen an increase in the poverty rate, which grew over two percentage points between 1969 and in 1999. However, the poverty rate in Western New York remained below the state level in 2000 at 12.0 percent. In Erie and Niagara Counties, both real per capita income and median family income have increased since 1959, though, like Western New York as a whole, they have remained below average state levels. Real per capita income in Erie County was above the Western New York level by almost $2,000 in the 1999 Census. Niagara County’s per capita income was only slightly above the region with real per capita income of $20,753. Poverty rates in both counties have also grown since 1969, though they remained below the state level in the 1999 Census. PDF doc link It looks like we have more disposable income to spend on Bills tickets, but not as much as other folks around the country. Then again, Bills tickets are a bit lower than other teams (Washington?). The market is the market.

I was going through some old boxes looking for my Zippo. I ran across the ticket stub from my first Bills game: September 3, 1978 Pittsburgh Game 3 Sec: C Aisle 4 Row 21 Seat 11 Price: 8.64 County Charge: 0.25 Tax: 0.61 Total: $9.50 On the back there was an offer for a free Whopper with the purchase of one at any Burger King in the Greater Buffalo Area that expired on September 9, 1978. An online inflation calculator puts the ticket price at $28.95 in 2005 dollars. (Thanks GG!) I remember the seats being pretty good. The configuration of the stadium is different now, but I think the seats were in the neighborhood of sections 135-136 which would be $53.00 today. That's 83% higher. Wow.

Radio Contest Winner Sues Over Candy Bar
HopsGuy replied to Tux of Borg's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This all reminds me of the episode of "WKRP in Cincinnati" where they mistakenly offered a huge cash prize to anyone that could identify all of the songs played in a quick clip. So they made an impossibly hard song list. Of course the 2nd guy that called in got it. That was a great show. -

Drivers Get Tickets After Meters Installed
HopsGuy replied to Tux of Borg's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't this happen in an episode of "Dukes of Hazzard"? I seem to remember Boss Hogg and Roscoe putting meters in from of cars and then ticketing them. Local governments are creative enough when it comes to revenue streams. They don't need to rip-off Hollywood, too. -

Oh I dunno... ------------------------------------ Fabienne: Whose motorcycle is this? Butch: It's a chopper, baby. Fabienne: Whose chopper is this? Butch: It's Zed's. Fabienne: Who's Zed? Butch: Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead. ----------------------------------- The Wolf: That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten. ----------------------------------- Jules: The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. ----------------------------------- Stuff like that. You might want to give it another shot. -
That's the house from the final scene in Beverly Hills Cop. Pauly Shore getting run from the mansion was hilarious.

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me. Pastor Martin Niemöller

Remember the Far Side where all the cows are standing around on their hind legs. One of them yells "Car!" and they all go back to being on all 4s. I miss the Far Side.

I don't make recommendations. But if I did, I certainly wouldn't make them for free. 'Course, if I knew anything, I wouldn't have to work for a living. Also, there are regulatory reasons that I cannot talk about specific issues. Sorry.

The Masters is my favorite, but I disagree on what the USGA does to some of these courses. #17 at Shinnecock was ridiculous last year. Grow out the rough, make the fairways narrow, push the tees back, but water the greens a bit so that a well struck ball will hold and a 3 foot put doesn't roll 15 ft beyond the hole. That's not golf. The winner might be +10 unless they get some rain. That will play into the hands of the real grinders (Singh & Goosen).
