Want to bet Goff will look and throw at Watkins 12X's/game? Oh my god you mean you have to pay for stars? Why? Damn right draft junkies complain every single time about a better player taken later. Watkins was drafted 4th, get over that trade, it was done and we saw what Watkins could do when targeted. As for Tom Brady, what do you think would have happened if Bledsoe never got injured? Brady may never have gotten a chance or if he did, maybe on a bad team. Look at Prescott..... If Romo wasn't injured where would he be. We had a top 5 talent (can anyone argue that) and gave him away for little.....
-
Yes the hate for Watkins is palpable...... ODB is targeted 12+x's a game with a good QB...... Every game they threw to Watkins he was productive. Perfect example of wasted talent was vs. KC, where he torched them the first half and then the Bills forgot he was on the field the second half. Mark my words (as if it matters) that this trade was garbage.
-
You don't give away a top 5 talent for crumbs and that is what they did. This future crap is just a pipe dream (especially in football) and people being sold and obsessed with the draft are kidding themselves. NE was damn lucky that Bledsoe was injured and their 6th round draft choice was Tom Brady.

I understand tanking in the context of drafts and basketball or a top 5 in Hockey. In football and for you junkies it is a crapshoot imo. Now let a Bills fan and non draft expert give his opinion...... This trade is PATHETIC!!!!!! Forget the Darby trade for a minute (though Mathews would have been a nice addition with Watkins) and people commenting on it as a big picture item. Watkins was the reason I watched when he was playing. He was the #4 pick and dynamic when the Bills actually looked at him and threw him the ball. They rolled the dice and needed to see it through. Tired of the injury comments as while a concern he is still young. When he played he was a top 10 talent @ wr. When thrown to, top 5...... I blamed the OC and play calling and saw Watkins woefully underutilized and now the Bills flushed him down the toilet. 17 years and no playoffs and they waved the white flag for 2017 August 11th.... Maybe Houston is taking offers for JJ Watt based on his injuries the last 2 seasons. Could the bills offer their 2nd round pick and some middling CB for him????? We are being played for suckers.

Plea to any Bills decision makers: New OC
Billsfan1972 replied to D. L. Hot-Flamethrower's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hate the idea of throwing and having a passing game in the top half of the league. What fun would that be? -
And that Sammy cost us the game with two crucial drops that killed the momentum and affected the Defense the Bills were playing. I'll revert again to 1999 and one of the best defensive games ever played by Buffalo spoiled by Rob Johnson's pathetic performance vs. Tennessee. I refuse to blame the last play as the offense should have blown out the Titans.....
-
Which means the Bills would have had (in almost every scenario) to trade up in any case get him.......... Perfectly happy with Sammy who is a better deep threat, just missing a qb (or OC depending on where that debate lies). The question then is simply OBJ with this Offense and qb's would have the same production as Watkins. My original thread asked how TSW would have reacted to a playoff game performance (and Miami trip) if it was Watkins and the Bills in place of OBJ & NYG?
-
Actually Mike Evans drops balls and Jordy benefits from a superstar @ QB. Sorry every long ball thrown in 2015 Sammy got and the issue continually was YAC as He caught almost all in traffic or by the sideline and never in motion. The point is that this board and the media is continually railing about the trade to draft him and the injuries whereas his on field performances generally very good when the qb looks his direction. Can imagine OBJ if he was targeted 2-4X/game and lined up outside as a decoy the majority of the game.
-
In Buffalo he is under the microscope with local media in a 2 sport town, where endless radio and newspaper columns are written about 3rd round draft choices, back-ups and DB coaches. Watkins continually is bashed for being fragile and the trade to get him..... It is actually a lot more then OBJ in local terms and I doubt nationally though OBJ is known, 98% of people don't care......
-
And he somehow manages to target OBJ 10+X's/game and throw for 4,400 & 4,000 yards the last two years. However neither were particularly great years, but the one thing the coaching staff an d Eli did was ensure Beckham gets his targets. Not a difficult game plan to ensure your best receiver is thrown the ball. OBJ 132+159+169=460 SW 128+95+52=275 Difference was 2014 Orton through so many away (in SW's direction) that Watkins caught only 65 of them 51%, whereas OBJ caught 91 of 132 (69%).
-
No, only on TSW are people continually whining about the 2014 draft in 2017, where the GM swung for the fences, drafted a star who has performed and is exactly as advertised when the ball is thrown to him (and film also shows open on multiple pass plays and the QB & OC looks elsewhere). Yes some injuries, but it is obvious to all that a QB who targets him 8-10X/game as all top receivers are, and an injury free year and his #'s will match or exceed OBJ's......
-
The point of the thread is reaction to how some on here are frothing at the mouth waiting to pounce at anything Watkins does and continue to bemoan a draft pick that we have no idea what they would have accomplished. Center stage first playoff game (after two 6-10 seasons) and he was terrible. Doesn't mean he is terrible, but certainly can question his ability and maturity. Watkins is berated for dealing with injuries, playing with lousy offensive schemes and yes he made some comments about the continual trolling of some.

Rob Quinn on Trubisky replacing Tyrod
Billsfan1972 replied to Maury Ballstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No QB with the coaching and play calling of the OC could succeed on the bills. Just watching the 2 minute offense, no quick pace or hurry up, unimaginative formations and not using Watkins could also be to blame for a passing game that ranked 30th. Frankly I don't know if he is the QB, but the options are all much worse. I bet an offensively minded coach and the team wins. -
Can someone ask the simple questions

It's great to have a running game however without any passing game you just can not succeed. I think the Bills can add, just refuse to and we're completely unprepared at any point to even try. Heck even when they had some success they would revert. -

Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right..... These are not difficult questions and should have been asked umpteen times over the last two years. Questions in a presser. "What is happening in the two-minute offense where it appears the team is not getting the plays off in a timely manner" "We don't see the team playing up-tempo. Can you explain why?" "OBJ is targeted 10-12X's/game regardless, hwy isn't Watkins?"....... -
Have folks already given up on Cardale?
Billsfan1972 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly...... There is no way he is the Bills QB in 2017 or 218. If he is the Bills QB in the next two years then they are tanking and gunning for 4-12.......
