Every question of "Will the defense be able to work with a new coordinator?" is the same thing we asked ourselves when Pettine left and Schwartz came in. If we were downgrading, it would be a bummer. Miraculously, every time has been an upgrade from the last. Pettine was good. Schwartz was better. Rex will put it over the top. Are we still going to have Mario Williams, Kiko Alonso, and a deep secondary? Then yeah, we'll be fine.

It's an exciting time for the team all around, and it's hard to ask for more than that. Such a refreshing change of pace after the astoundingly boring and predictable Jauron/Chan years.

Our defense took 10 years to return to the level of play that LeBeau got them to during his time here. It would be incredible to land him in some capacity. Schwartz HC, Johnson DC, LeBeau as Asst Head Coach/D Specialist?

I've already said my piece about how every day that its up there it's a continued endorsement of the man, whether you want to see that or not. It's embarrassing for the community to keep it up. If you want to drool over his on the field accomplishments, keep his pristine framed jersey in your man cave. Then you can give your reasoning about how you're just honoring the yards he accrued anytime you have someone over. New idea for the Wall, though: Replace it with "The Electric Company." Yeah, Joe is up there, but O-Lines as a unit rarely get the credit they deserve, despite being a huge factor in overall success. At this point, they should be how the team remembers that period.

Its the only way I can see them being creative. To make a somewhat more serious point, I do think he's right about one thing: I don't think coaching football is as hard as it's made out to be. It's just that the jobs tend to go to people in the system, in the general good ol' boys club, and there's really no way for anyone to get into it without clawing their way in somehow. Being related is definitely the easiest way. But it's definitely not rocket science. Honestly, I think if you could crowd-source personnel or coaching decisions to the fans, they would be right at least as much as the coaches. There were people on TSW calling for Russell Wilson. Virtually every game is broadcast and therefore scoutable. I don't know that I could be convinced that the people working in the NFL in coaching or GMing are actually more capable than the fans. Maybe I'm completely wrong, I just think they're all full of it. It's a big layer of gibberish laid over what is essentially relatively simple chess moves. A guy like Doug Marrone was a head coach in the NFL and I think in an IQ contest, Larry David would win overwhelmingly. I bet with a little training, he'd do better, too.

I would also say Buffalo. It seems like a lot of pressure. As annoying as it is to read the whiny drivel from Sullivan as a fan, I imagine it's much more irritating when it's you that he's talking about. Ever go to a really small town and see their local paper has almost Onion-like headlines like "Jerry is banned from Big Lots" or "Marty got married"? When there's nothing else to really talk about, you have to talk about something. So the Bills get a lot of scrutiny. And there's that in NYC, but there's also other news stories besides the NFL. Plus, they have more teams to complain about. We have the Bills and sometimes the Hockey Bills.

OJ Simpson is the Bills greatest player like the Pats won the Super Bowl: it deserves a huge asterisk.

And it's also worth pointing out that removing the name doesn't erase the fact that it was once up there. It's such a clear decision, IMO, the only reason it hasn't been brought down already is this is an organization clearly mired in the thinking of "well it's just how we've always done things, so, even though they don't make sense, we've always done it that way, and let's just keep doing it." How about this as a rule of thumb for Wall of Fame: if its in any doubt, it really shouldn't be up. If OJ wouldn't be welcome in the stadium — and he wouldn't — he shouldn't have his name on the Wall. I'll go further and say having OJ Simpson's name on the Wall diminishes the value of the other names. To be strictly practical, removing it would be a good "quietly noble" PR move for the Pegulas. Nobody is going to be like "wow, what a terrible move!" People might respond with "how was it still up to begin with?! Good for them to take it down." Moreover, it would just be right.

The Wall of Fame is not legal status. Nobody's taking away any of his rights. But we can stop celebrating a guy better known for murder than for athletic accomplishments from 30-40 years ago.

Quietly taking it down during this offseason would be the best move. Obviously you don't make a big deal about it (please sit down, Brandon), but it would inevitably get noticed and reported on. And then the story becomes a very positive one: new owner Terry Pegula is doing good things in Buffalo, it's a new day, and the new-era Bills can lead the way of a football-obsessed community done right.

Its embarrassing to have his name still up there. It doesn't matter what he accomplished when he played. He could have multiple MVPs and be solely responsible for a Super Bowl win and I'd still say pull it down. It makes the team/organization/community look like they're passively defending OJ as a person because he was a star athlete. We have plenty of other star athletes to celebrate that aren't connected to murder. For a Wall of "Fame", OJ Simpson is way more famous for being a criminal than a Buffalo Bill. In my opinion, removing his name is way, way, way overdue. Time to let it go. Take it down.

I'm sure every town has their local idiot sports journalists, but some of the ones in Buffalo have to be among the most brutal in the entire game. Sullivan starts so much ****, has such a garbage whiny tone, and is so frequently embarrassingly wrong.

Boobie became one of my favorite players this year, and his kind of amazing attitude is a huge reason why. His two blocked kicks and a few really powerful runs didn't hurt, either.

So Cable can be the OC for HC Bevell then. Bevell still calls the plays, and Cable is an OC like Marrone was an OC in New Orleans: a glorified OL coach.

Well, a QB trusting his instincts, a strong offensive line, and imaginative usage of the read option are all reasons why his work as an OC are impressive. All of that goes into it, no? Theoretically, Bevell as HC allows him to bring over a lot of those same guys that made the offensive line impressive. As a counterexample, Hackett taught all of his QBs to NOT trust their instincts. We saw EVERY QB regress because of this. EJ, Thad, and Orton. I guess maybe Jeff Tuel made progress, so he can have that feather in his cap.

IMO, he is the closest to a slam dunk candidate as there is available. He would be a perfect fit for our current situation. His credits: —Discovered and developed Russell Wilson, when no one else in the NFL was considering him. —Continued to innovate on offense after defenses started figuring out what they were doing. —Former QB, has a speciality in developing scrambling strong-armed QBs —Was the OC in Minnesota and helped Favre to his big year there, and one of the best years of Favre's career PFT reports that the Bills have requested permission to interview him. I think he makes way more sense than anyone else they're looking at. He's an offensive specialist who has shown the ability to make something out of nothing. Unlike Gase or McDaniels, he isn't leaning on a HOF quarterback. Unlike Reich, he has a proven track record of success. Bevell/Schwartz/Whaley is a power trio that I would have a lot of faith in.
