Doyle in the 5th and Anderson in the 7th. That's hardly a commitment to improving the OL. Spencer is barely hanging on. We gotta do better. Gotta draft OL higher. Creed over Boogie would've been huge.  Let Sean draft his DE'S in the 5th & 7th round where they likely don't even stick after 3 years. If we don't surround Josh with 5 amazing olineman, we'll waste his prime years.

I don't disagree. I was simply pointing out that they did use a bunch of picks in 2021.  It's too bad Doyle got hurt because word was he looked good, and maybe he could've given Brown a push at RT?  They also seemed to like the IOL Anderson who was snatched up by the Eagles when they tried to get and keep him on the PS last year. He's currently getting a little playing time for the Giants.  And, yes, it was disappointing they passed on Creed.

Not trading Teller and picking Humphrey over Boogie, we're probably not having this thread....

Yea, that's totally fair but I wasn't saying here is every single bit of data - it is a fair point to say "how many snaps are guys playing" but there will be lots of different reasons guys play fewer snaps. Rousseau plays fewer snaps because while a starter since day 1 the Bills are a heavy rotation team up front. Someone like Oweh has more snaps but isn't a starter and is used mainly as a situational rusher. Of course there is nuance about usage with all of those players. They are not playing in the exact same scheme, or on the field the same amount. I wasn't saying it was a complete picture. I was just saying there are some conclusions you can draw from the data presented. You can't know everything because team, talent around them, scheme.... it all factors in.

And the post he replied to wasn't about that anyway. It was about the Bills struggles with contain vs the Dolphins. I am a big Rousseau fan, but even he had some issues against the run on Saturday, even though overall he has been one of the NFL's premier edge defenders vs the run.

I agree there are many factors to consider when trying to compare stats, but, at minimum, they should be adjusted for the number of snaps each has played.

Also, while Bado replied to the "setting the edge" issue, he still made the same point in that response as well:

I appreciate your analysis but I think you should acknowledge that your comparison between the two was a bit skewed without weighing playing time at all.

As I said from the outset.........Rousseau is never going to look flashy doing it...........but he makes more plays than anyone from that class...........he just doesn't get enough opportunities because of the rotation.

I always appreciate your analyses, and not trying to be overly critical, but, based on the current stats and adjusting for snaps played, Bado is correct in that Rousseau "makes more plays than anyone from that class".

Would he be the first DE off the board in a re-draft?  I'd certainly give him the "edge"...

I don't disagree with any of that not sure what you were taking issue with? Rousseau has been an excellent run defender while he has been here but on Saturday it isn't true to say that all their issues setting the edge were when he was out. They had some struggles even when he was in there.

AJ and Boogie suck at it.

He's mainly taking issue with your statistical comparison which doesn't account for the total number of snaps. While you list the number of starts, it does not account for actual snap counts per game. With the Bills rotational system, GR has significantly fewer snaps this season than JP (according to Bado, 45% fewer snaps).

For the 2 years in total, Football reference says JP has 1287 snaps compared to GR's 908, about 42% more snaps. If you adjust (multiply by 1.42) GR's the sacks and pressure totals, then they are exactly the same as JP's, but GR's TFLs increase to 23, compared to JP's 16.

  4. Buscaglia agrees. From his All-22 yesterday:

Outside of his one late-game pressure and a recovered fumble, the starting defensive tackle may have gone under the radar. But he was, without question, one of the best players on the field Sunday. He was outstanding at the line holding his ground against a double team, and when given a one-on-one chance to disrupt the backfield, he was continually in a position to help make a play. His efforts helped force many tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage against the Jets’ ground game. He also added a pair of key pressures for a well-rounded game, despite the limitations of pass rushing from the one-technique position. And without Ed Oliver for most of the final two drives and Jordan Phillips the entire game, Jones had to become an every-snap player at a position the Bills usually rotate heavily. Jones had to play on 20 of the Bills’ final 21 defensive snaps in the fourth quarter. His overall importance to the team was critical to its success.

Jones has been having games like these the entire season, under the radar but also unequivocally good. While the Bills have dealt with multiple injuries to the position all season, Jones has been healthy, available and playing a high snap percentage every time they needed him. Outside of the first Jets game, the run defense has also been excellent for most of the season, and Jones has played a massive role in its success. And unlike Star Lotulelei and Harrison Phillips, Jones’ one-technique predecessors in Buffalo, Jones provides a more consistent pass rush. He won’t get a lot of credit nationally for being the impact signing that he has been in 2022. But given Von Miller’s season-ending injury, you can make a compelling argument that he has become the Bills’ most crucial free-agent acquisition from the 2022 offseason.

7 sacks in 10 starts this season. His length is disruptive. You cant get into his radius and come out ok. He seems to have a really good head on his shoulders. Has said he keeps learning from Von. I wonder how many sacks Von has added by just training with our line? My guess would be at least 5.

No chance. Their D is def worse. No Jerry / Von , no Hyde

tre hobbled and won’t make an impact

shaq is a  fringe roster maker/JAG

They had a weaker schedule last year.

Do you remember when they were 7-6 and couldn't stop the run?

Let's see how they finish out.

Taron Johnson has appeared to be shaky much more than I remember this year in pass coverage it seems...

This take might be a bit shaky too. The secondary has been in constant flux. Maybe if there was a little more stability, it wouldn't appear that TJ looks shaky this year? The D in general has been a carousel, but the DBs in even more so.

What the actual *****?  Tommy Doyle is a MAN!!  Just.....wow.

Yeah, imagine you have no OL left on the sidelines and your 5th on the field has an ACL tear, and they still should've won that game.

I imagine the Bills are looking at the December game with Miami a lot like they looked at the Titans game, want to put a hurt on that team...
