Yes and it sounds like a month away type of vibe ...
The nice thing about him being on the PS is they can play him 3 games before having to sign him to the 53. When they think he's ready, bring him up for one game, then give him a couple weeks before they do it again. Give him enough exposure to see if he can help a playoff push, or not.

This reminds me, as I recall, that someone started a thread complaining about the Bills' lack of a pass rush based on a preseason game.

Hairston is going to be the key to this season. Watching some of the all 22 reviews, he's been a stud the first two games he's played. You were seeing Mahomes get hit and sacked because for once, the backend was holding up. It wasn't just Tre White 2 yards behind the receiver for 60 minutes.
Let’s amend that first sentence to “the two U of Kentucky rookies are going to be the key to this season.”

Well, that's how it seems to work over here at TBD, no? If you missed my point, it is that Reid takes McDermott to school every single time they meet in the playoffs. Why, if they meet again this year, do you think it will be any different? Something I noticed while watching the game, KC didn't leave anyone in to chip Bosa. Not a single time. Bosa was active in their backfield all night. Somehow I don't think that will be their game plan if we see them again in the playoffs. Just as an example. We all know when it comes to facing KC in games not during the regular season, they are 100% in our heads. That goes for the players, coaches, and the fans. Anyone saying otherwise is fooling themselves. They are the ONLY AFC team I do not want to see in the playoffs. I don't care what their record is how how great the Patriots and Colts have looked so far. KC in the playoffs is our kryptonite. That's pretty obvious even to outsiders and casual fans.
Andy Reid is in the top 3 GOAT coaches. Not many people out-coach him in the playoffs. Not that it hasn’t happened, but no one consistently does.
it seems clear to me that the main key to beating KC is a 4 man pass rush that wins more often then not. It wasn’t just Bosa this game either. Groot had one of his best games; Epenesa and Solomon also had pressures.
KC had no answer for the Eagles pass rush last year. There isn’t much a coach can do when your OL gets manhandled by the DL, especially if you’re unable to run the ball.
If the Bills don’t have anymore DL injuries, and they get Oliver, sanders, and Jones back, I would expect a similar result.-

I’m all the way in on Walker, I think we’ve got ourselves an absolute monster. I’m glad we took a chance on him.
Yeah, this is a much better example of what he's capable of doing for the run D.

This play is why I think he's the key to the Bills' post-season because of what he does in the run game, but he's also great at pushing the pocket in the pass rush.

I thought Groot had his best game as a Bill. I think Walker may be the most important of all when we get to the playoffs.
Speaking of Walker, this clip from Cover1 shows him keeping the RTfrom getting to Milano who ends up making the tackle.

I'm excited about several young players. I start with a list of 3 Bills that received elite performance grades from PFF for the Chiefs game.
1. Kincaid
2. Hairston
3. Rousseau
To have Hairston graded that high so soon delights me no end! Kincaid is starting to play like a 1st rounder. Walker excites me as do Strong, Hancock, Hawes and we still haven't seen much of Sanders or Jackson. Heck ya!

Where we differ is that I draw the line at coming up short again in the playoffs...but I do get your perspective.
Seriously, I do think there is bad blood there, not just with Allen, but some OL too.

Kinda hard to believe given that they're 27th in pass attempts! They are fourth in points per game.
They are also 11th in turnover differential (+3) and tied for fifth in fewest giveaways (6). Incidentally, Miami leads the league in turnovers with 15.
I mentioned this under the "Brady is the issue" thread, but it certainly deserves its own. While, yes, it's not the "best" metric, it is still an indicator that this offense is very good, despite what some people think of Brady.

Yeah..... It's because of the lack of finish. Everyone is high on Walker, and hopefully rightfully so, because he makes splash plays. He's finished in both the pass and run game at times. But if you watch Sanders, he does get pressure up the middle more than you think, but because there is no finish, you don't think about him as much. But he has forced some good plays himself. The problem with both of these DTs is that they are struggling with gap integrity and are getting washed out in the run game way too much. Walker will make a couple of eye popping plays per game, but many of those come off of him cheating his gap. He'll backside a play where he's supposed to be 1 gap over and make a play in the backfield sometimes. But there are times he cheats and takes himself completely out of the play and that's why there are big runs against us sometimes. I don't think Sanders cheats as much and that's why you don't see the splash plays in the run game. The problem is, though, even with him being in the right gap, he is still getting washed out way more than you want to see.
Look....it's not easy playing DT. There is a lot more than you think that goes into it. What you hope is that these guys learn to stay home, be in the right gap which probably keeps a LB free to fill in the hole. Do your 1/11th. But these guys have 13 more games to figure this all out before we need them to be at the next level for the Playoffs. Hopefully they both improve each week.
According to Cover1, he does lose gap integrity sometimes, but not often. I’ve heard bits from various players alluding to the issues with the run as “attention to detail”. So, bottom line, I think your last paragraph sums it up nicely.
ps. Scrolling through C1 on X, he’s got a short clip that shows It was Sanders who flushed Rattler from the pocket for AJE’s sack.-

TJ Sanders 👀
This is why I'm surprised (or not?) that so many people here think he hasn't done much? Maybe because pressures aren't in the box score? I notice him near the QB (pressure) several times every game. The sacks will come.

What were your public feelings about the Amari Cooper trade at the time it happened?
I understand your frustration but both McDermott and Beane have stated many times that the team's philosophy is that you win football games in the trenches.
This is their philosophy.
A few things on the subject:
1) Solomon is a core special teamer.
2) This is Solomon's audition. It's his last big chance to show he belongs before they make a decision on him.
3) The team is winning without Jackson and still has plenty of time to ease him into a rotation based on Solomon's performance... there's no reason to rush.
I would add that Solomon also has a year under the system, which is not all about a pass rush. As I mentioned in my other post in this thread, McD mentioned that LJ is getting close, which I interpret at understanding the system well enough to warrant play time.

This is a corollary to the Landon Jackson thread so feel free to merge.
I looked at the top 19 picks in the 3rd round. I don't have much of a life but I do want to get in the workshop tonight so I just did the top half. That is 19 picks as there were 38 picks. Bills drafted Landon Jackson with the 8th pick in the 3rd round so just about in the middle of this
From NFL.com draft profile:
Sources Tell Us
“He’s tough, but I don’t see enough contact balance to play down in an odd front. Let him be a big even-front base end. He’s got a chance to become a good starter but it won’t happen early on.” – NFC national scoutpretty much sums up how many viewed him. Relatedly, McD was quoted last week saying something like “he’s getting close to playing.”
Patience, the kid will take a little time to mold.

Agree with these two. That was Bishop's best game of the year and the interception was incredible. Big for the Bills because Taylor Rapp has had a really rough start to the year and their safety play does concern me. But on the flipside my patience has just about expired with Dorian Williams. It's a shame because I liked that pick and he is a physical specimen who can run and hit but he loses too many reps between the ears. I am not saying cut him but this is not the guy who long term succeeds Matt Milano. The Bills will have to go back to well and try and draft that next spring (somewhere in the mid rounds ideally).
On the (mr) Brightside, Shaq Thompson has made at least one “who the hell was that?” play (in a good way) each game.
its taken me 4 games to finally have it sink in he’s #45.-

Zion Logue just because I think he deserves a little recognition. He looks like a solid run defender.
The Bills are going to have some difficult decisions once Hoecht and Ogunjobi return, and it's possible someone will try to sign Logue off the PS before that happens.

I won't be parking in HL, but I am hoping to take my stepdaughter to the lot to see the game-day tradition of "Pinto Ron" getting his shower. Anyone know about how long before game time that happens (I assume it still goes on)?

Since 2021 (have to start somewhere, the Bills also invested picks in 2020)
The Chiefs have drafted a WR for 5 consecutive years. 1st rounder, (2) 2nd rounders, 4th rounder, and 5th rounder. So fairly high value assets. The results of those drafts are below.
Jalen Royals, Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice, Sky Moore, and Cornell Powell.
The Bills have drafted a WR for 5 consecutive years as well. 1st rounder, 2 (5th's), and 6th rounder, and a 7th rounder. So fairly low value assets outside of Coleman. The results of those drafts are below.
Keon Coleman, Kaden Prather, Justin Shorter, Khalil Shakir, and Marquez Stevenson.
What interests me about this question is for largely two consecutive years when I have watched Chiefs games I have said to myself this has to be the worst WR group in football. I mean, we complain about our WR's, but last week it was Hollywood Brown, Taquan Thornton, and Ju Ju. Last year it was largely the same. Mind you, Worthy could very well be something, and Rice is something, but neither looks to be the most durable. Maybe that is dumb bad luck, maybe not, but the fact remains KC is consistently fielding a horrific WR core the last two years.
Meanwhile back in Buffalo, we have been a bit more hesitant to invest high value here. I think it's been stated by Beane that WR is a very hard position to judge in the draft. Perhaps that is what leads to apprehensiveness. Which I largely don't agree with, however, our approach seems pretty clear. We focus this position on depth and an elevated floor vs a high ceiling, specifically with budget friendly FA acquisitions.
Now one thing is for sure. We will never be running a Taquan Thornton on the field. We have good depth here. When Elijah Moore is one of your last in, that is a problem the Chiefs would love to have. But beyond the depth, you could very well argue that the returns of Coleman and Shakir rival the returns of Worthy and Rice. Rice could very well be the best of the group, but you need to play to be in the conversation.
So as much as I have historically disliked our approach at WR, I think what has happened to the Chiefs is sort the reason we have that approach. I think we care more about depth and ensuring it's not a position that kills us vs reaching for the stars and missing. Further, I would argue for as much crap as we give the front office over the WR position and I still feel somewhat justifiably so, KC has done a much worse job. They have reached a critical point in talent erosion multiple years. They invested more in the draft for the same or even worse returns. Yes, a lot of bad injury luck, but nobody cares about the recipe they want to know how it tastes.
Interesting take. It's clear that Beane has been hesitant to draft WR with premium picks (1-3), rather he goes the FA or trade (Diggs) route.
Maybe Kincaid should be included since he was viewed strictly as a receiving threat? I believe the Bills (Beane?) talked about his pov too?

Some observations on the DL:
I was disappointed how many times the veterans, Bosa and AJ, bit on the run fake and let Lamar get outside.
I was surprised to notice Solomon in on the first series. Seems he played a lot this game. I'll be interest to see the snap counts.
Sanders stood out to me on a few plays; Walker did not.
I hope this is the Ed Oliver we see all season--mostly unstoppable.
All in all, I'm encouraged with the young guys--trial by fire. We will need them come February...

Game week thread - Bills at Dolphins
in The Stadium Wall
Posted · Edited by TPS
I assume you see some of Cover1's videos? Two Solomon videos stood out to me this week, one was a pressure on Mahomes, the other was dropping in coverage in which he did a great job. He's a second year R5 pick who is getting better and better.
found the coverage video—looks dam good.
