1. In this D it's more important to have a player who knows and plays the team system than a more talented player who does not. Losing a talented Mario, in this case, is addition by subtraction. Adding Ragland in place of bradham will be an improvement too. The most important positions that can't mask talent are the CBs, which they have. The biggest concern I gave is depth.
2. rob is now DDC. I believe Rex will entrust rob with play calling so he can focus more on overall game management.
3. I found it difficult breathing through most of the episode. Intense.
4. I was a Rex doubter last year, and I was (unfortunately) justified. however, barring a rash of injuries, I think we'll see a top 10 D this year, which gives them a very, very good chance at the playoffs. Rex's D requires the different parts to work in unison, which they obviously did not do last year. I think they've "corrected" the issues from last year, and they've added some needed personnel--I believe Ragland is the most important addition. Lawson--either one--will provide the team aspect needed at Mario's old position. The only person who worries me is Dareus, as he's still making noise about Rex's D. He needs to go "all in". That said, I'm also okay now with Rex doing his thing. The only talk about Buffalo prior to Pegula/Rex was when the team would move. The future for Buffalo is bright in many ways now, so put on those shades and enjoy the ride.
5. in the offseason everything is on the table, and the more hardcore fan you are the more things you think about. All part of being a fan.
6. Casablanca has a lot of great lines: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here! [your winnings sir...] Here's Johnny! That one just reminded me of "You can't handle the truth!"
7. It was very weird watching Rob because they are so much alike, though Rob uses "obviously" a bit less... Is April a fool or genius?
8. I really enjoyed that too. It was the first time I've seen a rob ryan interview too. I like what I'm hearing. Hope they can deliver the baby...
9. Yes, I've got to believe that they are moving toward a happy ending, or at least as happy as it gets in Westeros, but those previews have given me a bad vibe... Assuming the best, they still need to reveal his lineage from Bran's vision of the Tower of Joy, which I would think has to happen in the last episode this season? He's been very reluctant to lead. Fortunately Davos is there to slap him upside the head.
10. Yes to this. Is Rex a coach or player?
11. Is it possible Jon Snow dies......again?
12. i got the impression from the preview that Jon and Ramsey will go Mano a mano after some initial battles?
13. The "big twist" re Arya? No twist...
14. Another one hitter and a band I actually saw play, Blues Image, "Ride Captain Ride." Everything else was so bad, they were forced to re-play their one hit to quiet the audience's grumbling.
15. Something in the air, by Thunder Clap Newman
16. Probably the idea of easing a rookie in since you have the elder Lawson he can learn from.
17. Wasn't sure where to post this, but Carucci has some interesting tidbits in his 3 thoughts column linked on the TBD front page. In particular, a scout he talked to said of the first 3 draft picks, he was highest on Washington. From what little I saw of him, I wasn't impressed, but I'm not scout. He wasn't as enamored with Lawson, but was also high on Ragland, but called him a 2-down player. Related to the OP, we just might be having this (best draft ever) argument for real in a few years. Last year I started a post stating I was skeptical that Ryan's D would be better than what Schwartz did. I regret to say I was right, but I certainly didn't think they would fall that far. I am much more optimistic this year, as I think the team will go "all in" with the Ryans. I also think that Ragland is the most important piece added, as he will also make Brown better. I think he'll be the piece that helps the run D average < 100 ypg for the first time in forever. It must be the offseason....
18. Thinking about it a bit more, I have a feeling there is going to be a twist to Arya's stabbing. Knowing the Waif was coming for her, she was too cavalier gadding about town and throwing money down for her ride home, as if shouting out "here I am!" Next week's title is "No One," so we'll get answers for sure.
19. you want more reality with your fantasy? The preview shows arya leaping from a building--must've been flesh stab wounds. Seriously, I'm expecting some kind of many-faced gods twist there? Neither clegane should be alive, but the gods have plans....
20. He's still a badass, as we'll see next week. I'm sure he knows who he is, which means he'll know who the hound is when the time comes. One other thing I liked about the episode, the verbal smack downs of cersei by olenna and Jaime by the Blackfish.
21. episodes 6 and 7 have basically been set up pieces. The last 3 should be epic, especially 9 as usual. My two favorite characters at the moment, Davos and the Blackfish. Good to have the hound barking again too. Wonder if he'll have a reunion with Arya?
22. MTV started out as a nice idea too...
23. I like to refer to RR's defenses with the Jets, especially his #1 ranked D in 2010. 1. The front 3 were Ellis, Pouha, and DeVito. The Bills front 3 should be better with Washington/Bryant, Dareus, and KW. While Dareus is not viewed as a true NT, he is similar in size as Pouha--and definitely better, and will require double teams. 2. The LBs were B.Thomas, Scott, Harris, and Pace. The Bills have S&M Lawson, Ragland, Brown, and Hughes. To answer your question, Hughes is physically similar to Pace, and has the athleticism to do all that is expected of him in the Ryan D. I personally think the #1 improvement for the D is the addition of Ragland in the middle. According to Whaley, he would've been their R1 draft pick, as Ryan needs a thumper in the middle. Manny Lawson will also be a very valuable cog in this D. 3. In the secondary, the Jets had Revis and Cromartie at CB, and Leonhard and Pool (who?) at safety. The Bills have Gilmore and Darby, and AWilliams and Graham. With a year under his belt, Graham should improve significantly. The CBs are probably the key to RR's defense, and G&D are comparable to R&C. Last year I was skeptical that Ryan would field a better D than Schwartz; however, I think the Bills now have the tools and commitment to run Ryan's D at a very high level. The Ryan twins should redeem themselves this year, and finish with a top 10 D. Despite a tougher schedule this year, I am becoming optimistic again....pass the Kool-Aid....
24. i think his visions are simply "learning" about the past so he can be prepared when fire is necessary to deal with ice. For example, he needs to know about wildfire; about jon's lineage; that, despite what Jamie did to him, He killed the mad king to save people; etc. someone has to have the knowledge In order to rally the 7 kingdoms. Does he do it as the lord of the light? Maybe. If so, I think he does so through showing the past and future to certain people. Though we've seen him do it, creating history has too many consequences. Why not go back and save his mother, father and brother? In addition, why was that one character brought back from death 4 times? On the other hand, maybe they'll do a George Bailey episode, where he attempts to do so but it !@#$s up things so much he realizes he better not screw with history, rather he needs to lead the present to the future.... It just hit me after posting, maybe the realization what he did to Hodor was the George Bailey moment?
25. though he isn't in the category the op focuses on, incognito took less than what he could've got elsewhere as well.
