Including preseason, this was about his 4th or 5th similar drop or mistake that led to an incompletion on what would have been a big play.

The benefit of airing it out isn't just the 1 in 5 chance it is completed.   Bombs loosed up the defense, drop the safeties and open up the middle.

Same way reverses keep the Defensive Ends at home rather than gaining big yards

Show me some evidence that they were friends, can you post some pictures of their families going on vacation together, then I'll agree they are friends.  Though even then many times staff members do socialize together.   They both worked together for the same team for a few seasons, that hardly makes them friends.  They didn't go to college together or follow eachother from team to team.  How many times do you hear a team hires a new HC and right away he brings some of his old staff with him.  Rex brought half his Jets staff here.  Marrone brought Hackett and then brought him to Jax too.  Based on your definition, that must make them all friends too.  Well if so, then yes all the teams are doing it.

Bill Pollian had worked with Marv Levy in the CFL guess he hired his friend too.

I do agree that TP forced two coaches on Whaley, if he was allowed to pick his own guy who would he likely have chosen, probably someone he had some type of prior relationship with previously.

See what church they go to.  That will tell you how close our faith based process oriented Coach and GM are.

The Browns also received EJ Gaines who will be excellent addition to their IR.

I wish we had him.   Even if he only played 10 game last year we won 9 of them

Anyone think that the Bills trading for Cory Coleman was an unspoken clause/agreement to the Tyrod deal between Buffalo and Cleveland?  I felt like the  pick we got for Tyrod was such a steal... and cutting Coleman gave the Browns another draft pick + we're paying for cleaning up Clevelands cap a bit this year.  Cleveland may have wanted to see what Josh Gordon's status was going to be, also not sure if they had signed Landry yet.

Why wouldn't it just have been included in the original trade?

If he loses his confidence, he never had the make up of a great QB in the first place.  This has got to be the biggest myth in professional football today.  Sorry but David Carr wasn't ruined by his line, he just sucked.

I don't think it is a matter of make up.   Like David Carr, we watched it happen to Rob Johnson.  Once a QB starts getting pummeled they begin to watch the pass rush rather than keeping eyes downfield on the receiving options.  That is a human survival instinct that is a product of getting sacked that kicks in not some  predetermined genetic make up.  Agree?

Fair enough, but then why not keep Allen as a last resort? Why trade McCarron? Allen, is going to get demolished behind this line - I think they had to have known going into this that it was going to end badly for whoever is in at quarterback. You could put Tom Brady out there and he would look bad.

Tyrod would have been better behind this line too.  Moving him was a mistake as well since they are still paying him in dead cap money

This isn't a remodel where they are just replacing the drywall. They are completely leveling the house and repouring the foundation. That foundation consists of players like Josh Allen and Tremaine Edwards, and right now there just isn't much built on top of them (yet).

He's building this house the exact way it should be built (whether fans understand this or not) -- through the draft. Unfortunately, it's going to take time. It's a waste of energy getting upset over 1-yr contract stop-gaps like Vonte Davis.

So while the knee-jerk crowd is out there having a conniption after each loss this year, know this -- if Beane is right about Allen, he's already the best GM we've had in the last 20 years.

How is it a waste of time to be upset over Vontae Davis signing for 5 million then not dressing.   We let a playoff caliber CB (in this D) in EJ Gaines walk and then sign for $4 million.  Even if Gaines was hurt a lot we still won the games he played in.   Plus Davis has the same or worse injury history.  Is it a waste of time to second guess a starting CB decision?  How does McBeane get a pass from you on that one?

As for building through the draft, how can you build an entire roster with 7 picks per year on 4-5 year contracts?   You have to utilize free agency, trades, and eventually resign existing core players to make it work.  You should review our dead cap situation on Spotrac.  The split between contracts in the dead cap is 51% Whaley, 49% Beane already.

Is it a knee jerk reaction when we go from a playoff roster to what we viewed on Sunday?

I saw many teams that were ready for opening day.

We should have known the Bills wouldn't have been ready.   We had competitions at QB, C, and CB going right up to the week before the game.  Those were arguably the worst positional performances of the game too.

Not enough time or reps to get ready.  Our worst fears were realized - we had three QBs (one in Oakland) all partially ready to play.  Center/O line were not together and CB turned into a debacle with Davis not even suiting up.  Poor process planning and execution to get ready for the opener.

If we can’t judge him yet this season we certainly can’t blame him for all the dead cap space since he was hired after the draft last season (when a lot of FA deals were already made)

52% of the dead cap dollars were Whaley contracts, 48% of it was Beane contracts.   That is too much too soon.   Compare Beane to SF and other teams that have 2nd year GMs.   None have 53 million in dead cap or a lower payroll.

Also did any team spend 50 million in free agency this past year?  Ever? You can't do it so having it is not an asset.  Money needs to be on the field.

  10. We don't even have enough cap space to pay Mack's 2018 salary not even considering the extension.   We may have guys coming in for workouts but I would guess we don't sign anyone with only 9  mil in space for this season.   Figuring in injuries and replacement players that is about the minimum you would go into a season with.

Stop shopping at the top and hit the bargain bin for 2018.

    My favorite part...

And just being honest about it, [Joe] Flacco sucks. I played him two years in a row. He sucks.

Only an idiot would judge a superbowl winner by two games in his career.  He obviously didn't see Flacco's high point in Denver as I did.  Maybe he is not what he was but he still has a ring and earned.  What has Ramsey earned?  Some writer awards?

Can we submit past coaches and QBs for that list?

    Or Patriots players?

I think he's still a kid and having fun.  A person can be focused, driven, professional, and still like to have fun.  Does anyone really believe Allen having some fun with the table-smashing thing is indicative of a "problem?"  Get real.  Whether you like it or not "Bills Mafia" is a thing, it's not going away, and being all "get off my lawn" about it won't do you any good.

Didn't the Bills Mafia organizers try to distance themselves from the table smashing?

We will see how this autograph works out when someone gets paralyzed and sues the Bills.   This looks like promoting/encouraging from a legal perspective.   Dumb move because it is completely unnecessary.

They cannot afford to "yo yo" a first year quarterback. If they are not 100% sure he's the guy then they had better not play games with him. Let one of the other two lame ducks take the beating for a year. Allen is the franchise quarterback. You don't risk possibly ruining him.

I know this, you know this, all Bills fans know this.   Based on what you have seen from McBeane, do you think they know this?   .......Peterman, Carolina starting Cam from day one.

Everyone has to be prepared to struggle if Allen plays. Not accept the struggles, but we can't try and replace him once he starts. There will be growing pains. May take a 4-12 season before we reap the rewards.

Do you think the Coach and GM with one year under their belts are prepared to struggle?  IMO this kid is going to start from day one and they will yo yo him in and out of the starting role if the O line  and WR experiments fail.   As Bills fans we know the danger of doing this however 2nd year head coaches and GMs who have already demonstrated the ability to yo yo quarterbacks do not.

  17. There needs to be finer segments for the middle.  Mid forties is the dividing line and there is a huge difference between early forties and late forties because the latter was just old enough to see a Superbowl caliber team come together.
