    This should be interesting.

HOW precisely will this team fix the problem of having 3 available DE and no decent WR on the roster?

Well by now Epenesa is back so there is 4 DEs by your count.  We signed Fox so there is 5.   Palmer is practicing in full and while you may not believe he is the answer, he was brought in to be the answer.   I thought he looked his best the game he got hurt so I'm optimistic.  Throw Gabe Davis on there and resources are being allocated.   They might not be armchair fantasy football type solutions we dream up on this board, but I am hoping they are better than the skeleton crew we have been trotting out there.

This freakin place is so awful after a loss. Obviously 2 in a row makes it way worse.

We're making the playoffs. That's all i care about. I would love the #1 seed, but I reject any notion we need it. McDermott's playoff road record may be 0-whatever, but that leaves out the fact that other than 2019 (when we weren't this iteration of the Bills and Josh Allen wasn't yet Elite), every road playoff loss came against the Chiefs.

That proves somehow we're doomed on the road against other teams in the playoffs??? Totally disagree.

I also think this crowning of NE is really premature.

Guys, before the season started looking at our schedule to start the season I think we all would have been happy with 5-1 at the bye. We're one game off that pace with a mass of circumstances I think we underestimated.

Let's just take a step back for a moment and look at what really happened against Atlanta.

Our #1 receiving weapon who's become Josh’s most reliable target and finally seemed ready to break into that "Elite TE" category was out.

Josh Palmer got injured on the 2nd series and I really think that killed our offensive passing game. It was clear to me the Bills were about to integrate him more into the offense. Even the commentators brought up the conversations they had with Bills coaches last week about Palmer's deceptive speed.

Daquan Jones suffered a calf injury during warmups leaving us with 3 active DTs, one of them being Ed Oliver coming off injury. (Side note: Deonne Walker is going to be awesome!) 3 DT rotation against Bijan and Algier??? Yikes!

Bernard gets hurt mid game and exits.

McGovern gets hurt and comes back clearly still hobbled.

Plus we have 2 important defensive reinforcements coming in right after the bye and hopefully Hairston can play soon after.

Say whatever about our remaining schedule but none of these teams are that scary. The Bengals will probably still be starting Flacco and their D sucks. The Eagles (as stated) look like the NFC version of us.

Kansas City is, in reality, an inconsistent up and down team we're going to play at home and is the one team on our schedule this team doesn't look past. Yes they got players back, but they lost last week against the Jags with Worthy and it baffles my mind the way Rashee Rice is talked about as an Elite WR who will inevitably unlock their offense. The guy has played 20 NFL games and surpassed 100 yards a whopping 4 times. I'm not saying he won't be good and won't help, but the whole "uh oh!!! It's the high power Chiefs of 5 years ago!" is pretty ridiculous.

The Bucs and Steelers look good, but how much do we really think that lasts?

We aren't going undefeated after the bye, but who cares? January into (hopefully) February is all that matters. Just get there.

Take the bye, get healthy... take a breath.

6-3 after 9 games in 2023 and 2024 as well.  I agree take a breath.  We have things to fix and time to do it.

We need competent outside play. Defenses get to narrow the field, as well as crowd the line.

When things are going well its fine. If were going to win 3-4 playoff games against playoff defenses. We can not afford to roll out these current guys.

When things are rolling like yesterday its great, but you can not let a playoff defense take away 50% of the playing surface. Crowd the line... double Kincaid... commit most resources between hashes, and we become pedestrian quickly.

Even if the Olave , Shaheed, Addisons of the world aren't available, we need to bring in a guy thats competent on the outside.

Didn't both of our TEs catch deep balls on the outside?   Those were two of the most explosive plays of the came.   This isn't 1970 when blocking TEs only ran 5 yard routes.  It was good play design with TEs that can run like wide receivers.

  4. 4-2   I'm 52, its been much worse.  We have a bye followed by a game against Carolina.  Health and reinforcements (suspensions) are on the way.

Close your eyes for a second and look two weeks down the road,   Is it as bad as you think?

McD has never been able to "stop" people. They rely on either the O makes a mistake and you get a turnover. They will give up a few first downs but at some point there will be penalty and will stall a drive. There will be a drop or other mistake that kills a drive. Very rarely have we seen them be aggressive and just own the offense. That is not McD style. Its the they can dop whatever they want but at some point are gonna mess up.

Didn't we just stop the Dolphins?   But...it certainly doesn't happen enough

  6. Watching the game live, I felt like Drake Maye's knee might have been down on the 4th quarter play, right before the two minute warning, where he rolled right and hit Diggs for the big yard gain.  I have not seen any analysis on it.  I am not sure how he could get enough on the ball to complete the throw running that hard right, without hitting the knee to the ground to create whip.

Also, the play happened right before the two minute warning.  This was the very last play eligible for a challenge by the Bills.  When Daquan had him in his grasp, and Maye released the ball, he was 11 yards behind the line of scrimmage.  I know it was first down, but I was screaming for a challenge which I know could have likely cost a valuable timeout (w/o the benefit of hindsight).  But if he was ruled down, it would have put the Pats in a 2nd and 21.

Shout out to BuffaloBillies who reminded me that the knee doesn't have to be down, any part above the foot including shin could be down.

So, do you think it would have been good to challenge the call at that point and do you think he could/should have been ruled down?

Sorry I cannot post a link to the play.

Unlike Jim Kelly (stiff and playing to the camera), Josh is natural and unaffected in his delivery.

Seems very genuine and likeable in his video spots. Perfect pitch man.

I remember during his playing days, Tom Brady sacrificed some of his contract to keep the team within the cap and sign needed players for the Pats. Obviously, between his wife's bank and his own endorsements, Brady could have played for the minimum NFL wage and still been comfortable.

I don't know how much players like Josh and Mahomes make from the numerous endorsements, but I've wondered if making millions (I presume) promoting products is a major bonus that allows them to forfeit some of their playing contract so their team can retain talent.  Like Brady, Josh also has a wife with her own career wealth. She has an estimated net worth (according to one source) of $25 million.

I don't get the sense that money is high on the list of motivating factors in Josh's life.

When elite QBs get their big pay day after their rookie contracts are up, suddenly it creates all new challenges for the GM and bean counters trying to balance talent and the ledger together.

I won't be surprise if Josh makes financial concessions to the Bills in the coming years that will ease the cap burden and help keep the team intact.

Seems like a win-win scenario if that's the case.

i don't know that players make concessions.  What agent would want that.    Also, don't you think Kraft was kicking Brady money behind the scenes to stay off the cap.  If you know their ethics, you know this was being done.

  8. Didn't the end of the article say he bought it in 2021?  Shouldn't that make it a non issue?

Also it is a little crazy that a boat and the stadium are an either/or scenario for people.  He is worth 7 Billion.  He could afford three more stadiums and a handful of yachts if he wanted to.  The state made the agreement and I for one am glad they did.  The last stadium lasted 52 years.  If the new one lasts that long I am sure the state will recoup 850 million.

This is where i'm at.  I know there are limited savings even as a post 6/1 - but he's missed a ton of camp for the last 2 years, and was on the injury report 6x last year.  Had a couple of TDs in the playoffs but like 20+% of his catches came in the finale last year.

I think we might take a cap hit if we cut him.  You would have to add the hit plus what we would pay Davis.  Is that last spot worth all the money?

  10. It read more to me like he was trashing his own play on the Dolphins rather than the Dolphins overall.   Kind of not the best version of himself.

I do wonder why guys always say "just enjoying life and being with family" when asked what they are up to.  If you are open to playing again, why not just say I am up at 5 AM everyday working out in case you get a call because that is how you're wired".

Not that I really want to know but there's at least 3 different liquids I can imagine that you're talking about.

    Just an observation...

If you're saying that Elway was more of a sellout and that's why Kelly is more revered, I think you have to take into account other factors too.

    • Kelly married a local girl.
    • Kelly publicly fought for his son's life.
    • Kelly is a cancer survivor whose fight played out in public.

Those are all reasons why Kelly's revered around here.

Whether you agree or not, Elway won 2 Super Bowls, was arguably more photogenic than Kelly, and a better speaker, and thus had more opportunities as a pitch man.

I think that is the point.  Just because you have the opportunities doesn't mean you have to take every one.  It can sully your reputation.

Also you are assuming that Kelly didn't have opportunities however he may have and through against it.  I am hoping Josh takes that road but it is completely up to him.

  12. What is funny for me, is that the worse the Bills were, the more interested I was.   It was almost like subconsciously i believed they needed my help 😁

I was completely invested in draft analysis and all seven rounds of the draft as well as minute by minute with free agency.

Now that the Bills are good, and I trust our leadership, I am not nearly as tied to every single news blip.
