Lauletta isn't the kind of prospect a team would "target". You take a flyer on guys like him.
Leadership major in college. Our coach might like that

Don't hate me Joe :-) There is a rumor on another board that we are trading for Foles. Wouldn't a MLB at 12 be a good thing then?
Albeit Foles is not my first choice

I agree but if you can't get any farther, or the top 4 QBs are gone by 5 or 6. This is a great spot to get our 2nd biggest need

I think this switched to Tahir Whitehead. Here is a great scouting report on him as a free agent, not rookie. I liked him originally but now I don't see him as an upgrade to Humber.

How high will those 2 picks get us in the draft? We’re still behind the dolphins (who are rumored to love Baker Mayfield). Will Josh Allen fall? Is Lamer Jackson really an option?
12+22 + what gets us top 3? Which QB are we in love with? Or do we love more than one.
It may be likely but why is it a given that this move is to get in better position to trade up again for a top QB? 12 is exactly where Georgia Middle Linebacker Roquan Smith is supposed to go and the Bengals were a common spot he was mocked to. We have a defensive coach and MLB is the biggest need behind QB. Smith is also a leader and fits the McDermott player profile.
I know we all want a QB but just saying

Only 12 years too late. Don't get me started on the whole Donte Whitner thing. Still pissed at OBD for that idiotic pick, especially with Ngata right there, and Leinart still on the board for a trade down. You blew that one Marvcus.
You probably don't want to admit it but Whitner's college career and capabilities at the time justified the pick. The math they didn't do was how would his attitude be playing in a dysfunctional organization

You have to consider the big contract and recent injury history along with the talent. If he is healthy they are better off keeping him because he is a good player. He does not seem like a locker room problem type.
Good point here, not to mention what if Dawkins gets hurt? Can people envision what would happen there?
We have the cap room, have a good player under contract, why move him? For a 4th or 5th? Cap space? Cap space doesn't perform on the field.

Roquan Smith - Best LB in the draft. Instinctive, film junkie, 100% effort all of the time.
Harrison Phillips - A lunch pail guy who gives you 100% effort all the time and plays a position of need right now.
Tremaine Edmunds - Another athletically gifted LB who works hard and is very instinctive on the field.
I could go on with a few more, but don't have the time at the moment.
The top two here are givens. Edmunds is only 19 so I am not sure about him even though they said he came off mature in interviews. Unfortunately Roquan won't be around but I would not rule out a trade up for him if he lasts until 15 which he shouldn't.
A couple others I think you could add.
Marcus Davenport DE UTSA Size and pass rush skills for the DE spot, chip on the shoulder
Leighton Vander Esch DE Boise State - not my favorite and only a one year starter however he has size, attitude and coverage abilities we are lacking plus character
Baker Mayfield if they get past his immature mistakes, he has been described as a worker and a grinder which fits the model.

That was half of it.
The other half was when he looked into EJ's eyes and saw a winner, then proceeded to double down on him as the next franchise QB of the Bills. Those 2 mistakes should cost anyone their job; I said so for a long time back when Whaley was still the GM. It eventually caught up to him.
Whaley is straight up too dumb to be a GM in football; he was over his head.
I believe that was Buddy Nix's desperation parting move trying to leave the organization on the rise. I don't think you can pin that on Doug especially when he has been heard saying that his biggest mistake was not going out and getting a franchise QB.

If yo don't think Kraft will swing by his place with a brief case of cash to keep him in the fold (off the cap, just like Brady) you are crazy.
He will be on the field at least one more year

Apparently the Falcons walked through their actual playbook and, surprise, NE knew exactly which plays would be called in the clutch. I would assume same for Seattle. No question BB knew that final play would come in before it was even called.
I don't think Belichek knew that the Seahawks pass play was going to be called. Wilson wasn't even supposed to force it in. He was supposed to throw it away if it was not wide open. What Belichek and the Patriots players knew is that a pass interference call meant nothing so his guys were coached to be overly physical and it resulted in a turnover because Wilson forced it in. Let's not get carried away saying he knows what play the other team is going to run.

More pressing needs at:
DE(2)
DT(2)
CB
ILB
OLB
WR
QB
RB
Shouldn't draft for need anyway but if you do.........then G/C would only make sense if you have about a dozen picks in the first two rounds.
BPA at big money positions early. If you need a quality guard in free agency.......you can usually find one. If you need a pass rushing DE you almost certainly won't find one but if you do it will cost you twice what a guard does.
Drafting for need is how the Bills have almost nothing to show for those 17 straight missed-playoffs seasons.
I think it was drafting for scheme, not need, wasn't it?

It would have been up to the team to make the effort to to go beyond the X-Rays after the stingers. He continued to play the remainder of the season with no issues, so I don't think anything was amiss.
looks like the contract was done in late August so probably nothing there. If it were week 7 we might have an issue.

Isn't that what we are talking about? The team not scratching their head wondering why the player wants a new contract 6 weeks into the season? I think it will evolve that Wood and his agent may have fleeced Beane and Co. If they indeed did not do a proper physical that stinks

Was the team supposed to know in advance that he was going to sustain a career ending neck injury?
Maybe Wood knew. He just said he has stingers mid season and then he gets re upped. Seems pretty timely. Also look at the structure of the contract. 4.8 per year with a 4.33 mil bonus.
Are we sure Wood and his agent didn't know something? Beane may have been taken to the cleaners.

My vote is for Chris Brown. I want somebody who will put in the work. I didn't like Jones. He came off as a paycheck player with zero toughness - Murph used to mock him for it all the time. It was a terrible an uninspiring message.

No major concerns for me...Only move I question was signing Tolbert. I would hope that was more for his leadership and locker room presence than his running ability. WRs get a pass because the OC didn't have a system for Tyrod, and that Tyrod is below average at throwing the football.
I thought there was information out there that McD's wife and Tolbert's are best friends and their families are very close. How is that lost by those who call it a head scratcher.
-
I value draft picks as much as everyone else however the talent on our team is in our coach, not our rookie GM who has yet to prove anything. McD won in spite of Beane's roster moves IMO.
I don't think you scale back McD's roster to get one extra pick for an unproven GM.

Hated the pick when we took him. Hated the pick more when we found out his shoulder was a bum.
They can probably find find a cheaper, edge setting DE with a low draft pick (which is all we can expect back) so I get the move. Such a shame that our recent history is littered with wasted draft capital.
Why open the hole and use a draft pick to fill it the exact same way?

Says here that TT's cap hit would be $3.1mm if he's a post June 1st cut.
If you wait until June 1st you have to pay him the 6 mil bonus second day of the league year

Beane said I have seen "all the ones that matter" then said all the first rounders. I thought that was the most defining comment and should tell you exactly what we are going to do in Round 1 of the draft.

with that being said. this thread is literally filled with the bottom of the bin when it comes to posters on this board. an all star cast of "I told you so" posters or just crappy posters in general.
complete sludge in here.
Everyone is ready to move on from their QB if you have something better. But we don't

It was Dennison's play-calling.
It was Roman's system.
He didn't have any receivers.
His o-line didn't block for him.
He was playing hurt.
He's held to a higher standard because he's black.
Did I miss any?
Yes passing yards and rushing yards are not mutually exclusive. Same with passing TDs and Rushing TDs.

Who is the better bridge qb Tyrod or AJ McCarron?
in The Stadium Wall Archives

The pick at 65 is nice but not better than 2-4 more wins next season. The reality is Cap Space does not make plays and even if you have a ton of cap space free agents are hesitant to go to Buffalo and even more so if we post 6 wins next season with McCarron which is my projection.
Tyrod was the better bridge because we could continue to build and win games and he could also teach a rookie about hard work which wasn't a question with Tyrod.
