This is the sort of thing I have been saying since the moment we drafted him.

He is a perfect test case for old school "I know what I see" football people vs. new age data driven analysis.

The former loves his size, arm strength, and potential; the latter suggests he is highly unlikely to become even a serviceable NFL QB.

There is tremendous optimism for his success at this forum, but it is not rooted in persuasive data.  It is simply a function of many good Bills fans being beyond desperate to finally have a real QB.

    It's been a while.

Doesn't Wentz pass this same test?

    MNF 2007 Bills/Cowboys.    Never again.

This was the game for me too.  At Lodos in downtown Denver, the Bills Backers bar, I was slamming my hand on old banister so hard after the collapse that I am sure I broke my thumb.  I never had it X rayed and it went away months and months later but I am pretty sure I did some physical damage.   Nothing long term thankfully.

I think it would be incredibly stupid to give up on him so quick.

I think you are correct but look what GM we are talking about.

I hope all of the hype we have read about a new Shaq attitude is on target.  But he just looks so slow to me.  When he's in the game - it's like he's not even there.  He crushed one dude last year I think in Miami in the backfield.  But besides that, he's been a real snoozer.  First round picks who are good at "setting the edge".  Hmmm.  I don't think he makes it.  Sounds like he gets the fact that he could be out of the league.  Hope he makes it but he really looks like another Whaley failure.

So slow he tied for the team lead in sacks.  Hughes is way faster but usually falls into the close but no cigar territory.   Even though Hughes does get pressure.

  4. The common understanding of Analytics is that it is using any and all data.  Measuring and grabbing any data point to support an argument and trying to make sense of it is a poor approach.

McD has said in interviews that certain data is more important that other data.   As a Lean Six Sigma Master Black this is what I want to hear from a process oriented coach.   McD should be measuring HIS process, and identifying his key performance indicators (key measures).  Then executing to drive those  key numbers.

Based on my limited information on what McD is doing I think the Bills are going about it the correct way.   I just would like him to say "our process".   It is not as if there are no other coaching processes.   Everything is a process even if it is not documented - even Rex and the clowns before him had a processes, just not a good ones.

The word is that the Bills were in a bidding war at 7 with the Cardinals and that they both coveted Allen.   Whether or not you personally like Allen is besides the point and you have to throw out the draft chart if you are going after your franchise QB, specially considering that they were trying to target him at 5.   If you are going after someone at 5 and trading 2 2nds would have been a deal at that slot but now you are still targeting the same guy at 7 and now all of a sudden it's not a good "value"?  That's stupid.

They "overpaid" because they were about to lose him to the Cards.  If you believe that you could be getting your franchise QB and you trade away 2 2nds to get him along with a 1st rounder, I would say that is not too much to give up.

There is not proof of a bidding war.  That is just Buffalo Bills mentality of filling in blanks to make things look ideal for GM/Coach/Team.

It won't be long and you will hear about how the Arizona Cardinals coveted Josh Allen and how they were pissed about missing out on him.  Sure they will tell their fans that Josh Rosen is the guy they coveted, but the guy they wanted was Josh Allen.  I have 0 problem with Beane using #12 and the two 2nd round picks because that is the reason he acquired those picks, so NO ONE, including the Arizona Cardinals, could match him.  He even had an extra 1st if he needed to change things up and offer a different combo.  Beane mastered this draft and got his franchise QB.

There is no guarantee those #2s would pan out so I agree with the trade up.   Arizona wanting Allen is speculation only.

As for mastered the draft I would not go there.  Maybe he did well in the 1st round (if you like Allen) but a backup NT in round 3 was a bad pick and Beane failed to see the pick of Clemson's #1 WR the pick before us when we took their #3 WR as well as the fact that the Lions picked a highly rated OT we needed one pick before us in the 5th round  were big time errors.

  6. I had this thought this morning as well looking at the trade value chart.  We owe the Rams a punch in the nose just for this being a possibility.

I am not sure Rosen would be there guy and I hope he is not ours unless he falls all the way to 12.   How do you think Belichek would do with a rookie QB who wants every one of his questions answered before he does his job?

Also the Pats have holes at QB and CB to fill.    Even though the traditional draft chart says they can get to #9 with their first round picks that won't hold up this year.   We for one have too much ammo.

    So the opposite of Whaley....

So we have already crowned Beane a genius before he selects one player?  I think the tune will change when he hits on only 40% of his picks (like all GMs) and we realize he traded away talent for chance.  The best thing Beane has going for him is that he has a great coach.

it is foolish to think that there won't be growing pains with a rookie GM

  8. If you are a non believer in Lauletta review the combine throwing sessions.  As far as accuracy and are strength I had him only behind Mayfield.

Also he is going go day two so not a late round prospect.  Do the research, he is a better prospect than Josh Allen

In my perfect world we get Mayfield between picks 6 to 12 if not I would be happy with Lauletta late in the 2nd or 3rd.
