Are you competitive with holiday themed office/family games?
Augie replied to Another Fan's topic in Off the Wall
We had a holiday party at friend’s last Friday. They played a game where you have to unravel a soccer ball size clump of cling wrap. There is a rushed timing aspect, and you can win prizes along the way. Stuff I don’t want falls out of the Saran Wrap layer by layer. You have to find the edge and unwrap, you can’t tear it. I know, sounds odd. I hate games like that. I just don’t care, but we managed to have a very good time with a lot of laughing. It was more about the people we were with. EDIT: Tonight my son was here for dinner and they both put together a cling wrap ball to use when my BIL, his wife and 3 daughters come for a Holiday Day Trip on Friday. I don’t look forward to the game, it’s not a meaningful competition in ANY WAY, but I look forward to laughing with them. It’s a win/win, as my wife had a blast with our son making this giant ball of nothing very good. 😂 . -
I find it’s usually pages of coupons or the wipes they used to “sanitize” the cart. I have no desire for your trash. Throw your crap in the garbage can! I start with an empty cart, and I leave an empty cart. I like to grab a trash free cart in the parking lot and test drive it in. There are times you find a wobbly wheel or something, so then I will swap it out. Why do some people abandon their carts in haphazard fashion to go off looking for something? Take the cart with you, or move it off to the side so it’s NOT blocking traffic for the rest of us! Incredibly selfish and inconsiderate!

Not unless things go REALLY WRONG!!!

How about we move it to Orchard Park? It only seems fitting. 😋 EDIT: I kid, for anyone wondering. The NFL does not stop for cold. .

I remember early in the year when some people were saying we need to run the ball more successfully and consistently, while other people were saying there was no need. We were blowing teams out early in the season, but the arrival of winter should not be a surprise to anyone. Duh. I hope we can turn it on this year, but that has to be a priority (again) going into next season. They drafted Cook and traded for Hines, and they signed some FA OLine. It wasn’t enough. We will always be a passing team with Josh, but we need balance to get to the top of the mountain.

I still remember my first time.

Snowballs - fair game if aimed at Dolphins bench?

A bunch of drunken Nathan Peterman’s 20 rows back thinking they have Josh Allen arms. DUCK!!! INCOMING!!! -
Snowballs - fair game if aimed at Dolphins bench?
Augie replied to Clark Rotary's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m quoting this because…..I can! It’s easier than typing it. 😋 I wonder is some people are thinking of this as soft, fluffy snow. Snowballs range from cold wet cotton balls to ice hard hammers. Either way, it’s just wrong. Does anyone else remember a game, I think it was the Giants, where they got pics of people who were throwing snowballs. They tracked them down and took action. Some minor charge and “banned from the stadium.” I wouldn’t mind that. -
You might be able to get a ticket on the cheap! 😋

When I hear over-hyped I think of the Cowboys and the Lakers. Please stop! Maybe just for a week? As others have said, we are good but not great. Just like the Chefs. Who overcomes the shortcomings to hold up the trophy? THAT is the question.

This made me think of what they would do to the ‘72 Dolphins. That thought made me laugh! We’ve come a LONG way! That would be like a Maserati vs a Model T.
-
That might be because they stop the game if lightning is a threat. Possibly a factor there. In that case they take players off the field because, well…….they could DIE! .
-
Korey Stringer’s family would point out how quickly we forget. I know, it wasn’t in a game in front of the world, and it was years ago, but the same principles apply. You can DIE from that heat! EDIT: We are also a different society now, for better or for worse. .

A few years ago my cable provider dropped NFLN, and no, my bill did NOT go down. Shocking! I still keep DTV Dish to get NFLN (Sunday Ticket) as it’s still on DTV with dish, while DTV Streaming does not get it. Go figure. And yes, we spend WAY too much for TV.

Week 15: Dolphins at Bills on Saturday Night Football
Augie replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’d prefer to pummel him, but not badly enough to knock him out of the game. I want him in there throwing sloppy passes all over the field with multiple picks. Keep him out there, far away from the heaters! Yeah, it snows in Alabama too, alright. Welcome to Buffalo in December! I want Groot and the Gang to play with him, like a cat plays with a mouse! -
If the barber has the hiccups, you should wait for another day.

Is that what Fitzy is wearing when he takes his shirt off? He seems to have a built-in “base layer”.

Mine was years ago, but it was similar I’m sure. We were rotating OL so they didn’t pass out. After that I learned to turn down free tix in FL early in the season. There’s a good reason they were free! EDIT: The hot one for me in Jax was the first season with Marcus Stroud after he spent years in Jacksonville. He said it was the hottest game he ever played in. It was BRUTAL! .
-
I think eventually they said “screw it, try to fine us if you want”. They did rig up some stuff eventually, sadly it was too little too late or we’d have won that game. That was one for the ages. I was at a game like that in Jax, and I thought we might die in the stands. We watched on little monitors over concession stands in the shade and AC of the club area.

For the people who complain about people living along the coast in hurricane territory, this is another issue worth noting. We have millions of people moving to desert areas. We have taken the helicopter out of Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon a couple times. The pilot mentioned that humidity had roughly doubled with the development of golf courses and developments filled with mansions and their swimming pools. Humidity, after doubling, was still only about 6% on average. That is SIX PERCENT HUMIDITY! Know why? It’s a freakin’ DESERT! We came from Florida where 96% was common. I didn’t know 6% was even possible. The lake is mostly dirt at this point. The difference between what is “natural” and the green golf course communities surrounded by blue pools is absolutely stunning, and not in a good way. So, how long is this sustainable? When does the dust hit the fan? .

I played sports all my life, but much of it was casual pick-up stuff. Kids don’t do that now. By the time they were 10 they played in more games with uniforms and refs than I did my entire life, including my college rugby career. It’s just not the same.
-
If you have to worry about that, you are not “all that”. I swear I don’t mean that in a bad way, but some fringe kids need the extra work and allegiance from the coach for their dedication. [Hyperbole Warning] If you are Lebron James you just show up and you can play wherever you want. Tight end? Sure! Run yourself out there! Only 1% gets near the top, and far fewer get TO the top. Have a plan. If you need a free ride to college, you do what you can. But have no dreams of grandeur. I had a dad I knew (and generally liked) tell me “these people are here to see him, like Lebron”. He was good, but not all that. Nice career at Wake Forest. It will go away eventually. Do the right thing for the long term.

Well, here we are with taco meat, and me with no appetite whatsoever!

Our kids didn’t play football until high school. They played EVERYTHING else. Soccer and basketball are great for the feet, weightlifting to make them stronger for every sport, baseball to teach them that even a “sport” can be boring (sorry, that was for @Gugny!), golf and tennis teach mental aspects, etc. Good athletes benefit from a variety of sports, IMO. The baseball guys wanted 12 months of baseball in FL. They said he’d fall behind, but we played other sports and they were begging for him the next season. They were just fine without playing at a young age. The youngest as a senior was POY in his conference, recruited by small schools and was 1st Team All Area despite Manatee High up the road being the #1 HS team in the country that year. No need to play too soon in my opinion. .
