  1. I'm beginning to think that the best thing for this team is to tank and get a top pick and hope to get lucky on a franchise quarterback. No other sport has a more important individual position quite like the quarterback position in football. Take Cincinnati, for example. Dalton is a franchise QB. That team has long had an average offensive line, average secondary, average special teams, average defensive line, and average coaching. However, Dalton is 46-23-1. He covers up a multitude of deficiencies. We are that one player away from being relevant. At this point, I don't think any Jaguars (Bortles) Titans (Marriota) Panthers (Newton) Vikings (Bridgewater) Buccaneers (Winston) or even the Dophins (Tannehill) fans would trade rosters with us because those 6 teams are worse than us in many other areas except for the most important position, QB. Not the closer position in baseball, the cleanup hitter in baseball, a dominating starting pitcher in baseball, a goalie in hockey, a stud defense-man in hockey, a center in basketball, a point guard in basketball, a shooting guard in basketball - is as important as that one position in football. Not having a viable starter that is poised and accurate has made being a Bills fan so disappointing for the past 15 years. Our quarterback situation has been in the bottom 1/4 of the league for almost 20 years. Not since Bledsoe have we even had an arm to get excited about - and he never even led us to the playoffs here.
  2. This is ludicrous...a real conspiracy theory. Trust me, the officials are not paid off and they are not "in on" any broader scheme. I know TONS of basketball (although not football) officials, at all levels. They have a lot of integrity, and work very hard to get where they are. The amount of work that they put in to attempt to get calls right is far more than the average fan thinks. As far as Belichick's 1990 Giants team, Norwood did a poor Vinatieri impression or that outcome is different. If we didn't give up a third and ridiculously long to Dave Meggett on the drive before we got the ball back - we have more time to win that game and it doesn't end up being such a long field goal. That was NOT because of the refs.
  3. I was up early, watched most of the Dolphins/Jets game - gave a lot of serious thought about the AFC East standings, etc... then...I was religiously and patriotically pumped up at the start of the Bills game. By halftime - I was a frustrated, irritated bundle of nerves. It was an all too familiar feeling - I call it my "Bills game anxiety". Because I had it on DVR - I left the house at half-time - went outside with my girlfriend, went for a run, headed to the park and played catch with our football (beautiful brisk day on Boston) and felt much better. I came home with a whole different perspective. The old me would have stayed in, drank more, put on talk radio just to listen to the Rex bashers, and been miserable the remainder of the day. It's taken 15 years, but I'm finally maturing about the Bills (and the bad results) enough that I'm making a conscious effort not to let it ruin my whole Sunday and the start of my week anymore. Part of that comes from recognizing that the outcomes are completely out of my control. Also, at times - it's as if we as fans care FAR MORE than the millionaire players do about the score. None of those players even know who I am or even care that last year...I flew to Houston to watch Marrone lay an egg. That this year, I'll fly to KC to watch them play there. The more I watch, the more that I believe that most of the players don't care what the score is or even care how they are perceived as a team. That's evident in the ridiculous number of penalties.
  4. I don't think we need to re-sign Incognito. Yes, he's been a nice player, but he's 35. Perhaps he'd be willing to stay for a workable salary, but I don't think we should overpay for him - and...I think he will want to take a shot at testing the market and getting one more pay day.
  5. The Miami fans actually have a Bills look alike contest going on....I think they missed badly on Eric Wood but they nailed some others... all in good fun: http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?87171-**-Official-week-3-Buffalo-Bills-Look-a-like-Thread-**&s=ba4ac26bd1104ece5542d78d593b564e
  6. It was 22 years ago on Sunday (a game that irritated me so badly) - when Brian Cox (Miami linebacker) flipped off the Rich Stadium crowd....and the fish beat the Bills 22-13. Hated that guy....I'm guessing that Suh is gonna be our Brian Cox of this era.
  7. Doug Marrone said...and I quote: "The best four letter word in the dictionary is punt"
  8. That's right! Well said. Fred should not feel slighted - got a sweet contract then was injured for some of it. Next an up, best player plays, salary gets cut...the rest is whining.
  9. Belichick: "We did cheat, unless cheating was wrong, then we didn't cheat. No, wait...I just misunderstood the rule. I didn't think it was cheating" haha

  11. If anything, I think all of the negative press about cheating scandals and the like - makes the games MORE interesting to watch. Not that you want your favorite pastime (fandom) to be relegated to tabloid fodder or reality TV (I don't think it's that bad...yet) but I do think the "game within a game" is interesting. If anything, Mike Tomlin is more focused on getting revenge now. That's good for the Steelers and everyone else. Not to mention, teams are going to sageguard their playbooks, signals, etc....very closely now with much suspicion - and that should make the Pats less successful.
  12. That's why it makes the MOST sense to spend money on a pass rush. If you don't have one of the 1-8 QB's in the league, you better be able to pressure theirs.
  13. The problem is....Cutler is not a former Duck. Chip only likes former Ducks.
  14. We were near the top of the league in rushing in our glory years.
  15. Marry one, kill one, bleep one...and...go (Step Brothers)
  16. Looks like mid 50's during the day and 30's at night - I think it would have been better for Buffalo if it was sub-zero with some wind
  17. I've played pickup basketball with Flutie at the YMCA in Natick. He is NOT anywhere close to 5 foot 10 - he's 5 foot 8 tops.
  18. I was at the game on Sunday and watched the body language of the receivers. They have had it. We should have seen the handwriting on the wall when he wasn't picked as a captain. Another frustrating part of his overall game is that he is a running quarterback with some moves and speed. However, call it fear, inexperience, poor coaching...whatever - he seems relegated to stay in the pocket no matter what happens. If it isn't a zone option read, he doesn't move.
  19. It will be a miserable afternoon - I'm heading to Houston for the game and going to the game with family that live right downtown...should be a stevestojan show for sure.
  20. We have EJ and Sammy together now...we will never punt...
  21. Probably the most reasonable and intelligent post I've ever read on here....especially amid all of the hysteria, overreactions, and jumping to conclusions on this board. What the Bills are building is stability. They are indeed going in the right direction. Reminds me of My Cousin Vinny: Vinny Gambini: I object to this witness being called at this time. We've been given no prior notice he'd testify. No discovery of any tests he's conducted or reports he's prepared. And as the court is aware, the defense is entitled to advance notice of any witness who will testify, particularly to those who will give scientific evidence, so that we can properly prepare for cross-examination, as well as to give the defense an opportunity to have the witness's reports reviewed by a defense expert, who might then be in a position to contradict the veracity of his conclusions. Judge Chamberlain Haller: That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out objection. Vinny Gambini: Thank you, Your Honor. Judge Chamberlain Haller: [firm tone] Overruled.
