  1. That all makes sense although we were led to believe by our media the Bills D was just a continuation of Pettine's scheme from last year. Then I watched them closely for the first time and looks so different. I think some of our outside LBs are DEs trying to fit into a 3-4 scheme. Also we lack depth which seems to be in abundance in Buffalo. One week Kruger and Sheard will be all over the place, the next week they look worn out. These guys are on the field every down and they aren't "every down" LBs. We drafted Christian Kirksey from Iowa to be a ILB and kind of eventually replace Dansby. He has been pretty good but Dansby is a big loss. We also seemed to be able to stop the run much better when Phil Taylor was in. Fortuntely I think Pettine can coach guys up to play above their talent. Its so disappointing to have traded up for Justin Gilbert at 8 and passed on all those stud WRs, only to have Gilbert ride the pine.
  2. Vick? I agree. The Bills seem to be the grim reaper of QBs. I remember that! Philbin was going to bench him after that game, then he bounced back.
  3. Thank you everyone. I appreciate this info. I remain hopeful! I never expected the Browns to even be in the playoff hunt, so I need to remind myself of that! Since you guys have seen both... why do you think the Browns D (Pettine's scheme) is so weak against the run? I was watching Buffalo's defense and it seems like (someone was discussing this at the party I was at) they run a lot of stunts with the front 4 but basically say "come and get us" and nothing too tricky. And they don't give up the edge. Whereas the Browns are trying to surprise the offense with disguises. It results in turnovers sometimes but can really hurt with giving up 3rd down/long drives. If the team can run then you can't get the ball back when you are trailing. Is it a talent issue with the Browns (we have some injuries on D) where we just don't have the same level of players or the right players for the scheme, or a result of Pettine/O'Neil's scheme?
  4. Manziel gives us some hope. But there is always a learning curve for rookies, and we go up against the Colts this week. Then we have 3 division games. It is a very tough road. Hope he shows something to keep hope alive!
  5. Really good roster. What I would not give for a Robert Woods or just ONE of your safeties, DEs or DTs on the Brownies! I'd love Watkins obviously but I am trying to get over that we passed on him and would be Ok with Woods.
  6. There are no AFC playoff contenders getting worse QB play than Cleveland and Cincy. Just wait for the implosion.
  7. Thanks guys. It was the best team we played all year. And your stadium (although I could not afford to go I had friends who went) sounded like it was very intimidating. I know you are entering the "gated community" of NFL teams on your schedule coming up, but you sure have some elite players to build on. I was wondering about the hit from 53 (?) on Barnidge. Usually a personal foul? Oh well, it wasn't our day I guess. When Haden blocked the FG before the half I really thought that was a sign and then the Bills throw an INT on first possession of 2nd half! There was a sack on Hoyer (and he almost never gets sacked) that took them out of FG range and the game was over after that. Huge momentum swing.
  8. Congrats, Bills fans! So much for our playoff hopes and our top 10 offense. It was fun while it lasted, but "same old Browns." Josh Gordon looked really lazy running his routes and you would think his head would be in the game with the amount of targets he had. Apparently according to our coaches, your defense was doing some things to confuse him. Joe Thomas was horrendous. I know you have a good front 4 but the only guy before Jerry Hughes I've seen him have that kind of problem with is Dwight Freeney. With a speed guy rushing the passer on every play JT can't contain him. I was surprised the Bills didn't run the ball more in the 1st half. We have a good passing D and bad run D. Do the Bills bench QBs as their job? Do you always hit that hard? Man. Austin out. Barnidge out. Our rookie RBs were lost. They can't block and they couldn't get anything going. Donte Whitner - Thanks for firing up the other team with your mouth and then not even freaking showing up. Pissed about this! Pettine still hasn't made a decision on QB and Hoyer was making all kinds of excuses as to why he didn't have a good game. Fun week in Cleveland! Good luck the rest of the season.
  9. I have been Team Hoyer from the beginning, and the word is Johnny is not ready. But the elephant in the room is that Hoyer has looked bad in the last two games. But because we ended up winning the last one, most people are holding off on wanting a change.I am worried about him, but he's our best option at this point. IF we can't run the ball effectively, this game will be a big test for him.
  10. The Bortles comparison is funny to me as a Browns fan because we lost to him, but we made Dalton look 3rd string.
  11. That is exactly who he is. I think he was butt hurt that Watkins didn't mention his name, or know that he was with the Browns. How would he know/why would he care? Whitner is very insecure. I believe that one big reason he signed here is because he knew he would be like teflon having grown up in Cleveland, and played at OSU. He is pretty much immune from criticism for that reason. He can't take it. He also needs to be noticed.
  12. I don't think Miami or Kansas City has a better offense than Cleveland - do you? Hoyer actually throws the ball deep. Also it seemed like they were able to run the ball, which is what the Browns really need to do.
  13. Bengals fans don't care about making the playoffs. They would like to actually compete in the playoffs at some point. He fails to show up every time.
  14. Its OK. Sammy Watkins loves to make defenders from Ohio State look like they don't belong on the same field. Then he can take it to Bradley Roby next week - unless Roby fakes an injury again. Whitner is putting his teammates in a bad position for what he pulled in the offseason.
  15. Aim higher unless you are OK with a QB who routinely overthrowns wide.open. receivers. He's a chronic underachiever.
  16. I've actually heard rumors of the Browns going after him after Hoyer leaves. Which makes little sense because of the Shanahan connection.
  17. I don't think any team or coach has the ability to think this way about any team. As soon as you do, you get beat. It's not like college where the talent disparity can be really wide between teams. I don't think Belichik looks at any team as "irrelevant." Whether or not their fans do is a different story, but also doesn't matter.
  18. Stats are for losers. Losers like Dalton. He has entire games where he doesn't even show up.
  19. Whitner was the one talking trash, not the Bills. I don't think so. The Browns overpaid. They could have just kept TJ Ward for that money.
  20. I'm a Browns fan but I think this will be a close game. Browns offense has a ton of playmakers. West and Crowell and really explosive young RBs. The WR corp has been much better than expected. Hoyer hasn't been very good though lately, so he will need to play very well to get them the ball especially if they don't control the ground game. The OL has been inconsistent. This game is really the turning point in the Browns season. Their schedule gets pretty hard after this. I think they expect to win, and if they don't they aren't out of it but it will be demoralizing as we face 3 division games and the Colts. The Panthers should be a W. I don't think Pettine particularly likes Gordon and I don't think either he or Cameron will be on the team next year. Cameron was disappointing even before he got hurt, will be a FA, and will want more than Browns think he's worth. Gordon is lazy and Pettine called him out repeatedly in camp. I think they would trade him for a good offer. He's not a leader or good teammate nor does he work hard or seem to understand what it takes to win. He is the polar opposite of the type of player Pettine seems to want. He didn't even list him as a starter last week. Which was funny. I hope his effort improves this week.
