  1. Or maybe we (shock!) actually missed Edmunds? Seems to me that the big runs - particularly Hall's from deep in Jets territory - happened when everyone was pursuing the ball and not keeping contain. Edmunds was big, fast, not ultra aggressive, and in a weird way maybe complemented the playmakers (Rousseau, Milano, Von if he's playing, Poyer/Hyde) that we do have. Unpopular opinion I know ... EDIT: so while I'm at it with the unpopular opinions ... Jets deep within their own territory. Zach Wilson at QB. I'm not too concerned about them taking it 90+ yards for a TD! The focus shouldn't just be on stopping them from getting the 1st down. A first down hurts and you lose the advantage of the superb field position. But it's hardly a killer. A killer is a big play from a generally inept (with Zach) offense, an offense that really seems incapable of engineering a sustained drive of 90 yards, or even 60 yards to get in FG position. Leslie Frazier wouldn't have let this happen! (Haha)
  2. I can't remember the down and distance on that long run. How many did we have in the box? Seems like we were more lined up to do everything to stop a first-down run, unafraid of Wilson throwing, and that as soon as Hall got past the line he was gone.
  3. Agreed. Hall was taking it all the way the the end zone but he got winded.
  4. McBeane's thinking: - Running Backs are fungible. It is now common wisdom that you don't overdraft/overpay a running back. - Singletary was a fine player but lacked speed to get outside - We can compensate for that by bringing in a specialty back/receiver or three who can get outside on pitches, screens, etc. McKenzie, Cook, Hines, Harty. - The combination of more of a battering ram inside runner (Harris, Murray) and a couple of the speed guys will be better than Singletary So far? No. One excellent back (Breece Hall) > RB by Committee.
  5. Yeah, it was kind of a fun story … can he finally get the Jets over the hump. Would have been interesting to watch it play out. Now he’s just another guy who didn’t know when to walk away.
  6. I’d love it! Not gonna happen, but I’d love it.
  7. That was the weird part. I thought Harris was going to get significant carries. Running Cook between the tackles makes me cringe.
  8. OK, I get it. for me it’s just a shorthand way of saying low risk (like a punt), high potential reward (long TD pass)
  9. Beane: Breece Hall was on the board when we took Kair Elam. One of those guys was more responsible than anyone else for the W. One was a healthy inactive.
  10. Just because that will never, ever happen.
  11. But you’re acting as if there’s no potential reward in taking a deep shot. Even if there’s a 20 percent chance of success, that’s a 20 percent chance of 50 yards and 6 points. Of course the obvious problem tonight is that Diggs just wasn’t open. He’s really really good but he’s not Tyreek.
  12. Josh is reminding me of Brett Favre again. Which isn’t who we want him to be, but who does have a Super Bowl ring … There was a span of games where the short precision passing game was clicking in both 2021 and 2022. What happened?
  13. Well, yes. I was pointing out that it is situational. If it’s a down and distance that’s likely out of reach, take a chance. 3rd and 8 should be very doable to todays NFL.
  14. You did not really just say that. (but it will make me look back to see whether it’s true …)
  15. Excellent point. A 3rd and 20 deep shot is no big deal - chances of converting a 1st are low and unless there’s a big return it’s effectively a quick kick punt. But you can’t give up 2 downs like that
  16. I like the fact that he owned it - this L is one me. But that air of resignation was weird. It wasn’t the old cocky “I screwed up, I’m gonna fix it.” It was more of “this just ain’t working.”
  17. I had no idea why he did that. That was just handing the Jets 3 points. You might do that against Chiefs and Mahomes, but this is the Jets and Wilson. Bizarre.
  18. Case Keenum wins this game by throwing for 150 yards. Maybe even Kyle Allen. Any basic game manager. But hero ball is back!
  19. 1. Tale of box score: Bills 314 total yards. Jets: 289. Wow. Almost even with Zach Wilson at QB. 2 Breece Hall Please. 3. Jets are now obviously more talented overall other than QB. Rodgers promised to partly close that gap. That won’t happen. But still … more talented overall.
  20. I knew that was coming. Just didn’t think it’d be Week 1
  21. At least Brett Favre was on the field till the end. Maybe in 2036 they’ll bring in Jordan Love to take over at QB.
  22. He played like a rookie. The first INT? Meh. It was better than a punt. The second? Inexcusable. He’s gotta know the situation. You are now playing the Zach Wilson Jets, not Aaron Rodgers. Allen should have been more conservative than usual. Instead he tried to force the action for no good reason.
