  1. "Deep State" is a dirty word for a lot of posters here. To me, it really means nothing more than a government of laws, not of men. Everyone responsible for issuing a policy document or legal opinion should first ask, "What happens when the shoe is on the other foot and we're no longer the party in power." But such concerns were never taken into account by the Trump Administration. It'll come back to bite them.
  2. That was symptomatic of the entire night. As soon as Rodgers went down, the game plan - offense and defense - needed to take that into account. There was no reason to believe that the Jets would hit even 20 points with Wilson at QB, and of course they only made it to 16 in regulation, with an assist from Josh Allen
  3. Well, results wise. But c'mon, that was perfectly defended and a Wilson made a circus catch that will make highlight reels for years to come. I was very impressed with his coverage last night. He looked to finally be back to pre-injury form, although he may have shied away from contact a bit on tackling?
  4. They don't have great straight line speed, but they have some shifty moves.
  5. Typically the reporter will ask "do you mind if I record this?" That's the standard.
  6. Such a shame. 😁 I actually don't hate the Jets. They're not the Pats. They're kind of ... us? I mean, as long as it isn't at the Bills expense I'd like to see their fans share in a little success. For whatever (AFL/AFC I guess) reason I always wanted them to be New York's #1 team. Whatever. Good to have them out of the way until they bring in their next old QB. They are now officially in Colts 2018-21 territory. I see zero reason to blame the turf. His leg slid on the wet turf just as it would've on wet grass/mud.
  7. From the NYT official story: There was hope that could change this season after Rodgers was acquired in an April trade in exchange for draft picks. His long career has put him in the top 10 of many passing categories, he has won four Most Valuable Player Awards, and in the 2010 season he took the Packers to their only Super Bowl victory of this century. The fit seemed good: Rodgers threw himself into the life of the city, turning up at the Tony Awards, Knicks and Rangers games, the U.S. Open, and a Taylor Swift concert at MetLife. That's all well and good, going to the Tony Awards, Taylor Swift, Knicks and Rangers games. Did he do all the additional stretching/conditioning a 39 year old should be doing? Calf strain to torn Achilles ... https://wisportsheroics.com/aaron-rodgers-new-york-jets-training-methods/ He blamed the Jets training regimen for the calf strain, saying they had him doing things he hadn't done for 19 years. So maybe the Jets broke him, or maybe he should've started integrating additional conditioning into his off-season as he got old? Was there time for that with all the dark house sitting, celeb dating, psychedelic mind resetting?
  8. Not that I recall. Excellent in pass coverage, weak in tackling. Like so many other "shutdown CBs?"
  9. When you look more closely at this, it is simply McCarthy rebranding the ongoing House investigations into Hunter as an "impeachment Inquiry. Hey, whatever it takes to get Marge and Lauren and their ilk to pass a budget resolution.
  10. Read what I said that started this whole sub-discussion. I said we are on the wrong track with respect to public health measures to lower the spread of any future COVID strain OR any other respiratory virus. We are focusing on masks even though there is little evidence that they work at all, and we are ignoring air turnover rates and improved HVAC systems, which have been shown to play a vital role in reducing transmission. I will not wear a mask unless required to do so, or unless I know I'm infected with a respiratory virus (so as to be a good citizen). I'm not even sure if I count as up-to-date on COVID boosters. When the next one becomes available I'll probably get it, just as I get an annual flu vaccine. Neither will provide perfect protection, but the risk-reward calculus says it would be prudent to do so. I think this just might be a more intelligent, reasoned approach than saying "pandemic! Conspiracy!" In addition to my rant about how we haven't learned from COVID and spent money on HVAC infrastructure, let me add this: we haven't done enough on impressing on the public that obesity is a huge problem in general, and a specific problem when it comes to susceptibility to severe COVID or other respiratory viruses. Example: Donald John Trump.
  11. That says it all.
  12. I'm saying that "natural immunity" and vaccines are not mutually exclusive. I am willing to listen to arguments about whether it is optimal for the entire population to be vaccinated as opposed to various subsets of the population. But the Luddite (look that one up!) reference to "gene therapy" and the fear of scientific advance causes you to lose all credibility. Has someone with a modicum of sense hijacked Tarheel's account?
  13. Hey, you said the stupid thing about trusting "natural immunity." And the stupider thing conflating vaccines with "gene therapy." And the stupidest of all things claiming that COVID was all about political control. So keep laughing you A off at your own silliness.
  14. Well it'd be easier if your writing were clearer ... But I think I got it anyway
  15. So your theory of why the COVID vaccine is bad is based on a political conspiracy theory. Got it.
  16. Old natural immunity stopped smallpox in its tracks after it killed off about a third or more of the population where it gained a foothold. I guess that's one meaning of "efficiency."
  17. Agreed. I'm on record here as saying that the investigations of Hunter and what role Joe Biden played in his dealings is both necessary and appropriate. And that should continue. Officially sliding this into an "impeachment Inquiry" is neither necessary or appropriate at this time. It may be in the future, but not now.
  18. What you are talking about is not "gene therapy."
  19. Non-political point (really). Since Summer 2020, we've had really good information showing that air circulation is key to stopping the spread. Outdoor events are generally safe. Crowded sardine-packed commercial airplanes are safe given the high air turnover rates. And many, many other examples. So as a country did we sink a lot of spending into improving HVAC systems in our schools? Or even adding multiple air purifier units to classrooms? Not that I know of. I know in my workplace (where I do typically deal with crowded indoor rooms) I had to buy my own air purifier. I bought one; the guidelines I followed said I should really have two. I was never reimbursed, but I was told to make sure everyone is masked, which we know is generally less effective than good air turnover rates. Our political system is broken. We faced a crisis. We have good data about what worked/didn't work during that crisis. We are ignoring that and acting as if we've learned absolutely nothing in the past 3 years.
  20. I doubt it too. It would just seem out of character for him. He's never been known as a blowhard, much less as a racist blowhard. Could I see him (or indeed any business owner) saying "my employees should just shut up and be glad they have a good job?" Sure. But the back to Africa stuff just doesn't ring true. We shall see.
  21. "Mr. Trotter raised complaints and concerns about this remark but no remedial action was taken." So he appears to be alleging that he included this quote in a complaint to the NFL poohbahs about what (he says) Pegula said. That would mean there's some evidence that at least he isn't bringing this forward for the first time now. That helps his case a bit, but it certainly doesn't prove that Pegula actually made this comment. We'd have to see what the NFL did with it. If they asked Pegula if he said this and he denied it then, I guess we're to the point where what all the other owners said they'd heard in the meeting is the key evidence. Cue that popcorn gif ...
  22. Ouch. We wouldn't want people to actually read what they've written before clicking "Post New Topic," now would we ...
  23. Ken Buck/R-CO used to be one of the really hardline Republicans in the House. I just heard that he expressed disapproval of the impeachment inquiry, and that the new Trumpist hard right is putting a full-court press on him. If they can't get a guy like him on board, this doesn't seem promising.
  24. Not so long ago everyone was talking about Mahomes getting frustrated by teams taking away the big play; he was trying to force it because he was tired of all those boring 11 play run/pass drives. For example: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/10/16/patrick-mahomes-chiefs-struggles/ He fixed it. Now, he did have Andy Reid. Can Ken Dorsey fix Allen? Ken Dorsey is no Andy Reid. I don't know yet whether Josh Allen is a Patrick Mahomes. Those are the big questions.
