  1. That'd be my plan except I'd just be looking for value in a QB pick. It would probably be 5th or later, but if the right guy was there in the 2nd or 3rd I wouldn't hesitate. I'm not sure how the Bills will have the QBs rated, but in this draft the only QB that might be a viable option as a value pick in the 2nd is Hundley and I don't think he'll make it to the Bills.
  2. Agreed. I think the only team that could possibly swing a trade to 2 for MM is Philly (and it would be tough). That's because they could include Foles in the package. No way does TEN come off of the second overall pick without a QB acquired somehow and I can't think of another viable way they get one. Maybe that's why TEN has been playing coy on MM. That or maybe they're trying to entice JAX to flip picks by feigning interest in their top target.
  3. This is a common belief, but I don't know why - and there seems to be precious little evidence to support the claim that EJ "will figure it out". Playing QB in the NFL is the most difficult thing in sports. EJ has the physical tools to be sure, but the mental part is so difficult virtually no one can project in that respect. I hope he does, but right now it is just wishful thinking. There is no way the Bills should put themselves into a position where he's the only viable option. Again, I'm not running him out of town and he deserves a chance to prove himself here, but it should be in a situation where there is legitimate competition. His opportunity to prove himself should come ipby way of a QB competition, not by being handed the starting job and seeing how it goes. If he can beat out a QB like Sanchez or Locker, then he's earned it. If not, he knows where the bench is. It's up to the Bills FO to get a guy like that on this roster. Then we will see what we have in him.
  4. Yup. Doesn't hurt to feign interest in a player or two that Jax might want though. See if you can drop a spot, get another pick and still get your guy. It probably won't work, but what's it hurt to try?
  5. I don't know how you can rip people for not giving Winston the respect he deserves and then turn around and overrate him just as much. I really like Winston as a prospect, but he's no Luck. Luck had the advantage of being at Stanford and working under David Shaw who is not only an exceptional coach, but also runs the closest thing to a pro system that exists in the NCAA. That answered some of the questions with him that are still outstanding with Winston. And then there are the numerous off the field issues that Luck didn't have. Is Winston a very, very good prospect with great upside? Yes. Is he near tear the level of Luck? No.
  6. It's funny. My first inclination was to post "That can't be right. Jimmy Clausen isn't even black." But I was afraid people wouldn't understand I was making the same point as you and take it as racist. Still, I think Winston's red flags are very different than Clausen's. I actually think he will do well in the NFL as long as he puts in the effort needed and stays clean off the field. While I admit that he isn't a sure thing, I'd take the chance on him.
  7. Nice house, but the decorating is awful. More money than taste.
  8. I suspect that the Rams are just trying to get Bradford's agent talking to QB-needy teams so that they can set the market for him. This is just an effort to get his contract demands down. Unless they get a very good offer I don't think they bite on a trade. Who's going to play QB is St. Louis if not Bradford?
  9. Trent Richardson has some of the worst vision I've ever seen in a RB. That is not hyperbole. There was a kid at Ohio State many years ago - Raymont Harris IIRC - who would only run to where the hole was supposed to be. If it was two feet to the side he'd run straight into the back of his lineman. His vision was worse. He also didn't have nearly the other physical skills TR has. TR's balance and ability to cut/change direction is phenomenal. Again, no hyperbole, some of the best I've ever seen. The problem is that he doesnt have much chance to use the skills that could make him special because he can't do one of the most rudimentary things required of a RB - quickly find the hole. Sadly, that's not a skill that can be developed much. You have it or you don't. All that said, Indy is obviously trying to loophole him here. They made a bad decision trading for him and are just trying whatever they can to get out of paying him that last $3M. Pretty crappy considering the circumstances, but I can't say that Irsay strikes me as a guy who thinks much beyond himself.
  10. Fred turns 34 on Friday. Love the guy, but 2015 has got to be his last year and this season there has to be another back splitting carries with him to keep him fresh. Add one RB this season and one next as his replacement.
  11. Sadly, I do. Locker is the only other decent FA option. I like him better than Sanchez as a QB, but the odds of him staying healthy are not good. And I'm being generous there. With Rex's history with him it makes a lot of sense to get Sanchez to Buffalo.
  12. With the scarcity of quality QBs in today's NFL teams need to fit their system to their QB, not the other way around.
  13. Well I live in Buffalo and saw the game at a bar. I saw quite a few fans celebrate Kiko injuring Hoyer, including the 3 guys next to me who were really whooping it up.
  14. I'm salivating over what that line would move to if the Bills can obtain an upgrade at QB.
  15. I agree that this is the common perception, but I think people are jumping the gun. I think Oakland saw enough out of Carr to give him more time to give him a chance to prove himself. He wasn't without his warts. But let's face it, what else is Oakland going to say right now? And what better narrative is there for the media to run with? Oakland isn't going to get a shot at Winston or Mariota this draft and Carr showed enough that they won't be looking to trade for a QB or sign one that thinks he can be a starter. They are going into the season doing the only thing they can and that's acting like Carr is their developing franchise QB. And maybe he will be, but that jury is still out. Another part of this equation that has to be considered is how bad Oakland's roster is from top to bottom. Mack aside, there isn't much help on that team for any QB so it is easy for fans and the media to pin any deficiencies on the team and give Carr a pass. That isn't without merit, but I am a "show me" guy. Carr isn't a FQB until he proves it and he's got quite a ways to go.
  16. It might be a matter of using moving as leverage for a new stadium - we've all seen that movie - but I think this is something else though. What makes the most sense is that it is a matter of heading off another team from moving to LA. Think about it this way: If I owned the San Diego Chargers aren't I scared of another team moving to LA and taking away a huge chunk - the Lion's share - of my fan base? I sure as heck am. And knowing that the NFL desperately wants a team in LA I have to assume that it is going to happen sooner or later. So wouldn't it make more sense to simply move the Chargers there? There is a sweet deal waiting there for me including a better stadium than I'd get in SD and I'd be smack dab in the middle of the largest single team market in the US. And the SD fans can still root for the team because we aren't moving far and will still be the only So. Cal. team. My only question would be: How soon can I make this happen?
  17. Michael Sam simply isn't that good. These threads get started because people think he might be a quality find. That's because they think the reason he doesn't have a job in the NFL is because of his sexual orientation (and the fact that it is known). But that's where people are wrong. His problem is that he just isn't a very good NFL player. That's due to his physical limitations of speed, strength and size. He was plenty good enough in those regards to excel in college and he played smart. But he just doesn't have the ability to play in the NFL. Teams would rather try to bring along a physical freak who might be good than a guy who doesn't ever have a chance to be more than ok. And if they did, there are plenty of players that fit that bill without the added media attention that comes with Sam.
  18. Jordan Cameron would be very nice, but word is that he wants to head to the West Coast (or as close to it as he can get) to be closer to his son.
  19. Agreed. It's virtually a certainty that TB picks Winston first overall. The upside of him as a player, their need at QB, the importance of the QB position and even his popularity in FL make it as close to a lock as possible. It's less certain than Indy picking Luck, but not by much. That's not to say that he is a sure thing or that his off the field garbage isn't a concern. He isn't and it certainly is. He's a very, very good on the field prospect however. If his character was on par with Mariotta's there would be no doubt of him going first overall. The media would play it up like they did with Luck and RG3, but there really wouldn't be a question in serious circles just like there wasn't with them. People can compare and debate Mariotta's and Winston's on-field abilities, skill sets, character and whatever else they'd like, but in this case it doesn't matter because Tampa Bay is the team picking first overall. The downside associated with not taking Winston is far greater than the downside of picking him up and having him bust. Tampa Bay fans would riot if they passed on Winston and Mariotta (the only other player that they really can take at one) would be forever compared to him. Unfairly too. Mariotta would never get a fair shake there unless he absolutely lit it up and Winston busted completely. But that would take a lot of time - years - and it would be very ugly in the meantime. Winston, on the other hand, will get a huge pass from that fanbase. Barring something major happening - which would mean a huge Winston screw up or revelation - it is a certainty he goes 1 overall to Tampa.
  20. Gresham was a promising prospect coming out of college, but he's been a total disappointment in Cincy - so much so that they drafted his replacement in 2013 when they took Eifert in the first round. I'd look elsewhere for TE help. Some team will give Gresham a shot to show something and I'd be okay with it if it was the Bills, but only as a flyer type signing. I want to see them address the void at TE with a proven talent (even if it isn't top teier) and a rookie with promise, be it on a relatively highly touted prospect in the 2nd or 3rd round or on a developmental type.
  21. I'm pretty sure the Colts are interested in every good (or better than good) defensive player in the league. And maybe some in the CFL. Their defense is putrid.
  22. Thanks. Sorry if I came off harshly. Kids were home from school today due to weather and I got to watch them. Been kinda crazy here.
  23. First, work on your reading comprehension. A lot. Then tell me how a full evaluation of Watkins can be done without a quality QB in place. I said he's still unproven due in large part to that. In my book he doesn't get credit for what he maybe possibly could have done with a quality QB until he actually does it. Sorry, I don't play pretend. He certainly might have it in him, but he hasn't proven it to me. Not yet. I'm not going to project and pretend he's done more than he has just because he's a Bill. If he was a Dolphin or a Jet I doubt he'd be getting pimped like he is around here (for the most part). I like his skill set and his big games, but nine games of 35 yards or less is a concern. Period. Maybe a lot of that was a combination of injury and QB play, but simply assuming that was the case is absurd. That's a long, thin limb.
  24. That was a nice response. Too often people only dig just far enough to support their point. My first thought after reading the OP was "What does he know about WRs other than Sammy?" But back to the question of what kind of year Sammy had. First, what was given up for him in terms of draft picks isn't in part of the equation. That's a sunk cost and he isn't at fault for any overpayment. That belongs in discussions about GMs. Sammy nearly had 1000 yards, which is very good. I like that. What I don't like is that he was inconsistent getting there (see link to game stats). He either lit it up or disappeared. Four games of 117 yards or more, but 9 games of 35 yards or less. The big games are encouraging, but the poor games are very concerning. Sure, better QB play should help and hopefully we see that. But I am not one to assume that everything was on the QB. I think the jury is out there. Better QB play (and OL play) will give him a chance to prove himself further and I hope he does. After the season I put him as a top 25 WR because that's what I think he earned. He has opportunity to be better and move up as long as the Bills get someone decent to throw him the ball. http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/16725/sammy-watkins
