No but you’d have raised your floor at a bargain price. You would have had less of a need at edge and you’d have had Shaq for less than he got. You could have still chased other options as well but wouldn’t have the hole that currently exists.
-
Maybe you’re right and the lack of edge talent in the draft plays into that as well. My question then is “IF the market determines he’s a $13M a year guy, why shouldn’t the Bills be the team to pay that?” They have a need at the position. They have the 3rd most cap space in the league. They have an avenue to cap savings at the position by releasing Murphy if they want. They know Shaq. He’s played well in the system. I just don’t understand why anyone thinks he shouldn’t be in the mix? The Bills should absolutely be in on him. That was an unpopular opinion on here at the time but some of us thought that was the play. It looks like a bargain now.

As good as CMC is, you aren’t paying that for a running back. No one is giving that!! The position value isn’t there. You could maybe get Kamara for a 2nd. You aren’t paying 2 1sts. The ONLY skill player that may get 2 1sts at this point is Michael Thomas. WR have way more value and I’m still not sure that price would be paid.

It can’t dry up fast!! That’s the point. The TV deals are about to renew and grow exponentially!! Live sports are the main driver keeping these networks afloat. There will be new online partners as well. The money grows every year because of that!! The cap is a percentage of that revenue. It is 1,000,000,000% going to continue to grow. They are adding 2 playoff games this year and up to 16 more regular season games shortly thereafter. It’s not complicated I promise. If anything now is the time to go the other way and buy. What looks questionable now will be an absolute bargain in 2022.

That’s about what I think he’s going to get. He feels like about a $10M a year guy.

Man, you are REALLY concerned about the contracts these guys are getting huh? Not sure how to make you comfortable with the idea that salaries escalate EVERY SINGLE YEAR with the CBA. The money the league makes grows each year. The player’s salaries are a percentage of that revenue. The new CBA even offers a higher percentage of the revenue (if it’s passed). The players will be getting 48.5% of that revenue. The league is shooting for $25B in revenue when their TV deals expire in 2021!! https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/2019/07/15/nfl-revenue-owners-players-billions/ Now we can talk about what’s a good investment and what’s a bad one but we certainly don’t need to worry about a couple million dollar overpayment having ANY impact on the team’s ability to do business. Stop looking at the raw number and look at the big picture. It’s 48.5% (or will be) of a rapidly rising overall revenue.

This team needs top end playmakers. Odell Beckham is ABSOLUTELY that and exactly what the Bills need. You have to take some chances to get over the top. The Bills had a deal in place for Antonio Brown last year and he’s an infinitely worse person. You don’t get a chance at guys like this often. Beckham makes the Bills a contender. We need to stop fearing talent and push the chips in. Windows don’t stay open long in this league. You need to role the dice sometimes and hope you’re right. The Chiefs have Tyreke Hill (WAY, WAY, WAY worse person). They also traded for Frank Clark (also a terrible person) and traded away Dee Ford. They made some ultra-aggressive decisions and won the Super Bowl. -

Yes please!! Add OBJ and the Bills are a legitimate Super Bowl threat. No questions asked, you make this move. -
I just went back to read the details of the Jones fight again. It’s pretty insane. The one judge said he scored the fight for the Korean fighter because he knew no one else would and he didn’t want to embarrass the host country!! Like, what?!? Pretty good read: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2012/feb/15/olympic-moments-roy-jones-jr

Redskins and Tua at pick 2 - Smokescreen or real?

I could see it. If this happens this draft gets drunk pretty early. Young goes to the Lions at 3. Someone trades up in front of Miami (or Miami trades to 4) to get Herbert. -

The Seahawks promised him that they wouldn’t. I guess that they still could but that would be a bad look for them. -

Um, yes they do!! With that being said I don’t think it’s a good decision at this point. The money and draft compensation isn’t worth it IMO. I’d rather throw money at Clowney. He’s a better player and fit. -

Just thinking that they kind of pushed their chips in last year and failed. It looks like the 49ers are going to be around. Just thinking that maybe they’d try to do something to look a little different next year. -

Any thoughts that maybe the Rams will deal one of their guys? -

I’m in the same boat as you Bill. The Bills NEED some guys that win because they’re better. They need some guys that keep D coordinators up at night. There are a few in this draft and some that will come out of nowhere and be great. If the Bills add “the” guy instead of “a” guy they have a chance to win it all.

I guess it probably sounds like I’m talking out of both sides of my mouth. I’m not, at all, opposed to trading up. I just would do so with this year’s picks and players. I’d use 2021 picks after the 1st. To me, that’s just a gamble that I’d never take.
-
The worst case scenario is that Allen gets hurt and our tough schedule proves too much. We bottom out and have a top 5 pick that we’ve traded away. If the cost is a 2021 1st I’m out. I’d rather have Jefferson + my 2021 pick than only Jeudy/Ruggs/Lamb. I HATE the idea of a future 1st for a prospect. EDIT: Just to clarify if you could add protections like in the NBA I’d be fine with it. A top 15 protected 1st or whatever. There is just too much uncertainty and parody in the NFL for me to trade an asset that I have no idea what it is.

My buddy is a scout there and told me Trufant will be gone. It may be more but I’m confident that’s happening. -

Exactly!! You can throw the Jags in there as well. The reality though is even in those disaster type scenarios you can make 1 to 2 semi-difficult decisions and be back okay. Trufant goes and you are back above water (at least somewhat). -
I never like the idea of trading an unknown for an unknown (QB excluded). If I knew that the Bills 2021 pick would be 25, cool. Things happen though. If I’m trading next year’s 1st is only do it for a proven star. I’d do it for OBJ for example. I’m not trading 22 and a 2021 1st that could be anywhere for a prospect regardless of how much I like him. I loved Sammy coming out. I had no issue with the move for him at the time. It turns out I was wrong. The idea of trading pick number 22 & ? for a ? doesn’t work for me.
