But if one were forced to choose, do you take Ladd, miss Legette and shoot for Walker/ Burton /Baker/Polk?  Or get Leggette than maybe target a Pearsall?

Ladd and Legette would a dream to me.

Ladd & Baker or Legette and Pearsall are both great outcomes to me. I like Polk too. Burton & Walker have a couple too many questions but would jump at either in the 4th. There are lots of options.

I have gone back and forth on the best way to do this. It’s changed since the Diggs trade too. For me, getting one of the top 3 is option 1. You’re getting a number 1, with limited questions, on a rookie deal. Yes, you’ll spend draft capital but tell me a better use for it than getting Josh a number 1 on a rookie deal? Yes, the Bills need pass rushers too but can throw cap space at it next year and/or whatever draft capital is left.

My second choice is 2 in the top 60 with complementary skill sets. They have to have a guy that can contribute now and can gamble on a high ceiling guy.

I really don't see the Bills rushing to add another WR they are going to have to immediately pay.  I think the rookie deal is part of the benefit and what we need right now.  We are decent with the cap next year, but not 30 mil to one player decent.

I think that I agree here. With the Bills resetting the cap next year though, it could make sense. It could be both as well. If the Bills make the deal referenced above (for example) they can still take a guy at 28 because they have a starting spot available. If you added Ayiuk (for example) you can take a higher upside guy with some question marks at 28 (Mitchell, Legette or gasp, Coleman). I’m not advocating for it but could certainly get behind it.

Yessir - I'm crushing on Ladd right about now. Draft and play WR. Josh would have his most reliable WR since........he who shall not be mentioned.

Then, go get Leggette, Troy or Tez.

Ladd and Legette would be really nice IMO.

It’s just worrisome to walk into the year with  samuel- Shakir - 3rd tier rookie that is not a slam dunk and even if good likely takes some time to get there.

I said it elsewhere but the idea that we could be week 1 with Shakir- a very green leggette -shorter and hollins if Curtis Samuel rolls an ankle or pulls a muscle in camp is not great.

suddenly it puts some of that super man requirement on Josh way too early in the season

I don’t disagree. I’ve been on team, “trade way up for top 3” for a little while. I want a second guy as well (and maybe a 3rd).

If the Bills do plan on waiting until 28 (which I don’t believe) then I think you have to get 2 guys before 60. The need for them to get roughly 200 targets from guys not yet on the roster, keeps bumping McConkey up to me. He can handle 100 targets tomorrow with his skill set, route running and SEC experience. You can then turn around and try to come up for Legette (my choice). I don’t think that the Bills can count on a raw toolsy prospect as their top pick without pairing that with a more dependable skill set to complement him.

I think that’s the point though. The board here is very split. I’m sure the Bills have a specific target in mind in the real world. But for the purpose of this excercise and the way this thing is playing out the options seem to be:

    1. Huge trade up for one of the big 3

    2. Smaller trade up for Thomas

    3. Sit tight or tiny trade up for AD Mitchell

    4. if Thomas is gone and they don’t like Mitchell it makes sense to trade down.

Mitchell would have won the vote again, but for this mock he was not an option. Thomas was gone, we could not take Mitchell and so it made sense to trade down imo.

I think that option 5 is the veteran route. MAYBE you can trade 1 of your 4ths & the Vikings 2025 2nd for Aiyuk (for example)?

Regardless of everyone’s preference it feels like WR1 is inevitable.

i was trying to find some info on it but haven't yet been able to find a good source.... but I have a really interesting thought. Wait until the 5th or 6th round and find a high RAS OL - likely a guard - and talk to him. Make sure he he is fast with good feet and tell him we will draft him to be a powerback fullback.

Talk to a few guys. There is likely a high RAS OL that will last in the 6th or 7th that we can do something with.

Good by me. Tush push specialist

Bo will thrive in that offense. Love it

I’m not a Nix fan. Neither he nor McCarthy is very good imo. In real life I wouldn’t take either of them before day 3. I was banking on Penix making it to 23. I feel that the Vikings are backed into a corner and had to draft a QB. This was my EJ Manuel selection.

Glad that you like him and hope that you’re right. That’ll make me feel like less of a moron for drafting a guy that I have no interest in 😂😂

    no love for Mitchell?

I think his ceiling is high. I think that his floor is too low for where he will be picked. I’ve said it before but he gives me George Pickens vibes in terms of effort. If I could get McConkey and Mitchell, sure. If the Bills go Mitchell they are going to HAVE to have someone that can handle a lot of targets immediately. You can’t have 2 low floor guys when you have 200ish targets available.

  8. With the 23rd pick in the 2024 draft, the Minnesota Vikings select Bo Nix, QB, Oregon

The Vikings got their QB. Nix is athletic, accurate, and experienced. He was a top recruit that started at his hometown team. He took some lumps but really matured when he got to Eugene. He has some qualities similar to Brock Purdy in his ability to get the ball into his playmakers hands. We feel the value is here at 23 and have a guy that can start year one.

@LEBills and the Dallas Cowboys are on the clock.

Maybe. But I think it's going to cost more than that. The price for Atlanta to go from 27 to 6 for Julio Jones was a 1st, 2nd, and 4th in 2011 and a 1st and a 4th in 2012.

So i'm not sure that a 1st and a 4th this year and a 1st and 2nd next year would be enough to go from 28 to 4 when it cost more to go from 27 to 6 for Atlanta.

I think the 3 1st's asking price isn't equal from picks 5-32. I'd guess with where we're picking, they'd probably want more to move from 4 to 28.

It depends on the demand. If teams ACTUALLY want McCarthy that bad (again hilarious) the price will be higher. If teams are smart that Bills offer is reasonable. The Cards can jump back up and get one of the top 3 in this scenario and still have extra draft assets if they wanted to. It’s not likely but not impossible either.

Yeah I think he's the one guy who can come in and take 70 targets like he's been here for a year already. However, I would love Ladd and Legette, which leads to question..Do you secure that monster 1st, then settle for a Pearsall?.....or take Ladd and hope to get a Coleman?

I'm all for trading next year's 26-32 pick to a team like GB for 41 and 88.(they are just one of the teams with 2  2s and 2  3s).

My hope would to be Ladd at 28 then maybe move 41 to 37 for Legette.  Then I'm looking to lock down Sweat and willing to move to the mid 50s to get him.

    Btw Maason Smith at 88

That’s a tough one. I love the idea of Ladd and Legette. I also love the idea of the top 3. Pearsall is a guy that I’m higher on than most. I like him more than Coleman (even at the same spot). Baker is another guy in that mold that you might be able to get.

I think that you need 2 for sure. The quality of the 2nd is dependent on who is the 1st. If your first pick is McConkey you can shoot for upside with your next pick because he has a high floor (if healthy). If your first pick is Coleman, you need a higher floor guy with your 2nd WR pick. You can’t draft 2 boom or bust guys.

Brock Purdy has flat out proven that he is a good NFL qb. The better comp for your argument is Mac Jones.

Brock Purdy is good. He was the last pick in the draft because of his tools. McCarthy is now going top 5 because Purdy is good.

We are in full agreement on the need to draft a WR early but I just don’t think McBeane who generally speaking is very prudent when building a roster is spending 8-10 million a year on a replacement for your WR4.

It would be a foolish waste of resources to spend your largest free agent contract  on upgrading a role player slot. Which leads me to believe they feel that Samuel is a slot or slot boundary hybrid and that Shakir is likely a slot boundary hybrid player at a minimum.

The only thing that I’ll say in contrast (and we generally agree on it) is that the Bills wanted that player. It wasn’t like they thought, “we need WR and will decide between Samuel and OBJ.” The Bills wanted Samuel because of his skillset. The Bills were less looking at it as Samuel plays “___” snaps on the boundary and “___” snaps in the slot. The Bills looked at him as a guy that they said, “we want him to get 8 touches a game.” That’s a little more aggressive than what Deebo gets but in line.

I think Deebo is a better pure receiver but Samuel a better runner. It may be something like 3 catches and 5 carries or some variation there. The Bills were pretty clear that they needed more explosion. Samuel provides that. I think that they paid for that. They paid for the 8 touches more than paying for the routes run. It’s just a small area where we disagree a little. To me Samuel is a rich man’s Harty/McKenzie or a poor man’s Deebo. He is more chess piece than WR.

Yea. There is an AJ McCarron to him. I have him 6th of 6 among the top QB options.  Arizona is definitely trying to create a market. I think Denver would love to move up, but have no ammunition. Minnesota is desperate. The Giants brass if they have another bad year with Jones might be out that creates an urgency... who knows that the Raiders plan is? I think the Cards are in a position to really ramp it up. And IF (as I have heard is possible McCarthy goes #3) and Daniels or Maye are at #4 then what I was told is teams you don't think are in the QB market would be in the QB market. Jets and Seahawks spring to mind. Possibly Saints?

    I love the McCarron comparison!!

It’ll be super interesting if McCarthy goes 3. I have the Vikings currently in the mock draft and that’s why I wanted them. I had a deal with the Cards contingent on McCarthy going 3. When the top 3 went 1-3 it was a no go. If I was sitting at 11, he wasn’t going to be the pick. In real life, someone will go up to get him (if he doesn’t already go 3). I don’t understand.

There’s another interesting angle inflating his draft stock. There really don’t seem to be any veteran trade targets out there now. Most years there are a couple of guys “in the Jimmy G tier” that you can get if you miss in the draft. For the most part, those guys aren’t out there. We don’t have a lot of solid vets sitting behind kids with question marks. The Vikings, Broncos and Raiders probably roll with the trash that they have if they can’t get one of those guys. Nix or Penix will compete but there’s just not a lot of options.

It's hilarious to me too, but it seems almost inevitable that someone is going to go up for him. I'd be saying to Minnesota "If you don't someone else will."

I can see something like Minn's two firsts this year, and their first next year but Arizona's 2025 2nd going back the other way. The other team I keep hearing are very much in the mix for a trade up to #4 is the Giants. That must be attractive to AZ.... Get an extra pick and still get Harrison or Nabers.

It seems inevitable but maybe Arizona is just throwing that out to create artificial demand? The Vikings are desperate. Maybe they can use that desperation to do what you suggested with the Giants? Maybe they can get them to panic, slide up 2 spots & Cards still get the WR?

I just can’t wrap my head around being desperate for McCarthy 😂. He doesn’t have the measurables. His ball placement is spotty. He’s not quick through progressions. His arm is average. He isn’t a great athlete.  We like that he won? Lol, so we are trading 3 firsts for a guy with average tools and average numbers because he won a lot with elite talent around him? Brock Purdy Syndrome

The Cardinals asking price for 4 is 3 1st Rounders: https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/report_cardinals_set_huge_asking_price_to_trade_no_4_pick/s1_127_40220273

This is pretty much what I expected. They're going to take MHJ unless they receive an offer they can't refuse.

I think that it’s POSSIBLE that you could give them something like 28, 128, 2025 1st and the Minnesota 2025 2nd. The fact that it’s the Vikings pick that we got for Diggs is helpful. If Darnold is their QB most people probably think that pick is in the top 10 of the round. If they think that the Bills regress a little they might be thinking: 28th this year, 128th, 20ish and 40ish next year. That’s starting to get warmer.

Of course they’ll throw out a big ask but if you put that offer on the table I think that they’d say yes. They’re trying to create a bidding war for McCarthy (which is hilarious to me).

The regular Joes who "cracked the code" on how to afford season tickets without dropping thousands they don't have every year. Not to make a profit but to get back enough for next year's tickets. We can't have that, can we.

I think that it is certainly doable for the Bills. You can sell 2, max 3 games, and pay for your season. It’s the Sabres people selling 25 games that they have an issue with. Also, in hockey/basketball/baseball the demand is opponent based. With the Bills the interest and pricing is more Bills based. Yes, KC brings more money than Denver but Denver still has massive demand. Every game before Thanksgiving has big demand. When you sell a Leafs ticket it’s WAY more likely to end up in the hands of a Leafs fan than a Broncos ticket is to end up in the hands of a Broncos fan.

  17. With the 11th overall pick, the Minnesota Vikings select Jared Verse, Edge, Florida State. @mannc and the Chicago Bears are on the clock.

The Vikings tried to get into the top 3 to secure their QB of the future. When it became apparent that would be difficult they shifted their focus to 1 of the next 2 most important positions in football. With Hunter heading to Houston, the Vikings reload with Verse on a rookie deal. We saw the success that Houston had with a rookie pass rusher in 2023 and we took our version. He has great burst and can get after the QB. It was value meets need at an impactful (and expensive position).

I always wondered how teams would even begin attempting to enforce a ban. How would you identify a banned person out of 70k?

Yeah, it’s not realistic and kind of stupid. He just doesn’t buy the tickets in his name. There isn’t like some FBI software to identify you or anything though. He said that he goes all of the time. I think he’s not supposed to go to any NFL stadiums but don’t remember.

The Bills probably don’t really care either. They had to issue the “ceremonial ban” to discourage others from being so creative.

They used to have these little cards on the tables there with like a bio of your server. It said, “I was once featured in a Barstool Documentary.” I asked him about it. It was invigorating. Lol, I had him sign the card. Now every time that I’m in there I make him tell the story to whoever I’m with. My boss was in town a couple of months ago and Austin (that’s his name) told the story to him. His takeaway was that I’m an idiot. He’s a Pats fan. My girlfriend was in there with a couple friends a few weeks ago and told him that I’m his biggest fan 😂😂
