  1. I really do not understand the disdain that some have for Austin. He is small, so is Wes Welker, Percy Harvin and Desean Jackson. He has never been hurt and can score from anywhere on the field. IF the Bills were to take him they would create some matchup nightmares for opposing defenses. Speed kills and the Bills would have an abundance of it. I am not just talking James Jett straight line speed but guys that can make moves and accelerate.

  2. So you are going to be pretty upset when the Bills address their CB need in first 2 or 3 picks.

Smith is built much thicker... DJ is a couple inches taller, a little heavier... they're small, but not AS small.

Best chance to move down is for someone that wants Austin, so that may be why they are talking him up. Not that he can't help, but i think they want someone bigger... they've said so.

I'd be okay with CB as long as there is value. This team has needs and if they are plugged with good value I am okay with it.

I dont think that the Bills are going to draft a guard at 8. There would be nowhere near the buzz that there is now about their pick. Arizona has a bunch of needs and are right in front of the Bills and there are not rumors swirling around them. People just assume that they are going to sit at 7 and pick guard.

  3. I am all over the place on this draft and have no idea where the Bills will go. I just had a thought that maybe the Bills leaking of all if these names are just smokescreens so that someone doesn't trade up for Geno?

    The evidence:

-naturally, everyone will link Nassib to them so they didn't need to feed that.

-Barkley being "their guy" was a late revelation that came out as Geno to Cleveland was thrown out.

-My source that gave me Kolb and the schedule leaks told me a month ago that the Bills liked Geno the EJ then Tyler Wilson. He didn't think that Geno would be there and the board can obviously change over a month.

-Russ Brandon definitely has the power now and I am sure that he likes the idea of the top rated QB

-Austin is another guy that is gaining some late momentum and maybe that is plan b. If Geno is gone make someone trade up for Austin or take him yourself.

I am just thinking out loud but I guess that it's possible. Maybe they are acting like Geno isn't an option so that someone doesn't jump in front if them to scoop him up?

  4. Three votes for Tavon Austin.

Any team with an average quarterback, a good offensive coordinator, a good O-line, Spiller, Freddy, Stevie and Tavon Austin could do a lot of damage.

Austin might be the only elite talent available when the Bills draft at #8.

Of course EJ Manuel is an elite talent but Austin is the guy I've had a change of heart about.

I am just going to 2nd this

  5.

Meh a rookie WR isnt going to produce his first season, may as well grab one in a later round and groom him to be ready next year.

Sincerely, AJ Green and Julio Jones

The passing game in college is so advanced that QBS and WR are more prepared coming out. The transition is much smoother than it was.

  6. Mayock is someone that I usually like. He has Austin to the Bills. I think that all of this QB at 8 may be a smokescreen so that no one jumps in front of them for Austin. If they stay at 8 I think that he may be the pick.

  7. You never know. Who’s to say that the kicker drafted in the 6th will turn out to be any good? At that point it’s mostly based on potential and is kind of a crap shoot. There are a bunch of guys in the league that were drafted in the 6th or lower. Maybe we find the next SJ13, Donald Driver or even Mr. Butt Chin. As of right now, compared to other positions, I just don’t think that a kicker is really high on the list of needs because I don’t know for certain that Lindell cannot hit from 50+. I’d rather find a position player with all the physical tools that needs some time to develop.

Totally different, you are drafting the top rated kicker in the 6th round and the 74th rated lineman. Like Casserly said 9% end up being players. That means 3 of the 32 (or more with compensatory) players picked in the 6th will be good. I would rather have a stud kicker than a 1 out of 10 chance that you find the next Stevie Johnson.

  8. The expected snarky response from the board is so obvious, it nearly writes itself.

I agree with you 100% that if there's a guy that can upgrade the position late, I'd be all for it.... But brace for the Brady comments. They'll come.

Ha ha...good point. I always forget that EVERY 6th round pick could be the next Tom Brady. Everyone remembers Brady but no one remembers the impact that Mark Asper made.

  9. I honestly am not sure how I feel about the first part of the question. I prefer next year's QBs to this year. I do not want a QB at 8. I do however think that I want one by round three. If I got Manuel in the 3rd round (not going to happen) I would be ecstatic. I would not be happy with anyone at 8.

To me it is all about value. I would rather take a player at 8 that is worth the 8th pick and a player at 41 that is worth the 41st pick than taking a player at 8 that is worth the 41st pick and a player at 41 worth the 41st pick.

  10. We have too many holes to draft a kicker 2 years in a row. I’d rather bring Potter back for camp to see if he’s been working on his FG accuracy or another UDFA than using a pick on a kicker. I also don’t really know if Lindell can’t make a 50+ yard kick anymore or if Chan was too much of a wuss to even try for the fear of giving the opponent good field position. Based on some of the interviews Lindell gave last year, he alluded that he thought he could make it but Chan never gave him a chance…I also know that it seems like the player is the last to realize he can’t do it anymore. I’m all for bringing in some serious competition for #9 (not just a camp leg) and let the best man win.

Who that is drafted in the 6th round will play a more important role than kicker?

  11. It's time to take a kicker. When you punt from the 32 b/c you don't trust the kicker to attemp a 49 yarder -it's time. Last year both pro bowl kickers were rookies. That is a position that did not always translate well from college to the pros. That seems like a trend that is changing.

Besides what's more important to your team a special teamed, your last lineman or your kicker?!? 6th round picks have a 9% chance if success (according to Casserly). I am not sure what he defines as success though. Would you rather have Zebrie Sanders, Mark Asper or Greg Zeurlien (sp)?

  12. He is a member of the Bills PR department of course he knowsething we don't. Having worked in pro sports for 8 years I can promise you that those guys are preparing for a certain direction. He may not be out there revealing the plan (in fact it is probably the opposite). He certainly knows and it would seem that QB is the favorite.

  13. I think that the Bills are the team in the top 10 that would consider a move to 30. I think the Bills are dead set on a QB with their first pick and the value isn't there at 8. They may very well get the same guy at 30 so it does make sense. Other teams looking to trade down will be selecting a lower rated player at 30 than where they are now (ie Oakland, Cleveland, etc...)

  14.

Yes it's a wide open passing league. That doesn't mean for a second that running and stopping the run are any less important. Football 101. That will never change.

    GO BILLS!!!

I agree that stopping the run is important but you can do it in different ways. The Pats and Saints do it by scoring a ton of points and taking the run out of play.

Fwiw, the Bills will be better against the run this year.

  15.

Yes. Tampa Bay did not win the SB because they were the best defense against the run last year.

    GO BILLS!!!

Don't really understand your point. The game is a wide open passing league (I didn't know that was up for debate). If you look at the passing numbers over the last 5 years they stack up with any 5 year period in history. That's just reality.

The Bills unfortunately are a long way from having the skill players to do what the top teams have. Obviously, there is no QB on this team right now like the top teams have but we do not currently possess the receiving threats either. Look at the receiving threats on Denver, Atlanta, SF, etc...
