Surprised about Ismail and Mcallister, not so much for the former Bills
I am good friends with a Saints player that was going to buy Deuce's house for like 25% of what Deuce paid because he needed the $. His car dealerships crushed him.

If the Bills are going to have trouble sustaining drives because of average-below average QB play, why do you feel they'll have what it takes (the OL and the QB) to "hit on big plays"?
A lot of the WCO is built on quick delivery of short, high percentage passing plays to open up the run game, and enable the "big play" to take place. Average 3.4 ypa moves the chains. If we can't sustain drives with the short, high-percentage accurate stuff, I doubt we'll be able to pull off the big plays, myself.
....and still faces a lot of questions as to whether he's durable enough to handle 25 carries per game
I don't think that the big plays will be made over the top (which would require good QB and OL play). I think that this offense will be predicated on getting the ball into playmakers hands quickly and letting them do the work. A guy that can take a 7 yard slant to the house is appealing to me.

No it's not. But hanging your shingle on a 174-pound WR is a LOT of risk to take for a team with an unsettled QB situation, no linebacking to speak of and a big, big void at LG.
If you want a high risk, high reward playmaker, I'd rather go with Patterson...
I don't see Austin as a high risk player. That is why you are seeing 175 lb WR projected in the top 15. I am a fan of Patterson as well and he is certainly a high risk high reward guy.

An offensive playmaker is not a "luxury." Its a necessity in today's pass-oriented NFL. Everything is second to getting a good QB, obviously, but the days of "build a superstar OL to win" are long gone. The Bills have a decent OL, good enough to win with. What we don't have is a QB, or anyone in the passing game that scares opposing teams outside of Stevie.

I said it the other day but I think that Austin is a combination of Welker and Desean Jackson. I think that the Bills will have a difficult time sustaining drives because of average-below average QB play. They are going to have to hit some big plays to score. They are not going to be able to surgically go down the field on 18 play drives a la Tom Brady. Spiller and McKelvin play an important role for this very reason. Austin would be another player in that mold. I see the appeal. I would be cool with him in a trade back situation but I don't think that it will happen. I would be surprised if he wasn't a top 13 pick.

It is amazing how different people's perspective is this year. I feel like most years there are a couple of ways that this team could go. This year some people are going to love the direction that they take and others are going to hate it. I don't know if it speaks more to the uncertainty at the top of the draft the perceived depth at areas of need, or the number of holes on the current roster. It is going to be interesting for sure. I have a preference as for how I would like them to draft but it will be difficult for me to see how this team doesn't improve quite a bit during this draft (even more so than most years). These guys will be counted on to contribute immediately which you don't always see.

Austin hasn't been touched off the line or otherwise for 4 years and is the reason anyone is talking about Geno Smith. Buffalo may not have the luxury of taking him, but I think he's going to be very good. Like a faster Welker.
If Wes Welker and Desean Jackson had a child it would be Tavon Austin.

The way that I look at it is the Bills need 2 contributing WR at least. There are less and less busts at the WR position because of the pro style attacks that college teams have adopted. AJ Jenkins being the exception and his college team played a college offense. I would like WR early and then mid-late. Right now there is one WR and an injured TE on this roster. Teams are going to LOAD the box which obviously hurts the running game. How are the Bills going to score points?

It was a long time ago but I think tht Spielman was a beast in his first game as a Bill. It was the night game vs. the Giants. Incidentally, I think that is the famous "Where would you rather be than right here, right now" game. Marv said that to Elijah Pitts in the tunnel before they took the field. At least I am pretty sure that was the game.
At any rate, Spielman brought an attitude and toughness to a team trying to make one more run. There weren't a lot of plays that stood out to me but he did have like 200 tackles that season.
Next up - Chris Watson (game over). Just kidding, I will stick with LB -Sam Cowart

I don't think the guy is a "can't miss" prospect like AJ Green but he is a big play guy that fills a need. There is some risk associated with drafting him but there is potential for huge rewards as well.

If this is what you are looking for, shouldn't you prefer Tavon Austin? Patterson seems more like the guy for long bombs and big redzone targets.
I like Austin too but Patterson is that guy as well. He is an electrifying open field runner and return man (not that we need a return man). He was asking for a sales job on Patterson so I gave it my best shot.
-
We don't need this guy!!
Sincerely,
Brad Smith, TJ Graham, Marcus Easley, Kevin Elliott and Chris Hogan
Patterson is a big, explosive athlete with the ability to score from anywhere. It is hard to sustain long drives in the NFL with average-below average QB play. If you are going to win games you are going to have to make some big plays. I firmly believe that is why McKelvin got the contract that he did and why Spiller is so important. A guy who can take a 7 yard slant 76 yards for a TD appeals to me (especially with the need at the position).

My Draft Nightmare:
1) Barkevious Mingo, DE/OLB/Future LSU Failure
2) Tyler Bray, QB
3) Vance McDonald, TE
That would be pretty terrible

Did you check out that video of Cooper Taylor? If you like a physical SS, feast your eyes on that dude.
Daniel Jeremiah always raves about Jonathan Cyprien. I haven't seen him much but he could be a round 2 guy. I just can't see the Bills using a top 10 pick on Vaccaro despite the potential of losing Byrd.

I would love to trade down with Minnesota if we are giving our ideal situation. Take the best WR available (Patterson, Austin or Allen) and the best LB or TE (Ogletree or Eiffert?). In the 2nd take EJ Manuel and if he is gone there is good depth at OLB (Collins, Greene, Etc...) or Zach Ertz if you took the LB in the 1st. Take one of those guys at 41.
-
Not a big fan. Living in LSU territory you get to see quite a bit of all of these SEC guys. Mingo is a freakish athlete that lacks production. He is not good against the run, only has one move and cant shed blockers. I am not going to call him the "M" word but everytime I see the guy play that is all I can think about.
1st Maybin comparison in 5...4...3...2...1...
I hate to be that guy but he reminds me exactly of him.

The Kenny Vaccaro visit is interesting. He seems to be a consensus 1st rounder so is there a possibility he could be the pick at #8? Or are they thinking he could fall to them in the 2nd?
Not likely that he falls to the 2nd. Perhaps a candidate if they are able to trade back (maybe someone like Minnesota)?

A corner, any corner and I maybe done with this team.
I like Milner but Xavier Rhodes at 8 would not make me happy.

After reading the Kiper Mock Thread it got me thinking about a draft that people would hate. I am not talking about something ridiculous like a punter in the 1st round but guys that just do not make sense (kind of like Whitner when Ngata was on the board). I guess that I will take a shot:
1st - Jonathan Cooper
2nd - John Jenkins
3rd - Mike Glennon
I hate the idea of a guard in the top 10, I think that DT is not a need at all (especially with Branch signing) and I just do not like Glennon as a prospect. I like his arm but not much else appeals to me. I would hate the above draft.
I only went 3 rounds because I think that it is really difficult to hate a 6th round pick before they play a game. You can always use 20/20 hindsight on mid-late round picks but at the time you are filling holes.
yours???
-
Who did he pick for us in round 2?
Brad Wing Punter from LSU (jk)
-
He is terrible. Drops everything thrown to him. I would not want him on the Bills.
Not saying that he is the greatest WR in football but who is going to line up there? As far as I am concerned the Bills still need AT LEAST 2 (maybe 3) NFL caliber WR. As far as I am concerned they have 1 at the moment. I liked Nelson but he was hurt and I thought that Donald Jones was terrible. I think that I could have covered that guy. I had no problem with getting rid of those guys but I do have a problem with not replacing them. I think that the majority of the people that you could replace them with would be considered an upgrade.
-
A guard at 8 would be a mistake period. If you look around the league there are really good guards that have come in the mid to late rounds as well as undrafted. It just is not that difficult of a position to fill (even this front office has had a good amount of success in finding guys). There are other positions that you cannot say the same thing about. When was the last time that you saw a really solid street free agent rush the passer? Play QB or CB (Jabari Greer is the only exception that I can think of)? I am advocating that you do not draft guard because there are other needs that are harder to fill later.

Did Mohammed Massaquoi (sp) sign anywhere? Thought that he may be a good fit.

I am with you guys with Wood. I am not saying that he should have been a 2.0 but not classified with Ellis Lankster, Cary Harris and Levi Brown. He and Carrington should have received at least the same grade as Moats.

I think that this is pretty sad. Travis Henry and his poor decisions are one thing but guys trusting the wrong people and investing poorly is another. I take no joy in people filling for bankruptcy. It is a little disturbing that this article makes some people feel good. Some of these guys have done a lot of good off of the field and their demise is nothing to rejoice over.
