  1. I haven't really followed this case all that much either...what became of Mrs. Fine's taped phone call? That seemed like some pretty damning stuff. Was that a hoax too?
  2. Gomper and Mr Weo! Good call on Giants over Pack! You get the feeling we are going to get Giants Vs Pats, round 2?
  3. Dante...keeping things classy as always...
  4. Comparing Pegula to Snyder is ridiculous. Pegula is being patient, Snyder never was. In the end, it may be the wrong call on Pegula's part (the Sabres looked like the worst team in the NHL vs the Islanders tonight), but Pegula needs to have a season or two under his belt before we start labeling him a fool, like Snyder. He took over a team last season, late, and made every positive change he could, at that time, for last season..if you recall, the team got very hot when he took over. This off-season they added Regher and Erhoff, two solid pick-ups. Erhoff isn't the stay at home defensive guy we might like, but he was signed to be the guy that Brian Campbell used to be, a defensemen who could move the puck up the ice, and help offensively. They also got rid of Tim Connolly and added Ville Llano, which appears to be a push at this point...though, I gotta say, I think I liked Connolly better. They got rid of one bad salary with TC, and it appears, so far, added one with VL. They also extended Brad Boyes, who, is looking like a non-factor... this is hardly the same as adding washed up name-players, as Snyder did. It has been a tremendously disappointing season, so far, but even if they don't make it to the palyoffs, remember, they barely did last year, either...I won't condemn Pegula, until I at least see how he handles this disappointing season. Personally, as much as I really like Lindy Ruff, I don't think letting him coach elsewhere would be the worst thing for this team right now...they are as dead in the water as they ever have been, in the Ruff era. I don't think they are lacking talent, but, maybe, they just don't have talented pieces everywhere...they need to re-commit themselves to playing defensive hockey, particularly since nobody outside Vanek and Pomminville can score a goal. Trade Roy, and Stafford, before their perceived value gets any lower. Sorry to rant...Sabres really pissing me off... even more than the Bills this season...
  5. My picks: Saturday: Saints 27 49ers 17 Patriots 34 Broncos 21 Sunday: Ravens 20 Texans 13 Packers 38 Giants 31 I was almost tempted to pick the Texans...not cuz I love them so much, but Baltimore seems due to lay an egg.
  6. Funny thing is, I have never heard Tebow utter a word about God or Jesus Christ, unless it was in the context of a story about his faith. I know he genuflects and crosses himself, but loads of players, in all sports do that. I am not a religious person, but I am also not an anti-relgion person. It really doesn't bother me, at all, if someone has a faith that I don't have. I realize, the "Tebow-mania" thing is a bit over the top, but, I also think the scrutiny that this kid has faced this season has been really disproportionate. As I said in another thread (sorry if I am repeating myself) why is it that Caleb Hainey or Tyler Palko can suck in relative peace, but Tebow is disected ad-nauseum...he doesn't throw the perfect pass, "he will never be and adequate NFL QB", "the Bronocs MUST cut him now"...blah, blah, blah...it really seems like this is all a reaction to his faith. Other QB's have sucked...none have had their suckiness disected like Tebow, as a national past-time. Is it all because of his religion? I like Bill Maher (not a Maher thread), but I found his "twittercism" of Tebow, after the Bills beat the Broncos (I was there!) insane. You can't pretend to be a reasonable, open minded person, and then turn around and knock somebody for their religion. I found it very odd that Kurt Warner, who by my recollection was much more verbal about his faith, advise Tebow to "tone it down". Why? If that is who he is, that is who he is. It goes way beyond football. Why the fug does Charles Barkley find the need to chime in? I am generally a Broncos fan, though I started hated them after Shannahan left...but, I got no problem rooting for Tebow....especially this week!
  7. I understand the reason the NFL (and other sports) have black-out rules, but I would bet, they probably hurt their product now, as much as they help them. I was a huge Buffalo Braves fan as a kid. When they left town, I became a huge Celtics fan, based, mostly, on the fact that they were the team I could see the most. If it hadn't been for the Boston Super Station we got with our Buffalo cable in the very early 80's, I would have likely never watched the NBA again...but I follow it pretty closely all these years. Nowadays, with so many other entertainment options for kids, it seems like making games less accessable to potential younger fans, is just short-sighted.
  8. 56 degrees where I am... it was about 40 this morning...you would have thought it was 10 degrees by the way people were acting... Texans are not as hearty as they think they are!
  9. Neither is my brother...
  10. Wow....Chef, if that really is you (the guy with the baseball cap), you bare a great resemblance to my brother...I would have never imagined.
  11. So, the last result is always the only result that matters?
  12. Well, he did say he likes firing people, didn't he?
  13. The odd thing about the "Rams to LA" thing, as far as it pertains to Fisher: while I can see that he might not want to through another move, with another team, Fisher is a California guy...supposedly he was most interested in the Chargers job, before Norv aced it! Besides, the way things are now, if he went to St Louis, and didn't turn them around in 2-3 years, he might get canned anyways, and have to move somewhere else for a new job!
  14. Agreed, the only the only the way the Bills are going to compete in the division is to get better...not wait for the other teams to get worse...bring it on!
  15. I have always been a Ruff fan. I never would have even considered wanting to see him gone. But, about 3 weeks ago, or so, when the Sabres were on Versus (against Philly IIRC) the "on-ice" reporter relayed something happening on the Sabres bench, during a break in the action. They said that Ruff was bitching at Vanek (who, I thought was having a strong game), and was heard saying "you look at me when I am talking to you...don't look at the ice". For some reason that really bothered me. Vanek has been there for what? Five seasons? He is arguably the best player on the team. It seems that Ruff has been arguing with this guy as long as he has been here. Maybe that is what has made Vanek a better player, but, at this point, you would think Vanek would be buying into Ruff's system, and would be selling his younger teammates into it. There have always been whispers that Ruff doesn't handle skilled players like Vanek as well as guys like Gaustad, or Adam Mair. I do think this team has some real talent, and I find it mind-boggling that they could conceivably miss the playoffs, at this point. Hockey is one sport where in-season coaching changes tend to make a big impact. It is a lot of the same old players, with the same old problems...maybe a new set of eyes would be a good thing.
  16. Got it! Sorry Magox!
  17. Or, at least Rick Perry and company have lost sight of their more recent hysterical roots.
  18. Oh, okay...but the article doesn't really indicate that...Brett Favre's brother is white (I assume), while some of the other examples are described as being black. I thought it wasn't acceptable, anymore, to point out Dave In Elmas' issues...so I apologize. It is hard to keep up with do's and don'ts of the PPP.
  19. Wow..he got the endorsement of Gary Busey AND the "First Dude"? Gingrich can't lose!
  20. If you didn't give a schit about it, why comment...twice! Are your partisan glasses so dirty you can't see how silly that is?
  21. Occupy the GOP!
  22. Yes, that is the question. I think the Sabres need to make some deals, but I won't pretend to understand all the salary cap ramifications of deals in the NHL. For a while there, part of what I was enjoying so much about the NHL was not having to be concerned about the "business side" of things, as is necessary to follow the NFL. I would seriously look into trading Miller. If nothing else, at this point, he is a highly visible NHL star. Like Lindy Ruff, a change of scenery might be the best thing for him. I really like both these guys, but they are just treading water, and there doesn't seem to be any releif in sight. Miller has denied any interest in being traded, but there were rumors earlier this season that he was pining to go to the West Coast, where his wife lives. He clearly is not the same Ryan Miller of a few years ago. He played pretty well last night, against the Leafs, but still let in two goals that the Miller of old would not have, most nights. I would also look into seeing if they can trade Roy. The guy has undeniable talent, but, for some reason, his success seems to curb the success of others on the team. As talented, and as hot as he can be, they seem to be better off without him. Somebody could use him. The Sabres need another top center, or need to start developing one. I realize they don't grow on trees. And, this may sound crazy, but I would be willing to offer Tyler Meyer in a trade too...again, I like the kid, but I am starting to wonder if he is ever going to be as dominant a defensemen as his size suggests he should be. Agreed. It just seems like they have fallen into this pattern of falling down by two goals early, and never being able to catch up. Lindy just doesn't seem to have the same fire...maybe he is trying to play it cool with a team that is obviously lacking confidence (particularly Miller), but the coddling thing does not seem to be Lindy's strong suit.
  23. Right...he is a Republican...what's the big deal then?
  24. I hear you, but, you know, really, the only "big-money" guy they signed, that was a risk, was Lleno. He may still come around, but, up to now, has shown flashes, but has mostly been invisible. He may not be a bad part, but they need more. Regehr has been solid, IMO, and Erhoff is the sort of defensemen they have been missing since Campbell left. So, I still think those two guys are good signings. Their biggest need is, still, a bonafide #1 or #2 center.
  25. I know, from my "insider" at One Bills Drive, the day Mike Mularkey resigned from the Bills was considered a very sad day for Bills employees...Gregg Williams, not so much. From all accounts I have heard, Mularkey was a class guy, well liked by all, including Mr Wilson. I can't say that I blame him for leaving when he did, but I think he was the best of the three previous Bills coaches (Jauron, Williams and MM), and it is interesting to think how things might have been different had he stayed on. I really think he and Levy would have worked well together, and we might have avoided the most recent "missing years" of Buffalo Bills football.
