Theory on the cause of so much negative NFL news lately
Buftex replied to wnysteel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry if I made it personal. I just couldn't disagree with somebody more. -
Woods not practicing, ankle - Update: LP Friday
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep...IIRC, not one pass attemp to Williams (or Chandler for that matter) in the red-zone in either game so far. I like the play calling so far, for the most part, other than in the red-zone..they have been way too predictable close to the end-zone. -

Have they started fracking in Easton? When did PETA get involved with this? The player and the league do look bad...nobody is "helping them look bad"...they did it all by themselves. You aren't following the story. Peterson is getting paid, in full...same for Hardy in Carolinas...they just aren't being allowed to play. Don't cry for them... and you are ignoring the fact that both he, and Rice have fully admitted their transgressions...Hardy has alredy been found guilty in a court of law, Rice has not denied committing the crime he is being punished for, and neither is Peterson. -

I hope it is not serious, and he doesn't miss any time..but if he does, I would love to see Mike Williams get a few more targets per game. As bad as the offense looked in pre-season, you could see that Williams brings something to the table, on his few opportunities. -

No disrespect The Big Cat, but this is one of those tired cliches that keeps getting repeated. Does this imply that the 99.9 % of NFL players who don't beat their wives/girlfriends/kids are somehow not as dedicated to the game they play, or they aren't as "tough" a football player? Or don't play the game the right way? This is about the guys who committ the domestic violence, not the game they play. Why is everyone trying to give them some sort of excuse? Agreed. Both incidents were pretty disturbing, but the Peterson thing really hit home for me as well. I took my share of beatings from my dad growing up (never with a "switch), so it isn't completely alien to me...but to see that done to an infant, and the guy seems to have no concept of how wrong this is, is pretty disturbing. I am not a huge Cris Carter fan, but he pretty much nailed it this past Sunday... (paraphrasing) "Just because your parents did it to you, that doesn't make it rigth for you to do it to your kid". -

Well, there are roughly 2.5 to 3 times as many NFL players on active rosters than any other sport. I love football as much as anyone, but those of you who are trying to minimize this (not saying you Mayhem) are coming off as tone-deaf as the NFL. Why does it upset you so much that there is a call to stop this bs from going on? Because you have to hear about it too much, and it makes you feel guilty for supporting the league? Does it mess up your Fantasy Football roster? Poor you... what many of you are failing to acknowledge is that Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson have not denied the crimes they are being accused of. That isn't even open for debate. There is nobody trying to extort them or press bogus charges agaist them..they have admitted it. Why are you so bummed that they are getting punished for it? Or do you think that punching your woman out, or beating your infant child are just "no big deal", or just "things that just happen"? Blame the media all you want...but I would contend, this is one of the rare instances as of late, where the media is doing its' job. -

Your point is taken...but I think the real story is not necessarily the violence itself, but the way the NFL has reacted to it. They are reacting to the reactions to their actions, rather than the crimes themselves. The NFL has been tremendous, and relentless, in marketing itself toward all groups, but it has been pretty clear from their past actions (or in-action) that they have viewed women as second class fans, or commmodities, rather than people. And, now it is catching up to them. Ultimately, as painful as it may be for the league, it was only a matter of time. They did their best to get out front of the concussion story, to try to control it to a degree, and to take steps to rectify it, before they were forced to. You can argue whether their efforts were successful. But the domestic violence issue is one they chose, righth up until a few weeks ago, to try to keep under the rug. Ironically, the thing that got so many fired up about this issue was not even the slap on the wrist that guys like Rice were getting (we were used to that), but the disparity in crimes and punishment levied by the NFL for domestic abuse, and far less serious drug infractions. -

I think what is causing it: social media, and the ease of taking, and distributing videos. NFL players (athletes in all of sports) have been beating their wives for decades, we just didn't hear about it as easily as we do now. NFL teams went out of their way to shield this type of thing from getting to the media, and dealt with it "in-house", if at all. We can never know if there is an increase in incidents from, say, even 10-15 years ago, because things were kept in-house. Women have a way of fighting back now. I remember when OJ Simpson was charged with murdering his wife. Allegations of his history his long history of domestic abuse seemed to shock so many. My father, a police officer, was never an OJ Simpson fan, because he knew of so many of these allegations at the time the events were occurring. We never read about it in the Buffalo News, or the Couriour Express. It just went unreported. -
Hypothetical question regarding QB

Not a big fan... -
I like the Red Zone Channel as a supplement to the one game I am watching...but man, maybe I am just getting old...I can't just sit in front of the tv and watch just the RZ Channel...gives me a headache... I am pretty sure, at least where I am (Austin, Tx) the TWC sports pack is 8.99 per month, and includes the Red Zone. I elected to cut it this year..but are you telling me that they added the NHL Network to ther sports pack? If so, I will have to re-consider..in the past, TWC has not offered the NHL Network at all, in any package that I am aware of...

Former #1 Draft Pick to "Leader of the Charge" at RWS Sunday
Buftex replied to r00tabaga's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love Fergy... but I am afraid him being "forgotten about" is in part just the passing of time. He hasn't taken a snap in a Bills uniform in 30 years. Us old-timers remember him vividly, but time marches on. -

I am sure the 2014 Bills squad will play less inspired ball because Lee Evans is "leading the charge" You people...really... For about 4 years, he was the best player on the team. He may not have been as good as some thought (I say "may not"), but he was one of the few bright spots during some pretty dark years for the franchsie...so of course people here would **** all over him. It is what the "greatest" fans in the NFL do. -
Or, the Pegulas step back and wonder what they are getting themselves into with the suddenly toxic NFL!!!

Hmm..I think Woodhead will be the starter for the Chargers, for at least another 3 weeks or so... though things could change, still unclear whether Tate will play this week...more likely after the Browns bye, I have read. Personally, I would stick with Woodhead, until there is something definitive on Tate... I am watching this situation closely...I have Ryan Matthews (Chargers) out for about "3 to 4 weeks", and Doug Martin has already missed a start for the Bucs. Without him, I had to start Terrance West this past week...I am in no rush for Tate to come back.

To be honest, that is the same tact that about 90% of the posters here take....what has made this place a lot less enjoyable than it used to be.

what teams are featured most on your broadcast TV?

Cowboys (every week), Texans (pretty much every week), Saints or Patriots. I live in Austin, TX... -

How will Henderson hold up this week against Wake?
Buftex replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't remember where I read it, but recently, I saw that the Bills were "very unlikely" to re-sign Hughes. And, it may be overblown a bit, but it sounds like Hughes has gotten under the skin of Marrone a few times during this past summer of the "Bickering Bills '14". Of course, Marrone might not be here either... I would say that Glenn is the biggest priority, and Dareus, if he stays out of trouble the rest of the season...obviously, I would love to have all the others back too...I really hope they get a Spiller deal done this year, now that he has an agent. -
Does the 2011 5-2 start temper your enthusiasm this year?

Which is pretty much what you have to do, to make the playoffs. -
Agreed Maddog... I think Mike Wallace said as much.

Vote for Sammy Watkins-Rookie of the Week

I voted for Sammy! Gotta say though, that kid from the Bears, Fuller, coming off the pines for Tillman, and coming up with two pics was pretty damn impressive too! -

If the Pegulas treatment of the Bills is anything like what it has been with the Sabres, I have little doubt that Kelly will be involved with the Bills, in one capacity or another for as long as he wants, or he doesn't piss anyone off... -
I am curious about Gragg too...if he can catch worth a lick, he has intriguing size and speed. I also am not a Chandler hater. I don't think he is an elite tight end, by any means, but I think he is maybe just a little better than average. Not remarkably awful as some here carry on about him.
