  1. I've been slapped around for saying it but I've got to agree here. Sure hope they can figure out a way to make it happen. It'd give us some credibility. Of course Alex would have to beat out Tjax and Fitz...and Corp in the open competition.................so its no gimmee ! LOL ! Would buy us some time to draft a better QB if no one worthy was available rd. 2. I'm probably fulla crap but I'd be fine if they signed Alex. Maybe a 2-3 year deal ?? Just don't see a better option given this years crop. jb Could be, but I sure hope you are wrong on this one, OT. jb
  2. No, I've not seen this till now. What surprises me with it is how quickly the "values" drop. For example, the Bills at #8 show a value less than half of the #1 pick. I would have guessed a less precipitous drop off. I see we don't have a 7th round pick this year. Is that one we gave up for Tjax maybe ?? Neat !! Thanks for the link. jb
  3. No. Let someone else have em. The past can be a predictor of the future. I'd take him off the board unless he's around in later rounds and even that would involve risk. Character is important, well to me it is anyway. jb
  4. Post of the month right there. Dayum, couldn't say it better on my best day. Thanx, jb
  5. I dont think he has the CPU speed to read and react to defensive schemes. Other than that a fine QB specimen physically. I'm about 6 beers deep so go easy on me. Thanx. jb
  6. Totally agree. In fact they'd probably be middle of the road even if they kept the same roster as last year. I'm bullish on Pettine making a big difference. Sure hope so. Wannstedt was quite a disappointment. A middle of the road Dee might have gotten us 8 or 9 wins last year. jb
  7. Old Rodge makes some good coin ey ? Cut / paste..................................... By RICHARD ROSENBLATT AP Sports Writer NEW YORK (AP) - Nice job, Roger Goodell. Here's your pay: $29.49 million. NFL owners nearly tripled the commissioner's compensation in the 2011 tax year and likely made Goodell the best paid commissioner in U.S. sports. According to the league's most recent tax return, much of Goodell's pay comes in the form of a $22.3 million bonus. His base pay was $3.1 million. The NFL was scheduled to file the return Friday. While the league declined comment on specifics, it must, by law, make the return available upon request. In 2011, the NFL went through a long lockout prior to the season. Goodell helped work out the new 10-year labor deal that ended the labor strife. That was followed by lucrative new TV contracts with CBS, ESPN, FOX and NBC. For the year beginning April 1, 2011, and ending March 31, 2012, Goodell was paid $29,490,000, which included $3,117,000 in base pay, $22,309,000 in bonus and incentive compensation, and most of the rest in "other reported compensation," the tax return said. Goodell earned a total of $11.6 million in 2010. "The NFL is the most successful and best-managed sports league in the world," said Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, who is chairman of the league's compensation committee, in a statement. "This is in no small part due to Roger's leadership and the value he brings to the table in every facet of the sport and business of the league. His compensation reflects that." By comparison, Saints quarterback Drew Brees is the league's highest paid player with a five-year deal averaging $20 million. Goodell's compensation was first reported by SportsBusiness Daily. The next-highest paid NFL official in 2011 was general counsel Jeff Pash. He earned $8.829 million, including $5.93 million in bonus compensation. Pash was the chief labor negotiator during the collective bargaining agreement talks. Former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue received $8.58 million, all but $1 million in retirement and deferred compensation. It is believed Major-League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig and NBA Commissioner David Stern earn somewhere in the mid-$20 million range, but neither league's tax returns are public. Both leagues are set up as for-profits. "Unlike most CEO's of major companies, who are compensated with stock options, the NFL does not provide that," said Marc Ganis, the president of SportsCorp, which does consulting work with the NFL. "So a performance-based bonus is another way of compensation." Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. 8. I'm also thinking around .500. Reason: I expect an improved defensive unit. But....a lot can happen between now and the start of the season. jb
  9. Nuthin but respect for Dwight Freeney. Great player and I've enjoyed his play for many years. Hard worker fer sher. BUT...we have larger needs elsewhere........therefore I'm thinking I'd pass. If we were in dire need for a DE I'd be all over this. jb
  10. Cant argue any of that. Good stuff right there. Thanks Ryan. Just to see this train-wreck make the playoffs in 2013 (hell, even if they lose) would make me (and many of us) very happy. jb
  11. Finally we've got our answer............... As shown last season by this 3 team flop TJ. Yes, all of our QB's suck, I get that. Two words. Alex Smith. Cut Thigpen. Cut TJ. Fitz be the backup....after re-structured deal, . Nassib et al be the Taxi squad-er. Make no bones about it fellas. This is gonna be another tough season. Book it. jb
  12. Einstein, if Fitz isn't the best QB currently on the roster, then who is ?
  13. Not to worry. We just re-signed Tarvaris Jackson. I read here on this board that he's a great QB. So...just like Snopes, it must be true. Right ? See you in the Fall. No signs of intelligent life here, Kirk out ! jb
  14. Somebody once said they all look the same ! LOL ! Great photo there. Thanks.
  15. Yup....and if this competition for starter is between Fitz and Tjax which is being reported, we'll be watching yet another Bills-less playoff season. I seriously doubt we've heard the end of personnel developments (forthcoming) at the QB position. I'd rather watch Fitz than Tjax or any of the duds in this draft at starter for 2013. jb .................with the #31 ranked defense in the league and no wide receivers. Not bad, really.
  16. He is not a good QB. Doubtful his phone is ringing off the hook with offers. Has a chance to compete for starting position with Buffalo. He's probably thinking he can beat out Fitz, assuming Fitz is still here. May as well give it a go is what I'm thinking he's thinking. Yet...through all of this practically everyone on the board thinks Alex Smith is a bad idea. I guess the answer here is FIRE EVERYBODY EARLY AND OFTEN !! Yea...thats the ticket !! If Tjax starts for Buffalo it'll a game or two for these "experts" to say coulda..shoulda....woulda. For this year Alex is our best option. (if he's available) . I wouldn't touch any of the QB's in this draft until round 4 or later. Develop them behind Alex for a year or two. But thats just me. jb
  17. Unitas/Moral......Montana/Young.......Lamonica/Blanda............Morton/Staubach..........Tjax/Corp.
  18. Fitzpatrick is the best QB on the roster at the moment.
  19. Well, there's about 30 seconds I wont get back. That sucked hard ...... couldn't make it past ~30 seconds.
  20. The subject matter interests me a lot. The presentation of the NFL Network......thats where I fall off the boat. They suck. So I'll google it up, see whats happnin. jb
  21. No flaming here. Can't argue with fact. As much fun as these guys are to watch, its just too risky of a strategy in the NFL where guys can get crushed. I do like the way Russel Wilson is playing though. Does a decent job of avoiding the big hit. RGIII on the other hand. That poor kid is gonna get killed. Good post. Mobile pocket passers will always be around in this league and the read option will "probably" be a short term fad but I've been wrong before.
  22. I'm all about it. Love the idea. It would add an element to an otherwise boring /over-hyped game.
  23. I wonder if the advertisers are pissed off ?
