A Few Thoughts About The Game

The Bills are 3 deep at WR? Evans, Reed and who? -
How I wish we went after Brees 2 years back...
LabattBlue replied to deep2evans's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His last two years in SD(2004 & 2005), his numbers were pretty damn good. When exactly was his pro career over? http://www.nfl.com/players/drewbrees/caree...ts?id=BRE229498 -

Next years schedule is going to be a lot tougher... 2009 opponents: Home: Buccaneers, Colts, Dolphins, Jets, Patriots, Saints, Texans, TBD AFC North opponent Away: Dolphins, Falcons, Jaguars, Jets, Panthers, Patriots, Titans, TBD AFC West opponent The Bills have a lot of work to do in FA and in the draft in order to even have a sniff at the playoffs in 2009. -
Congrats to the CFL Calgary Stampeders
LabattBlue replied to stuckincincy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Calgary's kicker, Sandro DeAngelis who played HS football at St. Joes and is from Niagara Falls has had a successful career in the CFL. I'm not sure if he has ever been invited to an NFL camp, but you would think sooner or later he'd give it a shot...unless he is content playing in the CFL. http://cfl.ca/roster/show/id/408 -
So he is a good locker room guy, who brings it all, does his job and works hard...and how does this equate to being a starting DE in the NFL? PS The two plays he made were the exception not the rule for Kelsay and do these two plays make up for the fact that he is bringing NOTHING to the pass rush at a time when the Bills could really use some help in that regard(and no he is not being double teamed, so don't even bring that excuse to the table ).

I agree that Brady is good no matter who is out there. I was referring to a less talented QB like Cassel who does benefit from having talented WR's around him.

Our linebackers suck.
LabattBlue replied to My Friends Call Me Tebucky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Mitchell(I think he needs to show more against the run), but he had a couple of plays yesterday that were approaching Eddie Robinson-esqe levels. -
Considering his salary, Kelsay should be off the team next year. Not benched...OFF THE TEAM! Don't tell me about the two times he actually made a tackle yesterday. He is a joke of a player. Wasn't it Kelsay who was chasing after Thigpen while Johnson was running in a lane where Kelsay should have been, on his way to a 60+ yard gain? When he isn't taking himself out of position, he is getting locked up in a big way by whatever tackle he faces, good or bad. On the rare occasion, that Kelsay does get a shot at the QB, even QB's with little mobility can find a way to make him miss. Denney I can live with since the Bills aren't paying him a ton of money, but Kelsay is a joke and so are the Bills for giving him the contract he has. Just one quick note on Ellis and why he may not be playing. There was a play yesterday(it may have been one of McKelvin's interceptions), where the RT knocked Ellis to the ground with what amounted to a straight arm to the shoulder. I mean send him flying backward right on his ass. Hopefully Ellis hits the weight room in the offseason and improves on his techniques.

Does system=player talent? Forget about schemes or play-calling. Any QB who has Moss, Welker and friends instead of Berrian and bunch of nobodies is always going to look better. That being said, I wouldn't call Cassel a scrub. He still has to make the throws regardless of the system and the talent level of the players around him. His play is getting better as the season progresses.

Jabari Greer welcome to your new role in the nickel D...
LabattBlue replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are forgetting one thing. McGee will be a UFA after next season. Who do you think will be easier and cheaper to re-sign Greer or McGee? Is McGee that much better than Greer, because he will be looking for the Brinks truck once he hits FA. Or do the Bills let Greer and McGee walk and then spend another 1st round pick on a CB? -

This caught my attention also. WTF! <_< -
What is a Super Bowl win worth to you?
LabattBlue replied to scribo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How is this for an explanation...I misread the poll question. -
The injuries are taking their toll. As much as I hate to admit this this not being his biggest fan, Schobel being out of the lineup without anyone capable of being anything more than a bit player taking his place is hurting the defense. The Reed injury is hurting the offense on the other side of the ball as Hardy isn't ready, Parrish is a kick returner who they still believe can be a WR and Royal is just a trainwreck. They couldn't win a game in primetime against a bad football team with a QB making his 2nd start. Our QB is regressing over the last 4 weeks and there are no signs of coming out of the slide. I just don't know what happened to the Edwards from the first 6 games of the season to what he is now. So, you want to know if the Bills can make the playoffs...not from where I stand.
-
Are you going to consider how the Bills have played over the last four weeks when coming to the conclusion that all their remaining games are winnable or do you choose to ignore that fact?
-
Have I entered into some bizarro message board world? :worthy:

This was the point of my post.

Greer is a almost 2 years younger than McGee, will come a lot cheaper and IMO is just as good if not slightly better in pass defense and run support.
-
Here is what I would like to see... Re-sign Greer to a new 3 or 4 year contract ASAP Keep McGee in 09 and then let him walk(see performances against Ginn and Braylon among others) after the year when his contract expires. McKelvin Youboty(If he stays healthy in 09, re-sign him to a multi-year deal). Corner If Youboty stays healthy, no need to take a day 1 CB in either 2009 or 2010 drafts. In summary, Invest in Greer, not in McGee
