All true. I'm also certain that you can't rule out for certain that the regime/media used this as a distraction. They use lots of stuff as distractions all the time.

He was told to say it was inappropriate and apologize by his own party during the primary because they were going to cancel him for it. Now they ignore it. Par for the course.
