  1. Since there was no other announcement and the trade deadline past, the short term showed nothing else. If there were some free agent DL, they could've signed him anyways and deactivated JMC. So there was no plan, other than probably Corey Mace. It's not that he's so bad that they're better off with him. They gave up on JMC and would've taken the draft choice and written him off. Bill Kollar (to me) seems like a really good coach, and I yield to him and the other coaches about depth. Now he's back from the dead, since it's release him and get nothing, see if the light turned on, or back to no worse than they started - they're likely going for the latter.
  2. scientists say so the same article says that using evidence from an Antarctic ice core, the team calculated that over a period of 610,000 years the long-term change in atmospheric CO2 concentration was just 22 parts per million (ppm). Look at this graph (and it's sources) not if man-made sources generate more than nature's ability to absorb it, but why let science ruin a good theory?
  3. where do get this stuff? He wasn't contributing on a regular basis, the coaches tried to motivate him and it didn't work. So, trade him and get some value for a former #1 pick. There's no mystery there. The Bills had a taker in Indy, but he failed his physical based on something that isn't always painful or clear on an x-ray. Also, he failed the Colts physical and passed the Bills version after the trade fell through. The Bills own his rights and can no longer trade him, so rather than release him and get nothing, it's pretty obvious they'll hold on to him in the hopes that he gets it and/or they get a new trading partner in the off season. none of the above...
  4. whoa, the guy suddenly appears and nobody knows nothing about him. Now, because the media wants to know who this guy is that's getting all the attention (mostly from McCain and his supporters), they ask some basic questions and find out pretty quick he's not a licensed plumber. Well, I guess you expect them to stop in their tracks and leave him alone, but they smell a story and rightfully so. So, some more simple investigation finds out he hasn't paid (all) his taxes and he's nowhere close to buying his employer's business, at least not on paper. And the MSM and those damn lefties are evil because of this? And you don't expect any fallout about the guy's credibility? Interesting conclusion... The union supporters will call him a scab, I don't. But someone that decided to confront Obama (Joe's quote) about his policies and (arguably) misrepresents himself kinda has that some of that coming to him, at least IMO.
  5. Kotalik got 2 goals, Vanek, Spacek, and MacArthur got the others
  6. an excellent article indeed... This quote seems appropriate towards those who mock his change message:
  7. no and yes... Mercedes has spent megabucks on diesel technology development and it's gonna pay off in spades with excellent power/mileage ratios in the years to come. Toyota and Honda, come on! Up and down their lines are incredible showcases of fuel efficiency and in many cases, luxury and handling, in the same package. Yes, they pay their workers well and have kept unions at bay, of course, no argument there. I'm saying GM and Ford went for short term profits vs long term investments and will pay for those mistakes, while saddled with high labor costs.
  8. last I heard, it was $1500, and I acknowledge that as a big chunk of sunk "product cost", but the problem goes way beyond union contracts. A big part of their demise involved making conscious choices to design and build SUVs and pickup trucks vs focusing on fuel efficient cars, which has put them years behind other global auto manufacturers.
  9. clearly part of the demise of the american auto industry can be traced to product costs, but disinvestment in small, fuel-efficient cars certainly played a big part as well
  10. You are correct in that, once the war plans were put into motion, Powell (amongst many others) wanted more troops than Rumsfeld. But Powell was the voice of reason against Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz and others hell bent on regime changes and force fitting American-backed governments around the world, and most of the time he was outvoted by the neocons.
  11. self-made millionaire doesn't mind paying more taxes
  12. no argument, but given the personalities and extreme hawkish environment at the time, Powell was outgunned and overruled time and time again.
  13. no, he didn't. It was a party for Alice Palmer, Obama's predecessor.
  14. what exactly are you looking for him to say? he doesn't have a relationship with Ayers, Ayers didn't hold a fundraiser for him (it was for Alice Palmer and she invited Obama as her guest), they don't talk, there's literally nothing there.
  15. WaPo describes why it endorses Obama for President
  16. ok, 40% of Americans don't pay any taxes fact and let's assume it's true. We can also assume that the reason they pay no taxes is not because they have expert tax attorneys, but because they make so little money that they fall below the line, right? Now, how'd you like to be one of those people making ~$20K a year and have to pay $50 to fill up their gas tank or $500 to fill their heating oil tank, have to pay for their own health care, etc.? Not that welfare is a good idea, but that's pretty scary when you think about it. Is it so wrong to give them $1,000 or so (I really don't know how much they would get) to help them make ends meet, with funds that are generated mostly by allowing the Bush tax cuts (on the richest Americans) to expire? Yes, some of it will be funded by raising taxes on people making over $250K a year.
  17. Mike Williams comes to mind... a better question is how many of the top tier O-linemen in the league were drafted in rounds 1-4?
  18. there is a clear difference between a bulging disc and a herniated disc, here's an example from the Mayo Clinic My ex wife had a bulging disc and it didn't show up on an x-ray or cat scan, it wasn't until she had an MRI that it was visible to an orthopedic surgeon. As the article says, bulging discs aren't always painful, so until we learn otherwise, the Bills medical staff and JMC get a pass on knowing about preexisting conditions
  19. nice spin CO2 spewing from coal fired power plants isn't exactly a natural process nor a vital component of the biosphere
  20. you're absolutely right, but I don't think wacka was connecting CO2 and asthma
  21. It actually has nothing to do with his agreeing or disagreeing with me. I look at the vast majority of his posts on TSW vs PPP. (IMO) in the former, he has opinions, but he listens and acknowledges other people's points of view, vs here it's a hardened 1 way. question for you... why can't you disagree with someone without slamming them?
  22. I actually agree with you on this, mild exposure helps to build strong immune systems...
  23. I don't understand how a guy that's so knowledgeable and rational about football can be so closed minded and partisan about politics. That's a shame cincy...
  24. dude, have a decaf, I didn't say she was going to jail
