Deeply Concerned for Our Country
In-A-Gadda-Levitre replied to scribo's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
2007 was actually 95% of the time with Bush and the now famous clip of JMC himself saying he voted with Bush 90% was recorded in 2003. Congressional Quarterly calculated the voting record of McCain to AVERAGE 90% over the 7.5 years of Bush in July 08. You are correct that JMC has scored as low as 77% for Bush and 67% for his party during that period. -
some of the comments to this are priceless: IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says: Every time she opens her mouth, I feel smarter. A Patriot Acting Says: Q: Brandon Garcia wants to know, “What does the Vice President do?” Palin: That’s easy, Brandon. The Vice President works behind the scenes with groups like PNAC, AIPAC and oil company executives to form self-serving energy policies, get no bid government contracts for your friends and start unjustified wars. The Vice President also gets a man-sized safe, a bank of paper shredders and get’s their house blurred out on the Google Earth. One thing that the Vice President NEVR DOES Brandon, is leave a paper trail. Oh, and if a pesky Congress tries to ask any questions, just claim “Executive Privilege”! Works EVERY TIME! Thanks Brandon…NO MORE QUESTIONS, PLEASE! Lungman424 Says: Someone should take her outside and show her…see this?..this is your ass..See this?..this is a hole in the ground…Learn the difference.. The Republic of Stupidity Says: Every time I watch this woman talk, all that comes to mind is an old Korean saying… the empty barrel makes the most noise…

Obama gets discredited as a socialist

there's no trap and I think you've made it clear in the past that you're not for McCain. You obviously don't like the idea of redistributing wealth, but how come you don't jump all over McCain for his plan as being socialist? -

once more... no amount of covering and cases would have made a difference and there aren't exposed wires, meaning bare without insulation. I think, but don't know, that because aluminum is such a good conductor, and there's so many volts at such a high amperage going through those wires, that allowing the tails of the balloons to touch them shorts out the wires. The very same reason humans aren't supposed to touch the damn wires! It's something to do with radiating electricity outside the insulation of the wires. Other than running the wires underground, it's simply not practical to cover them. I can't see NYSEG springing for that. What you should be asking is what can the stadium and network do to avoid this type of problem again, as in bringing in more diesel generators, etc. -

what is it called when you begin taxing an existing component of compensation (employee-based health care benefits) and redistribute that tax revenue by sending checks to all eligible citizens, including those who do not currently receive that benefit? -
sounds a lot like what Colin Powell said...

fixed It also had nothing whatsoever to do with RWS, other than blaming them in hindsight for not having adequate backup generators, which I'm guessing will come up in the future. The transformers and wiring leading up to the "service entrance" of the stadium is 100% within the responsibility of the utility. Also, covering the transformer has nothing to do with the outage. NYSEG didn't say much besides "mylar balloons got tangled up in the wires", but that infers that wiring shorted out, blowing up the transformers. Is there something that could have prevented that? Not sure, but covering anything doesn't factor in to it. If you wanna blame someone, rag on CBS, as it appears they had no clue what they were doing during all this. -
Jesse Jackson on Obama
In-A-Gadda-Levitre replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. Responds to Distortions in NY Post Column -For Immediate Release- Contact: Butch Wing, 510-701-8955 Shelley Davis, 773-490-8665 October 14, 2008 The recent column in no way represents my views on Middle East peace and security. The writer is selectively imposing his own point of view, and distorting mine. I have a long held position of a two state solution to achieve peace in the Middle East. I stand forthrightly for the security and stability of Israel, its protection from any form of hostility, and a peaceful, non-violent resolution to co-existing with its Palestinian neighbors. I have advocated for peaceful, non-violent negotiation. This is a framework that all people who pursue peace and reconciliation embrace. Both presidential candidates embrace this approach to advance Middle East negotiations and the peace process. It is our national policy. The slant of this writer’s article is designed to incite fear and division. It must not be allowed to divert our focus away from the substantative and sensitive debate around the critical foreign policy and domestic economic issues in this critical region of the world. Reverend Jackson is not a representative of Senator Obama. He has never had a conversation with Senator Obama about Israel or the Middle East, and was not characterizing his views on these issues. -

the entire basis for the writer's argument is "But most Democrats - including party elders Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and Al Gore - strongly support the idea of mandating "fairness."" People should be saying in response: "what else you got?" -
1 more time... Powell was given totally false information by the intelligence community, which was the sole basis for his UN speech. There have been so many confirmations of this, it's bordering on ridiculous. Our intelligence was flat out wrong; either because they (certain figures such as Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, etc.) had an agenda and wanted the intelligence to support that agenda or because the intelligence community simply used poor judgment in coming to those conclusions, such as dubious, single-source/no confirmation reports, and so on. Powell was a messenger, not the seller you describe. He was against going to war until Bush made his decision, and lot of that decision was based on all the bad intelligence, as well as listening to bad advice. General Powell owes us nothing as he apologized many times for saying what he did, and he served his country well for over 40 years. He's not a politician, he's a patriot, probably one of the most honest patriots of his generation.
-
yes, that was really an incredible statement that Powell made about America. Here's the image he was referring to...
-
LMAO how does this relate to Bush? You accuse Powell of being wrong, but he was just a messenger for bad intelligence information. Bush isn't endorsing a presidential candidate in this thread. If we were discussing Bush and his record, you might have a point. But nice smokescreen
-
I don't suppose you considered that he might have been given totally wrong intelligence information and told what to say? naw, didn't think so...

well, yeah, but I think they really do listen to it, and then twist it around. it's just funny that Obama is a socialist, but McCain can give checks to everyone and it's great. -

If Obama wants to raise taxes on the richest Americans and give checks to people that don't pay taxes, it's called massive welfare and socialism. But if McCain wants to tax every citizen's employee health care coverage and give every citizen a $5000 check to offset expenses, it's a great plan for all Americans!
