One thing to keep in mind if its Hue.....Hue was Paul Hackett's offensive coordinator at USC....He's known Nate for 20 years.
-
He just extended with ESPN through 2020....I am sure its an easy buy out..but I don't think he commits for that long without wanting to stay.
-
I totally understand the uninspired feelings about Hue...but if this ends up being the hire -- I will be jacked for the future of the Bills. The defensive staff will have continuity and we will be getting a Chan Gailey level Offensive mind with a Marvin Lewis toughness and bravado...
-
Its definitely not an inspiring hire on the surface Max. I agree with you there. I do feel better about this coaching search than any of the others the Bills have conducted the past 11 years. To rationalize how Hue could succeed, I keep thinking back that if Donahoe would have convinced Marvin Lewis to come to Buffalo -- the last decade plus would have looked very different. Hue is Marvin Lewis of the offensive side -- intense, motivating, brash, a large ego, arrogant -- but he builds players up rather than tearing them down. He is creative. When he and Gruden shared an office at the University of the Pacific 20 years ago -- they would drive each other crazy coming up with new ways to out scheme a defense...
-
If the Pegulas talked to Jon Gruden for advice -- he told them to hire Hue...not saying this happened but I think Gruden would have told them that EJ can develop and that Hue would be the best coach to put EJ in situations to succeed.

That's a great update Ice. Keeping the prayers up.

Tom's long-term career aspirations include a stint as a political back slapper/baby kisser...

His seemingly hateful avatar pic of Belichick and Brady is masking a deep fondness.

Everything that I read about Hue's time in Oakland is that he is a cocky hard-ass but he builds players up rather than tearing them down...he takes the approach of empowering them to help them reach their goals rather than berating and threatening them. Its the antithesis of what we are hearing about Marrone. I would be excited about this hire as well. Looking at personalities doing the interviewing -- Hue will remind Whaley of Cowher (Ego, hard ass, amazingly positive and confident) and the Pegulas of friends/entrepreneurs from the oil business and Ted Nolan. Russ will be the outlier....after Marrone Russ will be tentative about anyone with any hint of arrogance. Russ is probably pushing for Frank Reich as we speak...confident, but humble.

Mike Silver (NFL.com) is a Hue supporter. Had a twitter exchange with him last night about Hue. Mike believes Hue got royally jobbed by Reggie McKenzie and Mark Davis in Oakland and will do well in his next job. Hue's preferred DC would be Mike Zimmer but since Zimmer is not available Hue would aggressively pursue keeping Schwartz -- likely enhancing his role. Finally, Mike said Hue feels like there is enough skill position talent on O in Buffalo to work with to get the Offense on the right track but would want competition at the QB spot. Didn't ask about Spiller or the line. If you haven't read Mike's story on Aaron Rodgers -- its a great one by the way...http://www.nfl.com/labs/rr/toastoftitletown/toastoftitletown

Dear Diary, Just had a nice dinner with Arthur Blank. Met that !@#$ GM Thomas Dimitroff as well. He won't be around long after Blank offers me a lot of his Home Depot stock. I hate arrogant GMs like Dimitroff and Whaley. Art (he said I could call him that) asked a lot of weird questions. Like if I read about what Bobby Petrino did to the Falcons? He also asked about my use of 360's -- and asked if I would share the 360 that !@#$ Casullo did on me at Syracuse. He also asked if he could send Jerry Hughes, Mike Williams, Kraig Urbik, EJ Manuel, CJ Spiller, Sammy Watkins, Nate Hackett, etc, etc...360 assessments profiling me. Not sure where he was going with this... Anyway, it feels really good to be wanted and wined and dined like this. When Art asked me to take the cab back to the Days Inn he even offered to pay the fare. He told me I would be meeting with others in the organization tomorrow. Mentioned he had to check his calendar to see if he could make more time for me. A great night in Atlanta! Doug the Falcon..

She is dead on when she says this team needs something....the thing lacking is confidence. Marrone changed the culture by berating the team -- they played scared...particularly on O.

I would love this.....having watched him build Duke's program these last few years has been impressive...He would be my #1 college coach choice. He took nothing and made it spectacular. Talk about a Saint... -
Dear Diary, Bobby Petrino just called .. he is jealous I have stolen his reputation. Now looking for a hot ex-volleyballer to give a ride on my chopper......heh heh... Douggernaut...

Not sure what this relates to but George Seifert's wife has reported him missing....... Said he was kidnapped by 4 masked intruders yesterday from his San Francisco home...said she has gotten hang up calls traced to San Diego, Vail, Lawrence KS.... -
January 5th Dear Diary, See I knew it--it was obviously obvious...yesterday Arthur Blank and George Halas McCaskey called me....the Falcons and the Bears want me as well. So screw you Buffalo Bills. STFU Manesh Mehta, the Jets aren't the only option for this Bronx bred tough guy. Then this morning one of my favorite guys -- someone who its obviously obvious that I love, #22, Freddy -- said some hurtful things about me. How it was time to forget me and that I was just another guy now. Well Freddy -- did you get my texts, my private twitter messages. Where ever I end up I was going to trade for you, because trading for you will be MY CHOICE (!@#$ing Whaley) and have you at my side. Freddy also said little Nathaniel was talking behind my back...how it was obviously obvious that little Nathaniel was a brilliant offensive mind and that I was holding him back. Well Nathaniel you and Freddy can just have your little St. Doug bash fest. I will take the high road and be the martyr I am. Be it NY, Atlanta or Chicago -- I will have it better in my next stop. I wonder if I could coach all three teams at once or maybe even coach God's football team???? St. Doug to God's Coach--but only obviously obvious if God gives me control over personnel... St. Doug...

We could be moving this offseason.....put all this in !@#$ing perspective....Happy !@#$ing New Year. -
Polian's already influencing the process. His ESPN schedule is pretty light work. He doesn't have to be officially announced as Football COO to be involved.

I learned a lot from Coach Marrone...how to use the word "obviously" properly was obviously the one that will obviously stick with me the most.

I heard the year is going to change when the clock strikes midnight in your time zone.....just a vicious rumor. I just got used to writing 14 in the year slot...I hate when this happens.
