  1. Nice video (though I had to mute it, not because of the NSFW lyrics, but because I'm a music snob). And I agree with most of your conclusions. One thing about his runs which result from broken plays/scrambling away from pressure---I think he's still looking for an open receiver and not fully committed to running on a number of those attempts. There's a fine line between not staying on the play and waiting too long. In preseason, for example, Johnny Football took off too early and too often, IMO, That might work for him, but they were bad decisions for most QBs. I'm hoping EJ finds the right balance here. Steve Young comes to mind as a guy who seemingly always made the right decision about when to run and when to keep the pass alive.
  2. Yes, I understood and agree with your assessment. I'd love to see the methodology and actual instrument and full data.
  3. Really. Fortunately there are some very nice areas not too far away. Ponte Vedra, St Augustine, etc. The sample size is small. And I think the question is whether the sample size is representative (which of course we have no idea) is important. But it's more complicated than that. Unlike sampling, say a bowl of multicolored beads, when surveying people things like wording or questions, ordering of questions, etc, is important. Any problem with those human elements can result in a study that might be relatively representative, and have a reasonable margin of error, but may be completely useless when it comes to the answering the questions for which it was intended.
  4. Here are some details: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/06/05/the-full-kaepernick-contract-details/
  5. Never been a Mallett fan and nothing I've seen from him has changed my mind. If he is cut, then even Belicheat couldn't find a way to make him into a decent backup, and that has never been a problem for the Pats*, The drafting of a QB in the 2nd round this year was a sign that Mallet is a bum. With that said, it couldn't hurt to bring him in for a look-see, though I'm guessing another team will step up and offer him a contract.
  6. I was under the impression Kaepernick had a very team friendly contract, the way it is structured.
  7. Yes, but had we kept Fitz, and Stevie, it wouldn't be dead cap $. The all those complaining would be very happy. Right?
  8. Much of this is true. But Spiller still doesn't have an agent, so I doubt anything is getting done there for awhile. Again it could have played a roll this year, but it looks like it did not. And think, next year, with a very low dead cap number, you can RAVE about how well the Bills manage their $$. (Somehow I doubt you will do that, though.)
  9. Because he wasn't very good, got called for an inordinate number of penalties and was a giant pain in the butt, but most accounts Basically he sucked, and nobody missed him until the Miami incident. Now some want him back because he isn't here. (We have a lot of posters like that.) Yes, I'm sure you'd love that.
  10. I believe most teams with "franchise QBs" are indeed cash-to-cap.
  11. Both? QB and what else?
  12. So, they could have paid more than required for certain players? They could have given Byrd an unreasonably high contract in order to keep him (and then when he decided to hold out, cut him and eat an even bigger dead cap amount)? It's hard to use basic economic principles with respect to the NFL, which has it's own set of rules and culture. (For example, most business don't require you to spend a specific amount of $$ on one aspect of the business--in this case 90% of the cap on labor). All of that dead money could have had a debilitating impact on the team, had they been in a position to make a huge FA signing (for example) and not been able to do it. As it turned out, I don't think it actually impacted any decisions.
  13. To my eyes, he didn't really distinguish himself in preseason, this year. If you have a guy on the roster just for kickoffs, the kickoff should be near perfect time after time. Unless the Bills were working on return coverage, I don't think he did that enough to justify a roster spot.
  14. Shhh. It's a secret.
  15. Didn't Flaco get a SB ring, and win MVP of the game, as recently as two years ago? How does he make your list? I think the list demonstrates that the QB doesn't win games---well, there are a few where the QB does a lot to win the game, but they aren't credited with wins and losses the way baseball pitchers are. But having a great QB makes a big difference if the team around him is good.
  16. Are you looking to list EJ ten times?
  17. St Augustine Beach has been lucky with regard to hurricanes (and now I'm regretting I put that in writing). The coast does something special here, and we miss most of the terrible storms. But I agree, I prefer a blizzard as I prefer snow to rain---AND---a blizzard is the ideal excuse to skip school, work (many jobs, anyway) and have a blizzard party! When I live in WNY my neighbors would get angry with me as I was singing and whistling, as I cleaned off my car in the morning. "WTF are you so happy about?" they'd ask. BTW, this is the same study that was cited here earlier. It didn't ask "What is the worst place to play in the NFL?" It seemingly asked "The only way I'd play for [name a team] is if they doubled my salary." Those are two very different questions, though I would agree the results from either aren't likely to be positive. They surveyed "100 pius players" and got 82 players. Was the sample representative of all NFL players? Were veterans more heavily weighted? Did rookes return at a higher rate? Let's see the the entire questionnaire. The ordering of the questions plays an important part in the answer to following questions. I could go on, but I will stop. Bottom line is, without these kinds of details, survey results are basically useless.
  18. As a good chunk of that dead money goes away at the end of the season, they can extend Glenn or re-sign spiller next year. Spiller still doesn't even have an agent. Again, I agree this is mis-management, but due to the timing of the hit, I think it happened at the perfect time.
  19. The weather is bad in Buffalo? I miss it. I think the weather sucks in Jacksonville, as I find 90+ degree weather (with a heat index over 100) to be intolerable. Give me a bilzzard any day! Anybody with me? [crickets.....]
  20. I suppose one or two of these guys (Macky Mac, perhaps) makes the PS. Cut down day is always sad news for someone,. The typically, at this stage anyway, it should come as no surprise. With regard to Hopkins, since he was a KO specialist, shouldn't he have kicked off much better than Carpenter?
  21.   :worthy: :worthy:
  22. While this suggests mis-management at some point (or would if it wasn't the NFL), I fail to see how this is relevant this season. The team still has plenty of cap room to sign someone should it need to. Most of that dead cap goes away at the end of the season. What's the big deal here? An owner might object to wasting money (fans shouldn't really care, IMO) but that's not an issue right now for the Bills. I suppose this happened at the perfect time, actually.
  23. I know,. The way he posts it's like he's on/off meds of some sort. There are other less flattering explanations, of course. I have a suspicion this particular poster used to go under a different username, but I can't quite pinpoint it.
  24. Excellent analysis with great factual support! Here's a question: Why did you bother to quote the entire OP when your response was completely unrelated to the post. The OP dealt in details. You deal in none.
  25. Just to nip this in the bud as it has been mis-recalled a few times on the board, that was a fumble, not an interception. EJ had one interception and that was on the pass where Chandler fell down. The pass to CJ could have been better, for sure, but it wasn't terrible and was, in fact, caught.
