NEW HEAD COACH: Rex Ryan! It's Official!
The Dean replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup. But the defense they ran this year, with Schwartz was even better. -
Spend the entire draft of QB's

Does it really matter. They are all stupid ideas. -
Saw that. Good. I think Roman can help the offense more than Rex can help the team---as long as Rex doesn't meddle.
-
Excellent, Did they confirm to you he has accepted the position?
-
Is the Roman hiring official?

Love Matt T, so I will read the article. HATE quote like this from our HC. OK if other guys talk like this, but not our guy, IMO.

Oops. Replace Schwartz with Marrone. -
Notice how really successful franchises (like the Pats* for instance) don't use that logic? "Most likely nothing" means "possibly something". Does the team get anything positive (in the wins column) from appearing? Take a look at who participates in that show. With the exception of the Ravens, no team has won the Super Bowl since the show went on the air (and they appeared in 2001). That's not the company the Bills should be keeping. Act like a champ, not a chump!

No, it wasn't. It came from the Bills. Almost certain, Can't give you any proof, unfortunately. But my source (his information isn't quite as extensive as it was in past years--but what he has is solid) says Marrone was getting a small extension and was expected to announce he was returning. The decision to leave caught everyone by surprise at OBD. I should note this came BEFORE La Canfora had it, and my guy has no connection to Marrone or his agent. Edited because I screwed up. More coffee please. -

I agree with this. Pegula is going out and getting what he wants in a very directed fashion. I can't complain about that, even though I think hiring Rex is a mistake for this team. It could very well work out. If it doesn't, Pegs can eat the contract. Anyway. Welcome Rex. Try not to screw things up! -
Put cameras in front of a media whore HC---what could go wrong?

Agreed. But judging on how his coaching declined in his first stint, I'm less that optimistic. Still I am hopeful. -

A very weird way. Somehow when i think of Rex, "stability" isn't the word that springs to mind. I have stated, this might be where Rex helps the Bills as they have never had much "Swagger". And Rex has far too much of it, IMO. I can't really see how he adds anything else of use to this team as a HC, but if that rubs off on the team it could work. -
OBD on the other hand, is One Bills Drive. Let's start a thread for every initial combo we can think of. Way cool!

Agreed, the defensive numbers look impressive. The wins do not. And again, he was dealing with healthy RB, a better OL and two QBs most thought were better than what the Bills were working with. Rex ain't coming here to fix the D. -

Total yards allowed. Bills ranked 4th in the NFL. Jets ranked 6th. Rushing yards. Jets ranked 5th in the NFL. Bills ranked 11th Passing yards: Bills ranked 3rd in the NFL, Jets ranked 14th That's not sucking. Those are very comparable stats. And a defense that should have certainly helped to win more than four games. -

Typically with coaches and players the past is a decent indicator of the future. But there is no guarantee Rex will even give the Bills two good years. Then again, he might be a raging success. I sure hope they hired Rex with better logic than "maybe he won't flop because things could change". -

You mean, he took a team that was 9-7 the year before taking over to another 9-7 season with a high 1st round draft pick QB? And they improved in his next season, though the end result was the same---a loss in the conference championship. Those seasons were won mostly by D and adequate play by Sanchez. Since then, Rex has been, mostly, a disaster as a HC. This past season he was pitiful. Had a great D--like the Bills. Had poor QB from a young QB and a vet --like the Bills. Had decent OL play--not like the Bills. Had healthy starting RBs nearly all season--not like the Bills. And his team TANKED. It was an embarrassment of a HC job. And please, don't tell me Rex was a lame duck. He lost the job, THIS YEAR---by sucking harder than in the past two. Maybe that was his plan. But my biggest concern is that Rex brings nothing to the table that the Bills need now. They already have a great D. In that regard, I think Rex can only get in the way. I can't see him improving it at this point. And he is useless as an offensive coach. This was a celebrity hire. Nothing more, IMO. -

A LOT more than conjecture. But as Bill Belicheat* can tell you, a lot can happen over night. -

Honestly I have no idea if Rex is an "honorable" blowhard. Judging by his team's performance most of this year, I questioned if he actually had the locker room. But they did play like they were trying to save his job late in the year (too late apparently). But then again, Marrone's players, and Schwartz's. played hard for them, too, and you think both of them dishonorable. There are plenty of mercenary coaches out there, who change teams at the drop of the hat, and some of them seem to be quite successful and are very good with players . So it is hard for me to follow this logic. And I wasn't trying to insult you, I just have some trouble following your posts. Might be my fault. And yes, please send the fungi as I prefer them to the harder stuff. I tell ya, online translators really are not up to snuff. -
Can we petition to have mike rodak fired?

True, when it comes to facts. The opinions he makes up himself. -

No, I'm a Bills fan first and foremost. And I will root for Rex, no matter how distasteful that is to me. Unlike many here, who root for guys they don't like to fail, I root for anyone associated with the Bills to succeed. And i will give Rex every opportunity to win me over. That hill, however, is a long hard climb. Honestly, I think this hire is Pegula's way of saying the Bills are not doing business as usual. They are willing to spend the big bucks and go after the big names. And i have to applaud that approach. I just feel they picked the wrong guy (for several reasons) as their first step in that direction. I can have my opinion. But once he is enshrined, I'm on board. When I worked for a company, I was a team player---but not a group-think guy. If I disagreed with a path I'd voice my discontent until the day the decision was official. Once it was decided, I did everything in my power to make sure that decision was successful (unless I thought it was illegal or unethical). Same thing here. -

Do you think they celebrated with a bottle of Lafite Rothschild? Maybe they couldn't foot the bill for that, and settled on Barefoot Cabernet.
