i agree there will be more balanced sack numbers by the front 4. Getting sacks is a team effort so if they feel they need to double or triple team Willaims then that frees up the other guys who are rushing. Like I said in my previous posts---the number will be higher only if the offense builds multiple scores leads which turns the 4th quarter into pass only so the pass rushers can just ignore running plays and rush the passer.

All it means is in camp it sounds as if he wanted Brad Smith to sit with the QBs a bit to learn that as being a third/emergency QB...now the second half of camp they play him as a WR and special teams. They likely keep Smith and they likely keep Potter. If Potter fails in getting touchbacks with wind of november and december he gets cut then and they pull someone off the practice squad.

Its not a joke..... All jobs that you can have have workmans compensation clauses either governed by the feds or the states that protects employees from getting hurt on the job. i dont know all the details in this case.....but something like this should be governed in the labor contract. Its the reason why you hear about players getting an injury buy out release because its basically giving them workmans comp for their onjury due to their job. Its also the issue behind the long term head injury stuff Its likely Tupa claims he was hurt, the redskins just say he was cut but didnt report the injury thus tupa didnt get compensation for his injury on the job. What kind of work do you guys do??? Imagine if you are injured on te job doing what you are paid to do....

I dot see it happening because he isnt the only one who will get to the QB. One advantage that Bruce Smoth had was playing with the K-gun offense. They would build large leads early like 17+-0 which then makes team go into catch up mode and then go one dimensional. If the Bills dont build large leads in games there wil not be the large sack numbers if the team isnt throwing every down.

Russell Wilson to start Friday

Actually Leinhart got a raw deal in Arizona. Im sorry but given the complex defenses out there it take a QB longer than a season to become good. He was actually doing well for his level of experience but he has Kurt Warner on his team. He had a great opportunity last year because Shaub went down. Sanchez is ssstill young as a QB and playing in the pressure cooker of NNYC with Tebow as a backup will be a disaster for him this year. I am willing to bet had he gone to another team not in NYC he would be a good QB. I think you need 4 yrs for a QB to fully develop. As for the Wilson pick....you want to argue the woulda couldah shouldah...have at it....the Bills concerns were more on a WR than a QB in terms of need. Draftting someone 3rd round or higher puts implied pressure on the starting QB. Does he have potential---sure---but you need execution---and that is the difference. many players show these flashes or one year wonders then neve show it again. -
I agree...Gabbert after a full training camp has looked alot better. If he seems to be a bust this season then I could see such a deal happening.

Russell Wilson to start Friday

I live in the Seattle market so I know a tad more about this than most of you.... Russell Wilson will not start the season. The coach does want to see how he can handle playing against the first team defense before week 4 rest period where many starters appear to sit out. They travel to arizona then host dallas and green bay. a difficult start for them. Flynns experience with pro defenses will benefit. Flynn has played fine in the preseason given the fact that the starting group of WR/TE have been injured and not playing. -
Annoying "NFLSpeak". Mine is "no question".

Dont complain about that....look at Lindy Ruff....out with an upper/lower body injury. -
Thigpen stays on just in case....besides you need a body to get beat up at QB in game 4. Beind a waived/injured release I wonder what the rules are for them being able to go to the PS

Who do you think Buffalo will sign and look at that another teams cuts/releases? Given how this board is concerned about the DT position...would Buffalo sign DT Shawn Smith who was released by Tennessee (who played with KC a few years before) http://espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp12/story/_/id/8292290/tennessee-titans-deep-dt-spot-release-veteran-shaun-smith

Lots of "experimentation". What do you think?
djp14150 replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i disagree... They keep both...Mcintyre is a big special teams player. Dickenson works as an HB/TE role. The teams will likely keep Dickenson plus two TEs...Chandler and another. TE Caussain is on the PuP. -
Speedo Dedes is the LA Lakers play by play guy. He works the first part of the season until basketball starts then works on heavier weeks if the Lakers schedule allows.

Hey gailey made an effort to try and Keep Fewell as DC instead of changing him this transition wouldnt have taken this long. The Bills defense in 2009 was not all that bad....they were actually a pretty decent bunch. Looking back at games the defense kept the team in it but they had been on the field so much they got tired. In all the games except two of the losses they led, tied, or within one possesion score and had the ball in the fourth quarter. Had they had a better offense they would have had a respectable record. Gaileys mistake was switching to a 3-4...that takes time to change such a scheme. Had he kept the defense for a year and just focused on the offense 2010 would have been a much better year.

What I think happened on Sunday/Monday....... The Bills coaches went through their roster and started ranking players on the roster to decide who were the final 53. they likely have a core number of players per position such as this: offense= 22 2 QB, 4 RB, 8 OL, 8 WR/TE defense= 22 7 DL, 6 LB, 9 DB 3 ST 47 players..... from there they keep their best 6 players. based on special teams, value/salary, potential, likelihood of them being able to sign them to the PS. under different scenarios in ranking players they found Merriman (Moore passed Merriman) just wasnt going to make the team because other players were more valuable......thus his release. Had he been paying the league minimum for his experience he may have been kept. This is also Why i think Kelsey is on the bubble because of his salary. Looking at the roster there appears to be some depth with OL, LB, and CB. in the scenarios they may feel the need to carry 9/10 OL, 7 LB, or 9/10 DB. They want to hold on to some of their picks this year in the draft (OT Sanders from FSU and the CB Brooks from LSU)...thus taking up extra roster spots. Or as some people are hoping they wanted to open up a spot for Tavaris Jackson..

Moore played DE in a 4-3 defense with USC where 9 of the 11 starters were drafteed...including him by another team....Because of injuries/coach changes et all he didnt work out with those teams.
-
My gut says there is something more to this.....injury...he doesnt appear to have the push off strength/speed back unless Merriman was the one who asked to be traded to a 3-4 team. With the 2 weeks left he has a chance to make another team. What does this seem to say....the team is looking to only carry 7/8 DL....4 DE and 3/4 DT. Other players at DE clearly passed him. They are looking at their roster with cuts and all and thinking they need to keep more LBs than they need because they feel they may have more talent there or they are more willing to play special teams.
-
this is crazy nuts..... Why would Minnesota trade him?? What sort of depth do they have behind him? I guess in theory anyone could be traded for the right price. His asking price given his age would be a #1 at least.

I dont believe its true.... I have seen numerous references to the rules. There is conflicting info on the IR list.....When on the IR list you are prohibited from being part of the team in any way Last year Easily was reported as being on the IR...but technically he likely wasnt placed on the Ir because the issue was NOT FOOTBALL RELATED due to a heart issue. Under the rules he shouldnt have gone the Ir but something else...thus because its a non football related injury or illness thos year would not count against him. If the Bills didnt do that...i bet they can get a league waiver for him given his circumstance because the issue with his heart prevented him from playing in 2011.

Who will be int he top 5 of the 2013 draft.....teams I figure will have a 5-11 record or worse... Dolphins, Rams, Browns, Jags, and Colts. Arizona was .500 last year with the same QB players. They dont plummet that far.

I think i saw him on a corner in Winslow, AZ.....

Guys who looked okay last night and who didn't
djp14150 replied to bowery4's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In all honesty...I think the Bills predominatly just go with 2 LBs on the field for most plays where a LB is subbed for a third CB or 5th DL also Sheppard in part was left on the field for more plays because the role of the MLB is the defensive captain/play caller Something i agree with....I feel they should be lining up TJ Graham, Roosevelt, Hagan, et all in with the first unit and see how they perform against the starting DBs....same with using the back up CBs against the first team offense of the opponent. -
Who are the Bills 9 D-Line?
djp14150 replied to NC Bills Brigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Moore and Merriman are kept. Merriman can also be used in a linebacker position. In plays he is lined up as an OLB where for confusion they either blitz him or someone else and then he drops back in a linebacker role. With the DL I dont think it will matter much of the DE/DT where they may just as part of the rotation they rotate players as part of mismatches. Simillarly with mario they have 4 DL on the field and he is more of a roamer who rushes wherever to cause blocking assignment confusioin. I think the ones that are safe are..... Mario, Anderson, Williams, Dareus, Merriman, Kelsey, one DT( ??) and one DE (Moore). Do they keep a 9th DL ??? It comes down to keeping what they think is the best player between a DL vs other defensive positions and who can play on special teams. -
Wildcat: I just threw up in my mouth.
djp14150 replied to MikeSpeed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Vince young adds the passing element to a wildcat formation. He can run and he can throw better than Brad Smith. I would not be surprised if the Bills actually cut Brad Smith and keep Vince Young and Thigpen. -
The reason to have a no huddle set up is to attack against teams theat are big with situational substitutions.
