  1. Thank you for the links. So we still took a very large cap hit this year, but should be free and clear next year. What would have happened if we kept him and traded him after the 2014 season? I assume a smaller cap hit, but a cap hit nonetheless I guess. There should be no excuses for not resigning particular key players next year then.
  2. Let's be honest here. You aren't searching for a solid backup QB. You have already moved on from EJ and are looking to find the next diamond in the rough. If EJ got injured again, are we really expecting 5th round rookie to come in and what? Win games until EJ gets back? Not that fans matter or anything when it comes to decision making but the Tuel fiasco last year is proof fans can't be trusted to wait patiently. More than a few people argued with me (in person) that we should give Tuel a shot after that preseason game. "What do we have to lose". Quite a bit actually when developing a QB on the fly.
  3. Don't we take some kind of cap hit anyway? Can someone provide a source or explanation for the supposed $8-10 million cap hit Johnson would have had on us? It looks like the Niners wouldn't have that high, but I am admittedly not a cap expert http://www.ninersnation.com/2014/5/9/5700374/stevie-johnson-trade-49ers-salary-cap-2014 What about Williams? Do you think we keep him for 6+ million next year?
  4. I think the reason people are tired of this discussion is the following - "The next guy on the list is always leagues better than our starter. I mean how could they be worse?" With that rational, no I don't want us to pick up another developmental QB, because the first interception Manuel throws, we will hear "told you so, time to give player X a shot". We need to put our full confidence behind Manuel and give him the weapons and protection he needs to succeed. If Manuel doesn't turn out, putting the 6th round QB in is not likely to make us win, so you have a choice. Stick with Manuel and put all of your support behind him. Or hope you find a Tom Brady in the rough. Which do you really prefer? Which do you think is more likely?
  5. I agree, I usually picked him up in Fantasy as a solid back up WR. He vultured quite a few touchdowns from Jackson. That said, he tore his hamstring, and is moving to a new system. I would qualify my statement that he is unproven with the fact that he is unproven on our team, and has a hamstring injury. Not to mention, weren't half of our starting receivers injured at some point or another last year? I agree I am having a hard time coming to grips with it. I just don't understand, what are they trying to do as a team though? Despite his on the field antics years ago, I haven't heard of any issues he has caused. And as far as we know, he hasn't had a negative impact on the locker room. Maybe you are right, maybe he was disrupting the locker room, disrupting the team, but I just don't see it. It seemed like he loved playing for Buffalo. I am putting words in your mouth, so If you don't think he was disrupting the team, then is this "vision" by the coaches really worth getting rid of johnson? Oh well, what is done is done. I was just looking forward to seeing that spectacular receiving core together for at least a year. They will still be good for sure, just one less pretty good target for Manuel.
  6. Setting aside whether he is average or not, the fact is he was the only proven receiver on our team. I agree Watkins, and Woods should be good, but Goodwin, and Williams are still question marks. At the very least they should have waited until after the season. We aren't better after trading him. We took another weapon away from Manuel. I have a buddy thats a niners fan, and he is pretty happy that they landed Johnson for a conditional 4th. Enjoy the playoffs Stevie!
  7. Haha, we could go round and round. That is why I said its a matter of perception. I heard a rumor the Patriots offered a 3rd for Stevie Johnson at some point? Is this true? Or is this old news just resurfacing?
  8. And we have 3 less picks. If you bought a car for $20,000 and put $12,000 down. You would not say you paid $8,000 for the car.
  9. This is clearly about perception. Picking Sammy Watkins at 9 (if he fell to us) comes at the cost of not picking another player. So yes that pick counts towards what we paid for him.
  10. Right. We have Sammy Watkins at the cost of this years 1st round pick. Now what happened to next years 1st and 4th? They don't count towards that cost?
  11. Why do we need only one good receiver on the team? This is akin to the falcons going - Well we have Julio Jones now....time for Roddy White to go.
  12. So would you say that since they net out for Gilbert that he didn't cost them any picks? I mean they got an extra 1st in return. So Gilbert didn't cost them anything? Or did he cost them 1 pick?
  13. We didn't give up or 1st round pick to the Browns. You are 100% right on that. We spent it though. We spent this years, next years 1st and next years 4th. Those 3 picks are gone to select one player. How can you argue this? Again I didn't have a problem with it, until we gave away our best receiver (until proven otherwise) to do it. This could all fall apart very easily if Watkins doesn't turn out, or Williams does something stupid, or isn't deemed with 6 million next year.
  14. How do you figure? Johnson had more yards, and tds with less games played. I won't argue that Woods might have more upside, but statistically Johnson was better last year despite playing through injuries.
  15. No. We no longer have a fourth round pick in 2015, and we no longer have this years 1st, and next years 1st. All for Watkins. (Which I didn't have a problem with, until we got rid of our best receiver (until proven otherwise) to recoup the 4th round pick)
  16. Because we spent 2 first round picks. We spent this years 1st, and next years 1st. We aren't getting next years back. So the Bills used two firsts and a fourth to grab Watkins.
  17. This is just absurd. What if Williams doesn't work out? What if he isn't worth $6+ million? We would be down to Woods, Watkins, and Goodwin. We essentially just spent two 1st rounders and stevie Johnson on Watkins. Overkill?
  18. I guess what I am asking is why you have so much faith in Williams? Or Goodwin? Why wouldn't it be: 1. Woods 2. Watkins 3. Johnson 4. Williams 5. GoodWin As for the Williams/Johnson comparison, the stats tell us Johnson has had better years as our #1 every year despite mediocre QB play. Williams played with Freeman, who wasn't horrible, and opposite Jackson. He is also an absolute unknown to our team. We could just as easily be letting Williams go next year when his salary hits. You are most certainly jumping the gun with throwing away Johnson. We have nothing to gain by trading him right now.
  19. Alphadawg, you are falling into the hype and are jumping with no chute. You are placing 4 receivers who have not done better than Stevie Johnson a single year ahead of him on the depth chart. I have the same high hopes for our receiver core too, but I would rather have Stevie than a 4th round pick.
  20. Everyone keeps talking about having too many receivers now. What happens if we determine Williams isn't worth the $6million next year? In addition do we really take graham or Easley over Stevie? People are jumping the gun. Let's see how they all work together this year before we start throwing good players away.
  21. Is the handbook actually a set of rules? Or is it just tips for them? It reads like a set of tips to avoid problems.
  22. I think the problem people are having with statements such as the one you quoted is that people freak out when OBD attempts to make rules that may reduce the level of drunken idiots. Obviously, at that point OBD is just trying to ruin their fun. But attempting to have a family friendly environment is considered just craziness. People "should just leave their kids at home". Maybe it's because they know it won't change, or what, but its just nonsensical to hear the words "Don't bring your kid to the game, the drunken idiots might be bothered/bother him/her" I'm guilty of tailgating myself but I agree it is just out of control there sometimes. I would love to take my nephew to games but the crowd turns me off quite a bit to that. Sabres games are much better, I genuinely wonder why...probably the tailgating aspect.
  23. Pardon my lack of post history, but you are just being absurd. Jackson has no history of this. There was 1:52 left in the (EDIT: First half, second quarter haha) second half, he was clearly looking for a ref to quickly throw the ball to. It shouldn't have been a penalty or a fine. Stop being ridiculous.
  24. This right here. I don't understand how people think he will receive a top contract next year if he doesn't play well this year. I don't think it's even guaranteed he would receive a top contract from another team this year if we didn't tag him.
