That's what happens when candidates let their guard down and speak candidly. Rookie mistake for sure, and it shows that prejudice and racial preconceptions are a two-way street. I'm certain there was no malice behind what he said, just a mental slip-up which shows none of us are above that sort of thing.

Reverend Wrights post 9/11 sermon
yall replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I fully understand the point he was trying to make, but I hate it wen people use falsehoods to back up their claims. It's the Al Gore example. Yeah, we should be careful how we tread, but don't make sh*t up to prove your point. For starters we didn't 'bomb' Grenada. He makes it seem as though we went into these countries and just started dropping 500lb bombs all wili-nily, which wasn't the case. Also, it wouldn't help his point, so I'm sure that's why he failed to mention that many of the people living in these countries supported US intervention in both cases. -
Reverend Wrights post 9/11 sermon

The main problem I have with this guy is how fast and loose he is with the facts. Especially his misrepresentation of the facts regarding Panama, Grenada, and in other sermons, the spread of HIV/AIDS. In fact, given the amount of money the US has thrown at combating AIDS in Africa, that point is especially irritating. Misinformation like that helps the virus take a foothold in Africa where a good number of Priests and Pastors are telling people that not only did whitey create AIDS, but that condoms are the means by which he spreads it. That type of ignorance is unforgivable, especially when this dude obviously is smart enough to know better. -
Don't let these guys get you riled up - they like to ignore things like the amount of home your $ will buy and don't mention the STAR exemptions which greatly reduce the amount of taxes you pay on your home. Like the linked article showed quite clearly (with sources and stats as opposed to Brie and wine fueled anti-NY tirades) that it is actually pretty affordable to live in WNY. I won't argue that the taxes aren't too high, or that our job market is weak, but there are economic advantages to living here if you have a decent job or marketable skill set.

He is most likely retiring so that he won't be subject to the soon-to-be law that will prohibit these guys from working with lobbyists for (I think) 6 years after retiring. Just keeping the chance for a money grab alive.

Five years on you still look the same

If we had bombed and killed more of the poor we could have won. Kinda like what Nixon began doing with B-52's at the end of 'Nam. -
What kind of dog do you have?
yall replied to In space no one can hear's topic in Off the Wall Archives
A beagle and a basset hound. -
Oh, I totally agree - that just happened to be the first link I found that contradicted the assertion. Edit - And to clarify - we are lookng at a statistical tie for the most part right now. But a lot of things will change between now and November. Plus people say one thing in a poll, and then act all goofy when they are pulling levers.

A favorite tactic of the anti-Obama crowd
yall replied to Bishop Hedd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
He was a member of the Texas State Senate. Come on BlueFire, you should know that! At any rate, while it was foolish of this guy to go on TV to support a candidate about who he knew very little, like the artcile said, Matthews is a wind-bag, just looking for those 'gotcha' moments. -
Actually, maybe he did, if you catch my drift...

Wearing a hat during the National Anthem
yall replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Nothing shows more respect to the flag and anthem than yelling to people about their headgear and starting a fight while the song is being performed. -

I'm glad so many morons idea of respecting the anthem (and by way of proxy, American values) is to think that it's ok to force someone to do something. If you want to respect what people have died for, try respecting people's rights to freedom of speech and expression. Apparently the irony is completely lost on you dolts. I seriously hope one of you in the "I'll take it off for you" crowd gets your !@#$ing nose broken if you ever were to try it. Oh, but wait, it will probably never happen since I'm willing to bet you guys talk a lot of sh*t, but don't actually have the balls to back it up. -
Do they? I never thought he ever gave them the choice. He just shows up whenever there is a chance to make more waves.

A chicken in every pot and an iPod for every kid
yall replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I checked the date on the article, and it doesn't seem to be an April fools joke. That's crazy. If the proposal said "bike" or "chemistry book" I could comprehend the rationale, but #$% ipod's? -
Which part? The "oh how will I explain this to my poor daughter" part, or the "I don't know if I can keep this couch" part?

True, I hadn't thought about that! One thing I've learned from the casino folks I know, a good portion of the Bills are regular at the casino. He used to tell me what a horrible gambler Travis Henry was, and that he would make the dumbest bets. One thing about Everett that he said was pretty funny happened earlier last year. My friend picked up KE in a late round in his fantasy draft, as a backup TE, but eventually dropped him. One day his fiancee (also a casino dealer) had KE at a table and he wasn't tipping well so she apparently let him know that her man "just dropped you from his fantasy team". Always makes me laugh.

Nothing earth shattering here, but got some mild "scoops" (if you could even call them that) on Everett and Thomas yesterday. One of my friends works at the casino in the Falls and sees a lot of the Bills on a regular basis. He mentioned that Everett, who is a regular, looks like he packed on about 20 pounds of muscle and looks "way more cut up and chiseled" according to him. He also mentioned that Thomas was a true gentleman, and is one of the nicest/classiest people that he has met. Like I said, nothing tremendous here, but just little info that I thought some of you might find interesting.

Well, yes and no. From his post: "Israel seems to be just as historically challenged as other nations" He kinda made this specifically about Israel at that point. Since the story and OP had nothing to do with Israel, but the UK, I have to believe he was going out of his way to criticize Israel. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I just found it odd that his first reaction to someone denying the holocost or rewriting history was to say "Oh yeah, well Israel is bad too!!!"
