I don't mind other guys dancing with my girl That's fine, I know them all pretty well But I know sometimes I must get out in the light Better leave her behind with the kids, they're alright The kids are alright Sometimes, I feel I gotta get away Bells chime, I know I gotta get away And I know if I don't, I'll go out of my mind Better leave her behind with the kids, they're alright The kids are alright I know if I go things would be a lot better for her I had things planned, but her folks wouldn't let her I don't mind other guys dancing with my girl That's fine, I know them all pretty well But I know sometimes I must get out in the light Better leave her behind with the kids, they're alright The kids are alright Sometimes, I feel I gotta get away Bells chime, I know I gotta get away And I know if I don't, I'll go out of my mind Better leave her behind with the kids, they're alright The kids are alright, the kids are alright, the kids are alright

Totally agree!!! Yeah... It's a fine line between thank yous and "expecting something in return." Dicey. Yet... Something has to check the moral integrity or corruption, graft, etc... Would run rampant.

Yep! I should have been clearer... Noooo cash, ever! So many people love throwing stuff around... Donuts, pop, even a boater wanted to order a pizza 45 minutes early, then when they came through have it delivered on wall. WTF! Now... If they leave refuse lying around, we have to throw it away. But, even straight up stuff like cans of coffee from the commercial boats are NOT contingent on any expectation of service. Just a thank you. Now... Not to be unfair to the cops... They are thee worst coming through as private citizens... They are always asking for preferential treatment. Trying to buy lunch, etc... One even came in via land, on duty, in uniform... Complaining how he couldn't get through with HazMat cargo. He thought that being off duty, out fishing, that he should have priority... Even pulled the "I gotta get to work card, the watch commander will be mad." WTF... A US Senator or Mayor of Chicago comes through NOT in a local, state, or federal official duty capacity... Thet get in the prescribed queue. More and more of this BS is playing out now than it ever was in my 30 years. People love to name drop. Growing up, my Godfather was a cop in town, I wouldn't DARE use his name if I got a ticket... I would be too embarrassed. Now my sister, LoL... God knows how many times... People bellyaching, invoking some kind of priviledge. Shameless. I think the shameless factor is hardwired in people.

My Hometown I was eight years old and running with a dime in my hand Into the bus stop to pick up a paper for my old man I'd sit on his lap in that big old buick and steer as we drove through town He'd tousle my hair and say son take a good look around This is your hometown, this is your hometown This is your hometown, this is your hometown In `65 tension was running high at my high school There was a lot of fights between the black and white There was nothing you could do Two cars at a light on a saturday night in the back seat there was a gun Words were passed in a shotgun blast Troubled times had come to my hometown My hometown, my hometown, my hometown

It's not really the people... They'd be long gone. Same on a boat. They jump off and swim. It's the blocking of the channel or tying up the train tracks... Let alone the mess or enviro impact. Public servants can receive gratuities. But it has to ethically be done. We take yearly ethics training. The gratuities can't curry favor. I still have to follow the law. There are dollar amounts set. $20 bucks was always the limit. It's closer to $100 now. It CAN'T be cash either. I hope I am making that clear. That's what the gratuity is valued at. NOW, Don's been changing all that in recent years. Lot looser now. In no way shape or form will the gratuity influence the service. Unlike the cops... That take "bribes" through those stickers people put on their cars by the license plates... Just by donating do they think they will get off a ticket? Heck... Some states incorporate them right into plate. What's that suppose to signify? "I donate to cops, so I am trying to influence not getting a ticket written... Look! I paid the graft already!" /smh

Not illegal gratuities under the fed too. Understand. It wasn't a bribe. It was a good act. The equivalent would be a police cruiser pushing a disabled car off train tracks. How would I be arrested for that. Good act.

Gifts for public servants used to be under $20... It's more now... Ethically to $100, I believe now. It was November, they ran out of fuel in the middle of the channel... Had to move them about 3,000 out of harm's way. Anybody capable of moving in a hurry would have been put away for the winter. Big commercial craft still ply the water, even through ice. I had to actually unhook the water circulation (keeps ice from forming around the vessel) systen of our boat before moving it. Any gifts offered can't be at the expense of others served or curry favor in the future. Usually it's stuff like baskets around Christmas time... Stuff like soda, or other things left as refuse. Booze of course can't be opened or consumed on site. It's always been around $30-40 bucks here as long as I can remember. w/tip.

There's a dark and a troubled side of life There's a bright and a sunny side too Though we meet with the darkness and strife The sunny side we also may view Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side Keep on the sunny side of life It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way If we keep on the sunny side of life The storm and its fury break today Crushing hopes that we cherish so dear Clouds and storms will in time pass away The sun again will shine bright and clear Keep on the sunny side of life It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way If we keep on the sunny side of life Let us greet with the song of hope each day Though the moment be cloudy or fair Let us trust in our savior always Who keepeth everyone in his care Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side Keep on the sunny side of life It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way If we keep on the sunny side of life

It's called: Boxing Day in Canada. And isn't N.Jersey a tip happy state. Now... Where does this scenario fit into things: Try getting a plastic boat (in one piece, sure you can probably do it the hard way) through 44 tons of steel and a 6 foot waterfall. You'll wanna tip your local run of the mill neighborhood lock operator so you can be on your merry way. LoL Anyway... People wanna give me stuff all the time, I usually say no thanks. I think ethically it's about $100 bucks now. But, who knows with Donny in office, probably much higher. The one time I towed a broken down yacht through the lock and to the marina... I did take the bottle of Cuervo Gold and 151... Dude was selling the boat and didn't want to leave a stocked bar. LoL... He already ran out the fuel... Why I towed his sorry azz downstream. Now... Leaving "garbage/refuse" on the wall is another story! " I gotta "throw it out."

"Unfortunately, most people tend to associate this spiritual phrase with being emotionally cold and unfeeling. But true non-attachment is quite the opposite: it allows us to live in this world fully, without being attached to people, things or thoughts that create suffering. As the Dalai Lama was once quoted to have said, “Attachment is the origin, the root of suffering; hence it is the cause of suffering.” But we don’t have to sell everything we own and become monks or nuns to practice non-attachment; we simply need to understand the vital importance of letting go." https://lonerwolf.com/non-attachment/ "Non-attachment is not about being a cold or emotionally dead brick wall, instead, it’s about learning how to let go of the thoughts and emotions that create suffering. Once we can stop being so attached to our thoughts, we experience tremendous relief, inner peace, and a pervading sense of joyful well-being. So how do we let go of our thoughts and emotions? We must learn to observe and disentangle ourselves from our thoughts through practices such as mindful awareness, meditation, and self-inquiry. When we can simply allow life to unfold naturally without being attached to outcomes, beliefs, feelings or opinions, then we experience true non-attachment. Picture this process of detachment like being an ice cube that slowly melts down into a puddle of flowing water. Water, like the practice of non-attachment, flows with life effortlessly and peacefully, whereas ice cubes do not. The goal of non-attachment, therefore, is to become like water."

Enlightenment is non-attachment. I am confounded by your remarks. I thought you were a more socially liberal guy. You don't seem like a "gotta win at all costs or you aren't worth anything" kind of person. Second best is sometimes better, right? Why can't you rally around: He wants to dream like a young man With the wisdom of an old man. He wants his home and security, He wants to live like a sailor at sea. Beautiful loser, where you gonna fall? You realize you just can't have it all. He's your oldest and your best friend, If you need him, he'll be there again. He's always willing to be second best, A perfect lodger, a perfect guest. Beautiful loser, read it on the wall And realize, you just can't have it all. ...you can't have it all, you can't have it all, Oh, oh, ... can't have it all. He'll never make any enemies, He won't complain if he's caught in a freeze. He'll always ask, he'll always say please. Beautiful loser, never take it all 'cause it's easier, faster when you fall, You just don't need it all Oh, oh, ... you just don't need it all.

Did you head to Ogdensburg and see what was built in 1959? Was the first nail in fellow Upstate BFLo's economic coffin and opened up Toronto to world-wide trade? -

Yep! We have high water again. Empty barges only draft 2 feet. That mean the other 7-15 feet ride above the water. Only 3 feet to top of our lock wall now. Years ago the rake (bow [or stern] the slants down) skipped over wall, tore railing and took out control house window ledge. This is a rake on an empty barge... This is only drafting 2 feet deep into the water. Easy to skip over a wall, dock, etc... -

Damn right! I am the LockNazi®. Run a tight, orderly shift! In all seriousness... No harbor tugs guiding that ***** -er. Italians are cheap and probably don't want to pay for safety. Oh... Wait... That was a harbor tug pulling the bow.... See all that black diesel soot coming from it's stack... Probably should had two tugs doing the job? No bow thrusters on the ship??? -
