  1. RIP, ragman’s son.
  2. I’ll use a Rob Ray word to critique Rob Ray’s quote about getting thrown to the wolves: that’s “luderous.” Wait, what? Is it possible that JBotts doesn’t know where we are in the season? If he’s two weeks behind, he may be two weeks late for the trade deadline, too. Serioisly though, I heard his WGR spot yesterday and I grow less and less impressed with him each day. I don’t think he’s in command at all.
  3. Slight correction: Hutton 5-13 Johansson 1-14 Just didn’t want to see Carter Hutton cheated out of his superior stat line.
  4. I don’t think I’ve remotely suggested that wins aren’t important or that the better teams have far more of them than the worse teams. That’s plain to see. But points, regardless how they are acquired, are the determinant factor in the standings. If you amass half the points available, you are a .500 team and that’s how the league looks at it. But yeah, win and the points take care of themselves. Much more preferable to be sure. Too fine a point, my man, too fine a point. Good point about ties though.
  5. So, is this just an exercise in new ways to say a team sucks? If I give my example team a 1-2 losing record, it wouldn’t have reflected the idea that having a winning record doesn’t necessarily get you ahead of teams with less wins. But good example or bad example, as long as the NHL awards standings based on points gained out of points available, W/L record just isn’t the final arbiter. Like I said, I can appreciate the argument, but it puts way too fine a point on it.
  6. I appreciate the clarification and I’ve heard that argument over the years. I think it puts way too fine a point on it, though. If the NHL awarded standings placed on W/L records instead of points accumulated, I think it would be more pertinent. But as it stands, a 1-0 team has a winning record but a winless 0-0-3 team is ahead of them in the standings.
  7. 13-13-4 = 30 games, 60 available points. The Sabres got 30 of those 60 points or 50%. That’s .500 and that’s how the NHL looks at it as standings are based on accumulated points and not won/lost records. What am I missing in your formula? Amd just like that, Pysyk ties Evan Rodriguez for goals scored on the season.
  8. Is he willing to run low crossers? If not, he may indeed be another Lee Evans.
  9. Nothing against any of them, but until they DO possess the physical maturity required, I’m not expecting any of them to be top 6 contributors next season. Particularly in the case with Mitts as he’s shown absolutely NOTHING in the way of the dedication and discipline required to put in the work to achieve that change.
  10. Drafting players in hockey is unlike other sports. For many reasons and there’s not reason to get into the weeds with it. Simple fact is the vast majority of players selected after the 2nd pick in a draft take a while to make and help the NHL team that drafted them. The Sabres could lose out the rest of the way, finish with the worst record, and STILL have a better chance of NOT picking in the top THREE, let alone getting the number one overall. And as it stands, this year there is only ONE player in the ENTIRE draft who is projected to have the stuff to step into the league immediately; that being Alexis Lafreniere. The NHL draft is no place to get help to turn things around in the short term. As we’ve seen ourselves with several first round picks who haven’t pannedout over the last eight years. That’s true about Jack, but he came into the league NHL ready and already possessing man strength. Cozens isn’t close to where Jack was physically at the same age.
  11. No doubt that over throw was also Josh like, but in terms of accuracy issues for the first three+ quarters and then dialing up the late 4th quarter heroics, Mahomes resembled Allen far more than Jimmy G did for most of the evening.
  12. Not sure if it’s already been mentioned up thread or not, but I was struck by how much of a Josh Allen-type game that Mahomes had. Little to write home about for the first 50 minutes of the game (played like ass, actually) followed by late 4th quarter heroics to pull it out at the end. Nice. Reid thoroughly out-coached Shanahan, which was nice to see. Especially after Shanny called those bush league timeouts while KC was in victory formation. Speaking of which, I read an article about how Mahomes’s execution of the victory formation cost bettors a TON of money. Apparently, his total rushing yards over/under was the most popular prop bet made, with the over being what most people bet on. He gave up something like 15 yards on those victory formation plays and screwed those who bet the over. Read also that some houses are refunding money to bettors who took the over. Very cool.
  13. I know I rag on Hutton mercilessly at times, but he’s turned in back to back decent performances and I gotta give him props for that.
  14. Rehashing the entire game is not the norm. Touching base with the owner is, though. Some discussions may be longer or shorter, depending. Travel/Road accommodations have been known to come up on occasion.
  15. Never gets old watching him embarrass Kiko.
  16. Uncanny, the similarity in body type.
  17. ‘Bout friggen time! Ans yeah, Mike is an awesome character. Kinda sucks knowing his eventual fate.
  18. But Cousineau never played a down for us. That said, considering what Cousineau got us, perhaps his name should be enshrined.
  19. True, that. Winning solves a lot of problems and covers up a lot of shoddiness in other areas.
  20. Me, too. Looked like a well attended event.
  21. Doughboy gets a gig. I wish him and that entire staff good luck in getting game plan approvals from the analytic nerds sitting at the table.
  22. While I also think the rant is over the top, he makes a good point about the Sabres management and their lack of attention to detail and quality control. I get that the authentic 50 year anniversary jerseys were sold out, but that’s no excuse for dressing invited alumni members to various 50th anniversary celebration activities in Chinese knockoffs. They should have ensured EVERY ex player had one by ordering them far in advance, regardless. And while I understand that they don’t do the custom jersey work in-house, that is no excuse for accepting jerseys returned with misspelled names on the back from whomever DOES do that custom work. They should be embarrassed to hand those jerseys to the alumni invited to celebrate. Shoddy is a word that comes to mind. And it makes me wonder, if they’re shoddy about these details, what else are they shoddy about? Their performance over the last 8 years suggests they’ve been shoddy about a lot.
  23. Do coaches count? I ask because it would Rex Ryan hands down. Lazy, no account, bloviating wind bag phony.
