  1. Seeing as how this virus seems to be proliferating in hot and humid climbs as well as cooler locations, I’m not full of hope that it will give us a seasonal break.
  2. Which is why I can’t t believe this was conceived and okd at the CDC; it’s counter to their mission. Politics reigns.
  3. Well said. Burrow is a gamer. Perhaps the most important trait a QB can possess as it’s highly infectious.
  4. I have to wonder if this directive traveled from the CDC up or from the White House down. Because Redfield, as brilliant an epidemiologist as he is, is also one of the most feckless people in charge of any department involved in the effort to combat the pandemic. I get the impression he doesn’t want to upset his boss, Alex Azar.
  5. When I look at our graph line, we are literally the worst country in world when it comes to managing this.
  6. Mindless, stupid, selfish idiots. I say stupid because it’s not as if they didn’t know better. Willful ignorance at best.
  7. Agree entirely. If Cincy is convinced that Burrow is THE guy, then they take him. If Cincy takes that deal, great, they have three first round picks, but they don’t have the consensus best player at the most important position in sports. You take Burrow and don’t look back.
  8. I don’t think that’s why they’re running short, though, necessarily. It’s a question of manufacturing and stockpiles. Speaking of which, has the federal government begun delivering those millions face masks yet? Or are we still not a “delivery clerk?” And yes, we MUST test. Unfortunately, we MUST also protect care givers on the front lines of the crisis. A dilemma healthcare workers and others began warning us about a while ago.
  9. The PPE required for testers needs to go to care givers instead due to the dire shortage. I agree that testers should re-use as much as possible, but the shortage is what it is, regardless.
  10. It’s the reason that NY has gone away from widespread testing that has me even more concerned: the mass shortage of protective gear needed by hospitals and other care givers.
  11. I automatically multiply by 10. The sole reason these numbers aren’t higher is the lack of testing available.
  12. I’ve been seeing a lot of strict constructionist arguments being tossed around, like that group in New Hampshire suing their governor for violating their right to free assembly, for instance. I don’t understand that argument as the SCOTUS has often explained that not all rights are absolute, like yelling fire in a crowded movie theater or like Scalia explained in his majority opinion on Heller. Bottom line is that common sense should inform these people at a time like this.
  13. I feel for all these athletes who have put in the countless hours of training just for the chance to realize their Olympic dream only to see it dashed. Not unlike the 80 games for so many back then.
  14. The states are just not able to mobilize the resources necessary to respond on such massive scales. The federal government is the ONLY entity in existence that can do so. It’s IMPERATIVE that the federal agencies involved inform the public on these matters. That is NOT the government telling us what we should do, that’s the government telling us what they are doing. There’s a huge difference.
  15. It was nice to see Fauci back at the presser and answering questions in his frank manner. He is refreshing as he doesn’t answer like he’s wrestling with a public relations issue. He’s a straight shooter and that’s what I need most at this juncture.
  16. I like to eat my freedom fries while taking in some of that freedom air! Seriously though, you make a great point about personal responsibility. I’d say a free society DEPENDS on personal responsibility. It’s the lynch pin.
  17. C’mon. Take one for the team, risk a 3 day hiatus, and tell that joke!
  18. Was it windy while all those groups of less than 10 were out walking? Wind can be a helluva vector for microscopic particles that have been shown to survive in the air for several hours.
  19. The politicians are the wrong people to be in charge, too. I don’t need another “face” to manage public relations, I need an actual pandemic response team with clear, pre-defined chains of command, strategies, tactics, and logistical apparatus spanning across all relevant agencies staffed by people who know their s**t and who are empowered to act without political constraint. Oh wait...
  20. Again, I agree entirely. But my only point was if you’re contemplating an optimal plan, then don’t wait. Do it. This way we can avoid thinking we should have done it sooner. The data needed to make the decision has been there for weeks. Pain postponed is pain none the less, and sometimes even more painful.
  21. While I applaud the courage of the various governors who have issued mandatory shutdowns of all non essential businesses and services, the Chinese and S Korean curves have been seen for weeks now and we have been contemplating these more stringent containment strategies for at least that same length of time. In the future, if we are in the contemplation stage of a plan because we KNOW it’s going to be the best short term containment strategy, then don’t delay; do it immediately and get on with it. This has never been a public relations issue, but we’ve seen leadership all across the country often treating it like it is and they’ve hesitated in taking protective defensive measures as a result.
  22. Agree entirely. Bill Gates and his resources can be used to assist in our efforts for sure, but he has no business being at the helm of this managing this crisis. Neither do a lot of other people.
