America Is Ready for a Jewish Veep. The Democrats Aren’t. Almost as soon as Harris began her search for a running mate in earnest, a campaign from the progressive left made it clear that the anti-Israel wing of the party would not vote for Shapiro. Though his support of Israel is identical to that of every other contender, though he hates Benjamin Netanyahu a lot, though his view on college campus protesters (he called it “absolutely unacceptable” that “universities can’t guarantee the safety and security of their students”) is the most common, most popular view, none of this was a match for his last name, the fact that he is an observant, kosher-keeping proud Jew, and that, like the vast majority of Jews, he supports the state of Israel. In their criticism of Shapiro, leftists pointed to the fact that he excoriated University of Pennsylvania president Liz Magill for refusing to condemn calls for the genocide of the Jews—I know, what a monster!—that he called on Penn to shut down the anti-Israel encampments, which violated university codes and guidelines—the shame!—and that he told The New York Times, “If you had a group of white supremacists camped out and yelling racial slurs every day, that would be met with a different response than antisemites camped out, yelling antisemitic tropes.” How dare he suggest antisemitism should be condemned, no matter what side it comes from! As The Babylon Bee put it Monday night, “Democrats Worried Choosing Jewish Vice President May Cost Them The All-Important ‘Death To America’ Vote.” By Tuesday morning, the Harris campaign had turned farce into tragedy and picked Walz for Harris’s running mate. There can be no doubt about it: there was only one reason to reject Shapiro, and it was that the Democrats would rather cater to their antisemitic base and lose the election than embrace the vast non-antisemitic American middle and win. “You also have antisemitism that has gotten marbled into this party,” Van Jones said on CNN Tuesday. “You can be for the Palestinians without being an anti-Jewish bigot, but there are some anti-Jewish bigots out there.” This is a party whose “progressive” politics have gone very far “back and to the left,” as Oliver Stone would say, since Al Gore chose Joe Lieberman to be his veep in 2000: Back then, “the media not only applauded it as a historical milestone but considered his piety a political plus: Lieberman was well-known for his devout faith, which, the Democrats/media hoped, would contrast nicely with President Clinton’s cigar-tinged indiscretions. The possibility of liberal blowback wasn’t even considered. But now, the truth is just too big to ignore,” Scott Pinsker wrote yesterday. “When Lieberman was tapped, antisemites weren’t yet a key Democratic voting bloc. Now they are.” https://www.thefp.com/p/america-is-ready-for-a-jewish-veep

DANCE WITH THE ONE THAT BRUNG YA: Waltzes With Wokeness. Using old-fashioned “first to 270 wins” reasoning, picking Walz over Shapiro doesn’t make much sense. Nailing down Pennsylvania (which the Shapiro pick wouldn’t guarantee, but which would at least give the Democrats a better chance at) would be a big help in getting to 270. Democrats also need Minnesota to win, but if they actually need Walz to secure blue-leaning Minnesota, the last midwestern “blue wall” state still standing in 2016, then the ticket has already lost. No, the Walz pick indicates that the powers behind the throne in the Democratic Party are all-in on wokeness and social justice, even if it means losing the 2024 election to Trump. Because Walz has relentlessly pursued a woke agenda as governor. Win or lose this or that election, the Left seems determined to rub your face in wokeness until you finally give up. https://www.battleswarmblog.com/?p=59477

Kamala Harris ‘Kneecapped Her Campaign’ by Picking Tim Walz Matt Margolis Make no mistake about it, Republicans are happy that Kamala Harris picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. He's a radical's radical with an extremist record that will be easy for Republicans to exploit going forward. OutKick founder Clay Travis, for one, was delighted with the pick. "As someone voting for Donald Trump and JD Vance in 2024, as I have told you all, I love the pick of Minnesota governor Tim Waltz," Travis said. "He's a disaster. I thought surely Kamala will pick Josh Shapiro, Democrat governor of Pennsylvania. It's a no brainer. He's the most popular political figure in the most important swing state in America. It is a no brainer. The minute that she was the nominee, I said Josh Shapiro should be the pick. She didn't pick him." https://pjmedia.com/matt-margolis/2024/08/06/clay-travis-kamala-harris-kneecapped-her-campaign-by-picking-tim-walz-n4931406

Kamala Harris' Choice of Folksy Midwest Moderate Tim Walz Wins Praise From Dem Socialists of America After Kamala Harris' picked Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running-mate, a rather surprising move which thrilled the Trump campaign and Republicans, the MSM immediately knew what their job would be: To make the far-Left Democrat appear to be a moderate, folksy "man next door" type. As a matter of fact, the word "folksy" caught on with the media about as fast as the "weird" talking point, and it was obvious that another memo had been sent and received.

Still No Press Conference With Kamala? Jazz Shaw The majority of the legacy media continues to fawn over Kamala Harris and how she has "revitalized" the Democratic Party and pumped new life into the presidential election. Her somewhat bizarre (weird?) decision to select Tim Walz has her running mate has spurred another cycle of MSM excitement, as reporters from many outlets race to find ways to not talk about either of their records. Of course, Harris is making the "don't talk about it" part of the equation a lot easier thus far. Fox News is pointing out one uncomfortable fact about the Harris campaign that can't be ignored straight through the election. In the 16 days since Kamala Harris was somehow declared the presumptive nominee without ever having to face a primary challenge, she has yet to hold a formal press conference where she would take questions from the press. Yes, she shows up at rallies and reads prepared remarks and waits for the inevitable applause of her dedicated fans, but shouldn't the press be doing their job and getting her to talk about her record and her plans for the country if she is elected? https://hotair.com/jazz-shaw/2024/08/07/still-no-press-conference-with-kamala-n3792800

Freedom, Walz style By Scott Johnson Governor Tim Walz declared an emergency on March 25, 2020, and ruled by for the following 15 minutes. His rule was arbitrary, petty, deceitful, tyrannical, and hugely destructive to life, liberty, jobs, commerce, and family. The declaration of emergency was itself predicated on a lie. All in all, the era of one-man rule gave us a picture of Walz in full. It wasn’t long — about two weeks — before the regime expelled me from its daily Covid press briefings. I filed a Data Practices Act request to discover why. It turned out that my expulsion derived from a question that was implicitly critical of the emergency regime. Walz can dish it out… https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2024/08/freedom-walz-style.php . Pointing out his mistakes is NOT being scared. wnyguy was right. You are an idiot.

Tim Walz: A Veteran from Rural America? Reportedly, the Democrats hope that Tim Walz can appeal to rural and small-town voters who might otherwise succumb to MAGA mania. They also want to sell him as a distinguished veteran of military service. In fact, while Walz has at times lived in small towns, he is arrogantly contemptuous of rural America. He infamously told fellow Democrats not to worry about the broad red swaths on electoral maps, since those rural areas consist of “mostly rocks and cows.” That line was so notorious that rural Minnesotans banded together to form a group called Rocks and Cows of Minnesota, which sold merchandise and erected anti-Walz billboards across the state. And when he ran for re-election in 2022, Walz was nearly shut out in rural Minnesota They know him as a phony. https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2024/08/tim-walz-a-veteran-from-rural-america.php

NOT EVERY MOVEMENT ON THE LEFT IS ASTROTURF BUT THAT’S THE SAFE WAY TO BET: Who is this easily exposed performance art meant for, anyway? Well I can think of a few PPP lemmings. . -
The choice is bizarre for a number of obvious reasons, though as a miscalculation it makes sense as an insight into Harris’s understanding of America in this moment. For an election where the economy, immigration and crime are paramount voter concerns, Harris has just added a blue-state governor who is weak on all three. Minnesota has seen a shrinking workforce with residents fleeing the state at record levels during Walz’s tenure, his record on border security is marked by little more than unserious flippancy — and as for crime, well… Walz’s record during the summer of George Floyd will be central to Republican attacks. Even Walz himself admitted in a press conference the response to the rioters was an “abject failure”; his slow action in that moment — combined with Harris’s promotion of a bailout fund for those same rioters — hands the Trump-Vance campaign a viscerally powerful attack line at just the moment they needed it. In a vibes-based election, apparently Democrats think picking a white bespectacled “I would have voted for Obama for a third term” guy who happens to wear a field jacket is all it takes to transform a politician who makes fellow Minnesotans Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale look conservative into a “moderate.” Moderation is a label rendered particularly ridiculous when assigned to one of the most radical culture-war governors in America. Walz is big on getting rid of any limits for any leftist priorities. He signed an extreme bill with no age limit on transgender treatment for minors — consistent with the Biden administration’s advice, but utterly at odds with the scientific treatment trends out of Europe. He signed abortion policies into law that have no gestational limits; even Planned Parenthood itself officially agrees this is the most pro-abortion ticket ever. And that’s before you get to all the other issues — education, energy, guns and more. It’s impossible to find an issue where Walz can conceivably be described as in the political middle of the nation — which is probably why even though he’s from the same state as Amy Klobuchar, his winning cohort was completely different. If you buy the idea that Walz’s appearance will lend itself to a veneer of centrism, disguising his DSA-friendly leftism as folksy and familiar instead of radical, there are plenty of media partisans willing to sell that line to you. But for the Harris campaign, this seems like a selection with massive potential to backfire. Choosing Josh Shapiro or Mark Kelly might not have inspired the progressive activists, but they would absolutely come around in an election waged against Trump and Vance. So instead of picking a popular swing-state politician who would appeal to normie Independent voters, Harris is doubling down on progressive left energy in a way that seems, in a repeat of the nature of her presidential campaign failed in 2020, way too online. https://thespectator.com/politics/tim-walz-real-life-definition-msnbc-dad/
