Readers added context New York State does, in fact, have some of the most stringent gun laws in the nation. New York has achieved an "A" from Giffords for the strength of it's gun laws, 3rd strongest of the 50 states. But criminals willing to commit murder don't care about gun laws. https://giffords.org/lawcenter/resources/scorecard/

What you mean “we,” kemo sabe? By Scott Johnson Allstate CEO and board chairman Tom Wilson had a message for viewers of yesterday’s Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. Referring to the Bourbon Street terrorist attack, Wilson seemed to have taken our measure and found us wanting: “We also need to be stronger together by overcoming an addiction to divisiveness and negativity. Join Allstate, working in local communities all across America to amplify the positive, increase trust, and accept people’s imperfections and differences.” What you mean “we,” kemo sabe? He’s not talking about himself. I think he’s talking about “you.” He’s lecturing us. What have “we” done? “We” have done something wrong. {snip} As Wilson’s statement attracted a certain backlash, Allstate responded to a request from Fox News Digital for a comment. Allstate framed its comment as a clarification: “To be clear, Allstate CEO Tom Wilson unequivocally condemns this heinous act of terrorism and violence in all forms. We stand with the families of the victims, their loved ones and the community of New Orleans. The reference to overcoming divisiveness and negativity reflects a broader commitment to fostering trust and positivity in communities across the nation.” Allstate presents as yet another example of woke corporate stupidity and cowardice. It’s not in good hands. https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2025/01/what-you-mean-we-kemo-sabe.php

Mike Johnson, New Speaker of the House.
B-Man replied to B-Man's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Mike Johnson's High Noon Moment Tomorrow Duane Patterson With the nation's focus rightly on the terrorist attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas, and with what appears to be a gang shootout at a nightclub in Queens, the vote for the first domino to fall in a series of changes from the outgoing Biden administration to the incoming Trump administration takes place at Noon Eastern on Friday. Sure, Inauguration Day is on the 20th, and that promises to a Day One for the ages. But don't forget January 6th, which is when the House certifies the election results, putting President-Elect Donald Trump and Vice-President-Elect J.D. Vance on the glide path for the 20th. But tomorrow, January 3rd, is when the new Congress and Senate constitute. There will not be any fireworks in the upper chamber, as South Dakota Senator John Thune will now run things instead of Chuck Schumer, which is a grand thing. In the House, however, nothing happens until they have a Speaker. Mike Johnson is the only person who has or wants the job, but is not a lock to win the required 217 votes. The Republican caucus will send 219 members. He can lose two and no more to become Speaker. https://hotair.com/generalissimo/2025/01/02/mike-johnsons-high-noon-moment-tomorrow-n3798419 -

The Democrats’ Culture Denialism They just don’t get it. By Ruy Teixeira Jan 02, 2025 In the wake of the Democrats’ drubbing at the hands of Donald Trump and the GOP, you’d assume the party would be all-in on a fundamental rethink, starting with some serious soul-searching on how the party came to be so out of sync with the majority of America on key cultural questions. Questions like: Is America really a “white supremacist” society? What does “structural racism” even mean and does it explain all the socioeconomic problems of nonwhites? Is anyone who raises questions about immigration levels a racist? Are personal pronouns necessary and something that should be popularized if not demanded? Are transwomen exactly the same as biological women and are those who question such a claim simply “haters” who should be expunged from polite society? For each of these questions, the answer for the overwhelming majority of Americans is an obvious no. But in elite Democratic circles, it’s a different story. For a party pondering its unpopularity, you might think that this gap would be a good place to start. Well, if the two months since the election is anything to go by, you’d be wrong. Instead, much of the party is maneuvering to change as little as possible on the cultural front. Why? Because fundamentally today’s Democrats are culture denialists. That is, they do not consider cultural issues real issues. They are typically viewed as politically motivated distractions or as expressions of something else entirely (i.e., racism, sexism, xenophobia, transphobia, etc.) They are not treated as issues that need to be dealt with on their own terms. https://www.liberalpatriot.com/p/the-democrats-culture-denialism

BIDEN’S PARTING GIFTS: Most red tape ever and more in pipeline. On the last day of 2024, Biden completed his administration’s epic march into regulatory history, publishing the biggest bible of red tape ever. With Tuesday’s release of the Federal Register, a daily listing of new and changing rules and regulations for Main Street and Wall Street to follow, Biden’s total count for the year hit 107,262 pages and 3,248 final rules and regulations. For perspective, former President Barack Obama, who relied on new regulations and executive orders to push his liberal agenda around a stubborn Congress, held the record until Tuesday with 95,894 pages. “Biden’s administration now boasts two entries in the Top Five. Page counts, while not a precise measure of regulatory burden, do reflect inclinations toward regulatory enthusiasms when those are present,” said Clyde Wayne Crews, the regulations watchdog at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. Posting in Forbes on Tuesday, Crews warned that Biden has an armload more to dump on the nation in his final three weeks as he acts to cement his legacy as a big-government Democrat. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/washington-secrets/3273058/biden-legacy-most-red-tape-ever-more-in-pipeline/ Looks like a job for the DOGE boys.

Soft on crime Democrats - the system is the problem?

On Final Day in Office, North Carolina’s Democrat Governor Commutes Death Sentences For 15 Inmates Convicted of First-Degree Murder by Christina Laila North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D) commuted death sentences for 15 inmates on his last day in office. On Tuesday Cooper announced that he has commuted the sentences of 15 people on death row in North Carolina to life without the possibility of parole after a thorough review of detailed petitions for clemency. “These reviews are among the most difficult decisions a Governor can make and the death penalty is the most severe sentence that the state can impose,” https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/12/just-final-day-office-north-carolinas-democrat-governor/ It is maddening how these self-righteous politicians think they somehow have superior knowledge or morality over the jury who sat and listened to the evidence and who unanimously voted for the death penalty . -
Former CIA Officer Warns There Are More Than 1,000 al-Qaeda Sleepers in the U.S. Planning Major Homeland Attacks by Mike LaChance This is truly chilling, especially in the wake of today’s terror attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas. A former CIA officer named Sarah Adams was interviewed on the Shawn Ryan podcast just two weeks ago, and warned that there are more than a thousand al-Qaeda sleepers in the United States right now who are planning major attacks on the homeland. She clearly implicates Biden’s open southern border as the entry point for these potential terrorists and suggests that they have developed new tactics and bombs that can evade detection through traditional means. https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/01/former-cia-officer-warns-there-are-more-than/
