  1. Remember - his option bonus has not triggered yet. We'd only pay the remainder of his signing bonus that was split over 4 years through 2020. The base salary for next year is also not guaranteed until he's on the team on that 3rd day. At that point the full 2017 base is guaranteed, the option bonus is paid out, and 3.25 million of 2018 salary is guaranteed. Basically you're dropping 30.25 mil on him next year, and 40 over the next 2 because you wouldn't cut him if you kept him beyond this year. Once we trigger the option bonus its 3.1 million spread out over 5 years of the cap.
  2. His cap hit for the next 2 years is 15 and 16. Then we'd have the option to release him for about 10M hit split over 2 years. If he somehow made it 3 years without restructuring we could cut him for a negligible loss. Not that much different than 10-12 mil per year. You don't extend a player you expect to cut - you're just delaying the inevitable dead cap hit. A restructuring would mean a whole entire new contract most likely. The option bonus hasn't kicked in yet, so you'd be looking at a new option bonus, or signing bonus, or converting something to a roster bonus for this year.
  3. They would have to extend him or he'd have to take a pay cut.
  4. Yea - kicking isn't really something you coach much. The kickers usually kinda... know what they're doing. Blocking and coverages though - we never had a kick or punt blocked, no TD returns.... even with a kicker who didnt have a good leg and a punter who had a really bad year.
  5. He already said - i need to look it over... twice. And theyre like - if you want to keep him, can you? ummm yeah? Why don't we get an offensive coordinator first before we decide whether we're keeping our QB? That we have until march to decide on
  6. Truth - even if we release tyrod to make space we have so many holes on defense (plus the obvious QB hole at that point). Graham and KW represent our only good cap casualties, and we might get a little space if AW retires. Projected cap is like 30 mil in space. Tyrod would make a little over 40. cutting williams and graham in addition to tyrod makes it close to 50. Tagging gilmore would cost like 14. But then you need 4 safeties, a couple linebackers, some d-line guys that fit, a QB, a whole crew of WRs, a RT upgrade. And you have what... 6 or 7 picks? And will piss him off...
  7. And vick was at his best under reid. Love the idea of some short passing to get our playmakers the ball more often.
  8. All for it - as long as its not bringing in cutler (jeff george) or hoyer (crappier gus frerotte) or some other mercenary QB who's never going to win anywhere.
  9. I think lawson would fit on the strong side edge while youd line up Hughes on the blindside. Dareus over center/guard. and KW/dolph/Worthy on the other side. The backers are the tricky part. Mike's gotta be moving here so i dunno if Ragland can play taht way, or if theyd prefer PB there. That would likely plug ragland in at the bart scott SAM spot. We dont really have a will on the roster. I do like the idea of Ragland at Mike only because he's got some thump to him, and doesn't mind blitzing.
  10. It's fairly rare to have the nose tackle drop into coverage. It'd more likely be the ends in lawson/Hughes.
  11. This guy called Swinney a fraud before the national championship... He just says things to get people to click his articles just like everyone else on the internet.
  12. Yeah - Bell and Cousins are prime tag candidates. Zach brown didn't even make honorable mention
  13. Yeah - not a great fit for gilmore so I don't know that I'd extend him. Franchise is tough since we don't have a ton of space to get to 53. Darby might work OK - but we're going to need some work in the secondary. Z-brown would be a solid fit as a will. Seems to fill gaps pretty well and is athletic enough - but im not giving him like... 6-8 mil a year. He fell off a cliff in the 2nd half of the year. I'd bring back lorax as D-line depth though - guys a gamer and plays teams.
  14. Good luck - That offense needs a ton of work. Needs a #1 WR, a TE, a #2 back, and a ton of help on the o-line. I think McVay could be good for Goff though.
  15. I know you guys are joking about trump - but thats who we elected to be POTUS.... so sad.
  16. Who was the one with the 4th best defensive DVOA? I'm saying for next year - we are worse off with a rookie. If he plays better - they probably make the playoffs.
  17. It means that wentz threw for 3800 yards on 600+ attempts, and Tyrod threw for 3000 on 430 attempts. Thats another 170 passes for 800 yards. He rushed for 150 to Tyrods 580. And had more sack yardage. He also threw 14 picks and fumbled 14 times... All with Pederson and reich on staff... My only statement is that there's a good chance we get worse at QB if we just go with a rookie. And the veterans available to sign, don't inspire a ton of confidence either. As for Wentz as a future - I don't know personally. I see a bit of bortles in him with the timing issues. We'll see if he can turn out to be someone like a flacco, who's a solid gamer.
  18. I'm saying that if we cut Tyrod and get a rookie - that rookie will probably perform worse than tyrod. As Wentz and Goff both did last year, and many more before them. Dak's had some very good games, but you have to know he's an anomoly. He also had a little stretch of tyrod games where he held the ball and did rookie things. That's going to happen with every rookie. They haven't seen every defense, and they're going to get confused from time to time.
