  1. Yes, but the books were reprints of the strips in chronological order. I liked having them. Hey, the man is a capitalist, but at least Calvin is not selling Wonder Bread, and Hobbes is not eating Sunkist tuna on every TV and magazine in the world. calvin and hobbes book list
  2. I *think* that showing you are a fan by using a copy of Calvin for your personal avatar, would not bother Mr. Watterson. But if you are selling the image on t-shirts, he would! "Bill Watterson is notable for his insistence that cartoon strips should stand on their own as an art form, and he has resisted the use of Calvin and Hobbes in merchandizing of any sort. This insistence stuck despite the fact that it could have generated millions of dollars per year in additional personal income." from Wikipedia
  3. I am always irked a little when I see the Cavin cartoon misused. His creator, Bill Watterson, would not license him for any purpose, and once cited the "pissing" cartoon as one reason why.
  4. Please note the sarcasm icon, my friend. You think correctly, I do understand.
  5. Of course, they make the best judges.
  6. Since Mike and Alex were there along with R.Rich and me, it was really a Bills Zone meeting. THE WNYTBDGPS will have to show up with forks and knives ready on December 15th, or face being dethroned!
  7. It was classic. The only part of the bit I really liked.
  8. Good review here: Borat "Refined, Borat ain't. But funny? Oh yes, it's very funny." FYI - Jack Garner, who rates it a 9 of 10, is an old fart.
  9. I saw some of them. I guess I wonder - who the heck buys these things? If no one was buying, no one would be selling!
  10. I wonder how many are sold? a good example for the kids
  11. Heh, the lion sleeps tonight.
  12. Sounds like Frank Zappa to me. I do not feel sorry for the younger members of the Wall. All you old farts need to remember that in perspective, "these are the good old days".
  13. He was on the Daily Show tonight. Moderately funny, IMO.
  14. I knew you were coming up for the game, but I did not recall talking about a side trip to Nick Tahoes. See you in about 12 hours.
  15. Thank you - great report!
  16. This needs to be pinned for 24 hours! I did not know you would be in Rochacha this week. I will be there! <burp> Time to start fasting now to make room.
  17. It will be interesting to see if this is a movie that gets "old" after the schtick wears off. In small doses, it looks like it could be very funny. Click for some video and text Kind of like a PG-13 Jacov Smirnoff.
  18. We had a glass ball for a while, but it just did not make it. When I was a kid I was one of the people doing Glass Wax stencils (white only) !
  19. Happy Belated Birthday, Mead!
  20. Really original too! THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND words and music by Woody Guthrie This land is your land, this land is my land From California, to the New York Island From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters This land was made for you and me MY COUNTRY words and music by John Mellencamp From the east coast To the west coast Down the Dixie Highway Back home This is our country
  21. Because of my twisted roots in South Buffalo (born in Lackawanna) and my wife's family's tacky taste during her youth in Rochester, we have always had a pair of pink flamingos in our front yard. She puts scarves on them in the winter. We tried to get the white metallic Christmas tree with the revolving light that made it change colors, but her Grandmother could not find it.
  22. Smoked for just over thirty years. Back in the 60's it was "cool". Both my parents smoked, hell it seemed like non-smokers were the minority. After trying to quit too many times, I finally did it - cold turkey. It has been over ten years now and I do not miss it ONE bit. I do admit I will smoke maybe one or sometimes two cigars a year, but that is it. I started smoking Winston (back to the original question) because I could steal a pack out of Dad's carton. Probably my favorite cigarette all-time was Marlboro. Now I think they ALL stink!
  23. The government does not fund anything. They take it from me and you and spend it on whatever they want. That system makes as much sense as handing your kid your credit card, and driving them to the mall. I guess my feeling would be if they are going to spend billions of dollars on something, maybe medical research would be more productive than, oh, new sports stadiums? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  24. No matter how good (or bad) the Bills are in a given season, the "bye" week reminds me of what the NFL would be like for me if there was not a team in Buffalo. I watched part of a few games, as I puttered around with other things, but it was NOT THE SAME. I really look forward to seeing the Bills each week, even if they piss me off. I sometimes wonder if I would stick with the NFL if the team ever moves. Bills 99, Bye Week z-e-r-o
  25. From drug help.net "LSD is initially produced in crystalline form. The pure crystal can be crushed to powder and mixed with binding agents to produce tablets known as "microdots" or thin squares of gelatin called "window panes"; more commonly, it is dissolved, diluted, and applied to paper or other materials. The most common form of LSD is called "blotter acid" - sheets of paper soaked in LSD and perforated into 1/4-inch square, individual dosage units." I am guessing then that Purple Haze and Orange Sunshine were blotter acid since they were pills? Good recreation in the early 70's, but the greatest danger is that you never knew what is was being "cut" with. I was given some "MIT clinical" acid, and experienced my first out-of-body experience. I have cleaned up but still really appreciate the Moddy Blues and The Search for the Lost Chord. Howzzat for hijacking a thread?
