  1. I doubt Revis needs much coaching, if he sees film on the player he is covering that week I think he has all the practice he needs. What are the coaches going to teach him?
  2. I don't think too many think Orton is a great QB. He is a competent QB who has real fire and has veteran savvy. Without him we would be at the total mercy of the trainwreck of an OC we have in Hackett. I bet we would be better off letting Orton call the plays like Kelly did. He may not have Kelly's arm or physical skills, but he has the instincts and the football savvy. He may not be top 10, but he can get the job done, which is better than we have had in a while.
  3. I didn't redefine anything. My coach used to constantly remind us that the game was 60 minutes long, and every second of the game counted. The winner was the TEAM who had scored the most points when the game was over. (okay our HS game was less time than the Pros, but same concept). Every play we made counted. You could have a great 1st half and dominate a team, but you had to play the whole 60 minutes. Scoring could happen in any quarter. If a single player scored 5 touch downs and the whole other team combined scored five touchdowns, but the last points scored were from a field goal and the team won the game, you would deny that the player that made those 5 touchdowns provided game winning points for his team? Take away all those 5 touchdowns, does the team still win with those 3 points? NO! Maybe to you emotionally and how you define a win as a fan means the only important points scored are the last, but logically every point counts, regardless of what point in the game they occurred. I look at it rationally and logically. To me it is about the results and the game. And without Spiller's play in this game and the points he set up, this game would have been a loss, not a win. Take away those 3 points do the Bills win? Spin it anyway you want to, those are indisputable facts. You can have your own semantic definition. it does not change those facts. It is a simply a difference of point of view, not about me be right or wrong.
  4. The last I knew it does not matter when during the game that points are scored, they just have to be scored between the start and finish of the game. Setting up a 3 point score in a game won by 1 point makes the difference between a win and a loss. Points scored in the first 3 quarters are = to points scored in the last. His play was not any less critical for the win than was Hogan's catch in the final seconds of the game to set up the 7 point TD drive.
  5. Well, all the Spiller haters on TBD got their wish. If it was Spillers last play as a Bill, at least he went out on a great play, and set up the game winning points. Good luck Spiller!
  6. NO, I was not refering to your post in this thread. More than one poster has mentioned the square peg , round hole anology in various Hackett related threads
  7. Whenever you criticize Hackett, someone insults you and says "why aren't you an NFL coach?". Implying you don't know anything. Well it does not take the skills and knowledge of a NFL PRO coach to see that Hackett refuses to believe that good coaches tailor their playbook and their calls to use the players they have to maximize their strengths and abilities and mask their weaknesses. As others on the site have mentioned, he continues to try to force square pegs into round holes. Hackett's downfall is his arrogance, ego and inflexability to accept that he can not make square pegs fit round holes even after he fails to do so repeatedly. He is not an unintelligent man, he just refuses to change. He is too arrogent and stubborn to adapt and change. He believes if he just keeps trying over and over again, the results will somehow change in his favor. They won't. And Marrone backs him. The whole coaching staff seems infected with a sense of arrogance and inflexability, even Schwartz is the same way, he just has better players that mask his weaknesses and bad decisions. They all seem to believe that they know better than anyone else, reguardless of the results of their decisions. The Bills have the players with enough talent this year to at least make the playoffs, but the coaching staff is actually holding them back.
  8. The game proved Orton is certainly no Brady, but I'm glad it was Orton instead of EJ. He is a big improvement over EJ.
  9. I guess the new OPI rule has a clause in it that says that the Patriots can not be called for it. Luckily the Bills were so bad today it would have not mattered.
  10. As long as the "bones" of the stadium are good, why move it? Yes, there will need to be more revisions and tweeks to the stadium. Concessions, bathrooms. I can see a major revision so that some prime seats are enclosed in glass so that those that want protection from the elements can pay for that privilege. They would be a premium somewhere between boxes and open seating. More money for the owner. We don't need a dome. Football is an outdoor sport. Create a space for indoor comfort for those that need it and can pay for it and we create more voluntary income for the owner, fill a fan need, and let the other fans continue to enjoy an affordable experience. Someone mentioned the other owners wanting increased revenue from the stadium. I thought that most revenue generated from the stadium facilities was not shared, concessions, parking, other frills, SLs, etc. was exclusive to the owner. Is that incorrect? I don't feel for those complaining about the location, it is fine. And those mentioning regional forget that getting closer to Canada also puts the stadium further away from the rest of WNY. Travel from the east and south is decent now, how will that help? This magical belief that all that Toronto Corporate money will flow into NF or downtown if we build a new stadium there is a unicorn dream, like the attendence and support the team had in the Toronto games showed us. And near NF or downtown increases traffic woes and travel times becouse of congestion in urban areas. It is not just the stadium costs, but the road infastructure costs the taxpayer will have to foot. It is not just about the distance traveled, but the time spent in traffic getting to the game. For many fans, getting closer to an urban area will inevitably increase travel time, even if it decreases distance.
  11. Exactly! True. Sadly, this is the real purpose of his comments. It is all about the rich wanting to get richer at our expense.
  12. Pinching nose and sacrificing all my principles to have a winning season at least once every 15 years. Me too!
  13. <p> Is that you Hackett?..... I ignored the fact that "our offensive line is crap"? If you actually read and comprehended my post I even said our O Line situation was so bad I would even be desperate enough to consider Incognito as an option. I praised the D line, D line coaching. I praised our receivers. I was positive about Orton, he was effective and smart, he was accurate in general, not at the highest level, but enough for our receivers to make the plays. Let us not get carried away on his overall level of ACCURACY. One accurate throw per game does not make a QB accurate. Many on this board are slamming Spiller, I don't believe it is Spiller, it is how Hackett uses Spiller incorrectly. He is not the perfect back, but it is the OC's job to use the skills of the players they have in a manner that maximizes their positives, while minimizing their weaknesses. Hackett is an epic fail at that in the design of the ground game. His seeming inability to adapt his game plan quickly enough to what is actually happening in real time on the field is maddening. At this point Hackett is the weakest and most easily corrected link holding this team back. I don't know how the Guard situation can easily be corrected at this point in the season, with the talent available mid season. Not sure where you could find it. As far as being an NFL coach, it does not take a pro to see the problems with Hackett. You would have to be blind to not see it; or playing see no evil, hear no evil, say no evil with your hands.
  14. Don't blame CJ for this, blame Hackett. Using CJ as a power back is like a carpenter using pliers to pound in nails. Hackett does not know how to use his tools properly. And he refuses to admit it and try to learn how.
  15. I too saw that pass to the feet and thought, now that is one smart QB, and I too thought EJ probably would have turned that situation into a crisis by either getting a penalty, getting sacked for a loss or getting intercepted. I was unsure of Orton till then, after that I was confident of his football smarts, even though I'm still not so sure of his accuracy.
  16. Again we won in spite of Hackett. In the 1st half it was again run, run, run up the middle against a great defense that was stuffing the run. 1st down, run, 2nd down run, 3rd and long obvious pass. Repeat, Repeat. He still can't figure out how to use CJ. CJ is NOT an up the middle power back. CJ's strength is his cutting at speed and his pure speed. Use him with passes and pitches while he is already in motion. Get him the ball him while he is already in motion, moving on the outside and he can move and outrun you. Don't give him the ball deep in the backfield. Hackett just does not show the ability to craft plays tailored to use the skills of the players he has. He creates generic plays and expects his players to execute them reguardless of their individual stenghts. Orton was not great, his accuracy was not great, but he did his job just good enough for his talented receivers to get the job done. His experience showed on many plays, even when it was a broken play. He knew how to properly throw the ball away when needed. His football IQ was refreshing. The receivers really showed their ability if the balls were even close, both Goodwin and Watkins both made great catches on balls Orton just barely got in the general area. The passes were not great, but at least they were finally in the general vicinity, which was enough for our talented receivers to show their stuff on.Imagine an experienced OC calling the plays with the talent on this team. We have a truely talented D coached well enough that they might even give this team with a very flawed offense a real shot at the playoffs. An experienced OC and a rest of this season only hired gun at Guard could put the Bills in the playoffs. I can't believe I am saying this, (gagging, choking, coughing) but is Incognito still available? We need a Guard and an experienced OC NOW!
  17. Who says the smartest QBs have to graduate from Harvard!
  18. And he is lucky he is playing for the Bills. After all these years of seeing below average QB play, our expectations as fans are so low. Even if his play is barely average for an NFL QB, we will view him as a success. Just making the plays an average NFL QB should be routinely expected to make, compared to what we have seen for so long, he could seem like the 2nd coming of Manning to us,lol. Look at how easily the Bills management and we fans overlooked the obvious flaws in Fitz.
  19. Yes, I really wanted a TE in the draft, but looked up the current top 6 rated draftees at TE. So far none of them really made much of an impact. ASJ,who I really was impressed with ,is at least playing, but has not made a huge impact. Ebron is at least contributing.
  20. This was a team loss, including the coaching staff. Schwartz was too conservative in the 1st half and didn¹t adjust fast enough. We needed more pressure on Rivers, what we were doing was not working, he had too much time to pick us apart. Our front line is a strength, use it! Maybe we don¹t want quite the reckless abandon of Pettine, but we don¹t want the dinosaur conservatism of a Wanny that I was seeing in Schwartz in the 1st half. The CBs were in general horrible. The LBs had a rough game. The OL was pathetic. Hackett does not know how to use the talent we have. CJ is amazing in space, but useless up the middle, especially with the weak guards we have. Create plays that get CJ in motion and in space before he gets the ball. In motion, he can outdeke and outrun almost any defender. Use our other bulldozer RBs up the middle instead of CJ. Use CJ right. Learn to mask EJs weaknesses. You can¹t expect EJ to win a game for you. I¹m not sure he will ever be that type of QB. He was bad today, but he had horrible OL protection. It was not all EJ today. The OL affected EJs performance, as well as crippling our run game. Figure out our guard problems and get the talent there NOW, whatever it takes. The ones there now are not an answer. EJ may not be the long term answer at QB, but he should be good enough to manage the game this year if we game plan around him. We have talented receivers, better than many teams. The plays need to be designed to get them the ball in situations that maximize their individual strengths. Our kicking/punting has been a surprising bright spot. AW was a defensive backfield standout this game. Overall, I think that other than the OL Guard positions, we have the talent we need in place to win some close games. The key to this season is coaching. Planning strategies and a game plan that is designed around the strengths of our players and using them right, putting them in the position to succeed. NOT creating a game plan that expects the existing players to magically adapt and change their skills to meet that game plan. And having a coaching staff that is willing and able to adjust that game plan quickly when it is not working.
  21. Yes, it's not like they let a pro bowl safety in his prime go and got nothing in return!
  22. We don't have a developmental QB on the roster. Why not pick up Boyd for a look see as a future backup QB? He won't cost much and you can always release him after a month or two if he doesn't show enough promise. He won't be a threat to EJ's psyche. There really is not much to be optimistic about concerning our QB roster, and it wouldn't make it any worse. Boyd played in two preseason games, completing eight of 17 passes for 98 yards, including one touchdown and no interceptions. His passer rating was 84.9. Of course preseason against other 2nd 3rd stringers, but how does that compare to our departed Tuel, Dixon & Palmer?
  23. A 4th round pick? We traded a 6th round pick for Mike Williams. Are you saying TJ > Mike Williams? If Williams was only worth a 6th, what would you get for a receiver on the bubble to be cut?
  24. You make it sound so logical. Too bad you are not the GM. But the Bills FO has never been very logical and smart.Orton is safe and not a treat to EJ, He is simply a "just barely good enough" player providing emergency Vet insurance. Bringing in Pryor as a developmental #3 is not safe enough for EJ as he has a potential upside and he might "threaten" EJ's fragile psyche. Tuel is safe for EJ, as he will never be a real developmental threat to EJ's psyche.
