Are we that good? Or are Jags that bad?
QCity replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Roscoe Parrish will do little to nothing to negate 3 starting defensive linemen sitting out. A slot receiver isn't run blocking in A-gaps, and the Jags lost a lot more than just a pass rush. My point was not to start an argument about who sat more players, but to highlight the effectiveness our skill position players had behind competent blocking. Again, it shows that with some OL help this offensive can move the ball well. -

The Jags had 3 of their 4 starters on the DL not playing. We were basically going up against their 2nd string line. If you want to take anything away from the Jags game, it should be the fact that the skill positions on offense looked fantastic behind an OL that can block. We probably won't fare so well against starters, but it is a sign of things to come if we focus on the OL in next year's draft. -
Moats currently holds the Buffalo Message Board title for Most Overrated Bill. As an OLB he has shown zero ability to set an edge, and becomes a huge liability against the run. His only value is as a 3rd and long pass rusher - he is not a three down LB in his current state (Batten has outplayed him in this role as well). It wouldn't surprise me at all if he winds up getting cut.

I think what many people just don't understand is that freakish size + some athleticism doesn't necessarily translate to production on the football field. Jasper was always a long shot to make the team, and after watching him play, it's quite clear that his home will be the practice squad. Look, everyone likes to root for the underdog, and I certainly was cheering him on 100%. But right now the guy has no business being on the field or the 53-man roster (not even for goal line stands). He is raw - so maybe he can be molded into a NT someday, but right now he cannot beat a 3rd string guard 1 on 1.
-
Now I've seen it all. There's a fan crying that we upgraded the practice field. I think that breaks some sort of anal retentive record, someone want to check with Guinness?
-
Check your source again. There's a new rule this year that let's teams insert and remove 3rd string QBs without effecting the starter. We actually "gain" an extra roster spot by listing him as 3rd string QB - which he is on the official site.
-
Thigpen signed for $11M as our backup and B.Smith for $15M as the 3rd string/Wildcat QB. Carrying 4 QBs isn't very likely IMO.

Does the NFL want to eliminate kickoffs?
QCity replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see what the problem is, kickoffs were always placed at the 35 yard line. And prior to 1974, they used the 40 yard line. It was a dumb rule change made in the mid-90s, and it put too much emphasis on special teams. Remember when teams used to burn 2 rosters spots on place kickers? Ug -
Round 1, Pick 11: AARON MAYBIN, DE, Penn State

This should complete this thread - Jauron/Modrak/Brandon discuss Maybin. Don't watch if you're eating. -

That's a damn fine call. -
I'm convinced that half the people on this board don't actually watch football. Best player??? Are you insane? Lee Evans is perhaps the most mediocre player to ever don a Bills jersey. He certainly is one of the most overrated. Oh how could we ever replace a guy who averages 54.4 yds/game? (that was sarcasm, I feel I should point this out) Can someone here explain to me why the Bills fanbase is so smitten with this guy? He doesn't go over the middle. He doesn't have the height to win a battle for a jump ball. He isn't a possession receiver. He disappears completely inside the red zone. His one saving grace is that he can run a deep pattern -- a skill that doesn't exactly improve with age. Oh wait - 5 years ago he caught a few bombs from Losman and almost cracked double digit TDs. Put him on the wall of fame I guess? And for the fans that think this is a money dump, L - O - L. Go look at his contract, we already paid this bum all his money upfront, the only reason he's trade bait is because he makes so little this year. That's also the only argument I can come up with to keep him. I wonder what people would say if we managed to package Evans and our 3th round pick for a first round pick?

Yeah, I would definitely buy in advance for September games when the weather is nice and optimism is high. Try Fansnap to look for available seats. If they start off 2-6 you can usually walk up and get cheap seats for Nov/Dec games.

Bills owner makes generous donation to Hall of Fame
QCity replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What a miser, I bet the Jets and eagles donate $5M each. -
Sure, by that logic Mansfield Wrotto is a better player, I mean he only gave up 1.5 sacks in 11 games. Less than half that of Harris! And I think most here would say Wrotto is marginal at best. And hey, according to that site, Kraig Urbik wasn't credited with allowing a single sack! Lookout Probowl. C'mon now. Harris is a very mediocre tackle (some would say undersized at a generous 300lb listing). Just because we have a revolving door at RT doesn't justify signing another average player. If we didn't get Colon/Clabo, there's not much out there that can help us. And Gaither wants to play LT (and be paid like a LT) so there's little to no chance of us working a deal with him.
-
He's an oft-injured zone blocking T that struggled when placed in a traditional blocking scheme (like ours). Pass.

How is the HD quality? I'm assuming its 720. What about the stream? Any latency or stuttering when switching through games? I like to switch channels like a maniac - will each have to buffer? Edit: Questions are about the Direct TV $350 service, not the other thing.

ugh now I need a drink...

The Pack went with youth (Hawk) over an injured vet that hit their cap too hard. First I heard about this, from a poster on this forum. He's not competing with Torbor, the $16M says the job is his. I think it's safe to say nobody on this board thinks he's Patrick Willis.

So, you're whining about how we haven't improved this team, and at the same time ridiculing others for whining about how we never improve this team. That's impressive for one post. Look, last year we were transitioning from a 4-3 to a 3-4. That's extremely difficult to do, even for teams loaded with talent. Compound that with the slew of injuries we had on D and it was a disaster. A year under our belt will make a difference, whether you admit it or not. The fact that we replaced Stroud with Dareus can't be stressed enough. If Merriman can stay on the field, he will be better than the revolving door we had last year at OLB. The only thing Poz has over Barnett is his youth and about $28M dollars. Barnett is far superior in coverage than Poz ever was (you own a Poz jersey I take it?) Bringing Wannestedt in as asst D coach is another plus. Whitner may very well be addition by subtraction. Comparing our moves to the Eagles is silly as they are already a playoff team poised to take their shot at the title. And I seem to recall the IMPROVED Lions still losing to Bills last year.

No, Green Bay would have kept him if he wasn't a $6M cap hit this year.

Gaither Available - Not Cleared by Raiders Drs.
QCity replied to Wayne Fontes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1) If it was tweeted that Gaither was in Buffalo talking to the Bills 90% of the posters here would do a complete 180 and claim him to be the second coming. "Back injuries aren't so bad, he could just take a lot of Advil, right?" 2) Gaither wants to play LT. Why? Probably because they make more money. He started his career at LT until he got blindsided by Oher (see that?). It looks like he's been grumbling about RT ever since and won't sign with a team that wants him to play RT unless they break the bank. -
Of which he got $6M guaranteed. And guarantees are tied to the length and amount of the contract. A 5 yr $20M+ contract would warrant a guarantee of $9M+, which is what makes this a great deal (if he stays healthy).
-
3yrs $12M is a really fair price, I never thought he would sign for less than 4-5 years. If he can stay healthy, it's a great deal.
-
I just assumed it was obvious he was going to be our #3 QB per the new CB rules.
