You don’t need to request a vehicle search once you have someone in custody for DWI. At that point the car belongs to you and the search is on whether Oliver wanted it or not. I couldn’t tell you whether they were hoping to find drugs or not but searching a car like that is common practice and anything you find is fair game.

It’s still a DUI whether he’s impaired by alcohol or drugs. To me that doesn’t read like they were looking to charge him with possessing drugs as well.

Yeah but he said they were looking for a drug charge and when they didn’t find any they threw in the gun charge. I didn’t know if he happened to know anyone that was involved in the investigation. They obviously got his blood for a reason. I’m not familiar with the penal or traffic laws in Texas but depending on the lab results, he could still be hit with operating while impaired by drugs.

The key thing here is the blood results. Anything in his system other than alcohol and he’s toast.

The league may not care how much over the limit he was. He’s still probably going to be suspended. It also doesn’t matter if the gun was legally his, he was in possession of it while committing a crime. Hence the additional gun charge.

My main course of action when I find someone driving while intoxicated isn’t to find the hard drugs. Its to stop someone from driving drunk. Finding drugs or anything else is just an added bonus. Your generalized statements about a cops approach to this stuff is way off. Also, saying most DWIs get reduced to DUI if only alcohol is involved is pretty bad advice. Not sure what state you’re in bud.

The Lions have only had a top 5 defense once with Stafford and that year they won 11 games and made the playoffs. The last few years the Lions defense has been one of the worst in the league. I haven’t looked up the numbers but it also seems like they’ve never been a strong running team with Stafford either.
