He died today.

What is not debatable is that women can now afford to walk away from a bad husband. That was not a realistic social or monetary option until the last 30 or so years. Before that time, women had to live with men who beat them, alcoholics, cheaters, etc. And of course, those women had almost no open ear to even report those sorts of things to. Divorce is awful but be real: One of the largest reasons for its increase is that women can now better fend for themselves. This BTW comes from someone who thinks the acceptable reasons for divorce only include abuse: physical, substance or severe mental (including infidelity). If you get married and have kids, you should not get divorced unless you want to guarantee that your kids will end up messed up in some way.

Gary, the difference between us is that I've read about all of those people in detail, including their own words. There is no doubt that Washington was irreligious. Adams was an infrequent churchgoer and not particularly religious although he believed in Christ and possibly his Divinity. Jefferson, S. Adams, Monroe, Madison, Paine, and Franklin were not religious and certainly not Christian. Not all the founders were irreligious but many were, and especially those most closely associated with the founding.

The US rose to its zenith when the world engaged in a couple huge wars on their own turfs and our country sat comparatively untouched. God/faith had nothing to do with it. And this Christian foundation BS is just that: BS. the US was founded by largely secular people and as a largely secular nation. That some of the founders considered questions about god is much different than that they founded it as a Christian nation. Many of the founders, of course, had no belief in a Christian god. Divorce rates rose as women gained the ability to support themselves. I am sure divorce rates would have been higher sooner if women were welcome in the workplace sooner. Divorce rates, to me, are not the measure of moral decay because it's likely just as many divorces would have taken place in 1910 if women had been able to work for a fair wage.

Demetrius Bell...run blocker extraordinaire?
Peace replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bell is great on the run because he gets out and runs people over. He's agile as hell. He fails in pass protection because he's not strong. A work in progress. -
I challenge all of you: Identify the Bills LB better than Kelsay. (crickets) You can't replace all the LBs next year. It's not possible. Might as well sign the most reliable one, even if he isn't that good. If the contract is backloaded (likely), he won't be here at the end to collect the big money.

When were things better? When people used religion to keep women down or when they used it to keep blacks down? Stop with the "things were better when..." It's a myth.
-
So you're advocating for a return to fire and brimstone religions because it's on the money?
-
Perfectly said. That Catholics don't know transubstantiation is an indictment of how little "work" they put into their faith.

Darin is Alaska Darin. So what?

Don't grovel and beg. That is a surefire way to NOT get her back. Odds are she's gone but if not, take the manly Sinatra approach and "ignore her into your bedroom."

You probably don't live in the South or Midwest. There are a TON of religious people in the US, who would deeply and correctly identify themselves as so. The US is definitely a religious country (based on the number of people practicing religion). Don't blame the messenger. This story is being picked up all over. Americans are ignorant of religion. That seems a valid conclusion when Catholics don't know about transubstantiation and Protestants can't ID Martin Luther. What other nationalities think can be a future survey. This was the US.
-
In fairness, the anti evolution people are not necessarily all Christian sects. An "extremely bright" Catholic knows what transubstantiation means.
-
He was either not bright or went to a bad school. I had all the lingo down from my years of Catholic school. The average Catholic church-goer wouldn't know much about transubstantiation. The idea of the actual conversion into the actual body and blood doesn't really come up in Mass. Not to mention is completely ridiculous.

Wah wah waaaaaaaaah

One of the best moments from school was the Jesuit priest defending this lunacy. The kids were basically mocking he belief (even though most were also Catholic) and you could even see he thought it was BS but was just adhering to the party line. I think his last retreat was something like, "I know this is hard to accept but wouldn't you like to believe that God's majesty could make such a thing possible. That is faith. That is what you must strive for." Then class returned to mockery and skepticism. A similar form of mockery happened when another priest discussed the evils of masturbation, while even discussing how a "Wet dream" was god's reward for chastity. Awesome stuff.

I suspect that the cultural differences between the US and Canada contribute to more US shootings than gun laws.

Glad someone mentioned the plane coming in/shaking/wind crap. How stupid. They will probably throw in a line later about how that wind and shaking was caused by the window that opened but that will be done just to address the criticisms. This show=FAIL. Another criticism right off the bat: Too many characters.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/28/us/28religion.html?_r=1&hp 15 of the questions are on the Pew site, but it's currently down. http://www.pewforum.org/Other-Beliefs-and-Practices/U-S-Religious-Knowledge-Survey.aspx I scored 14-15. I didn't know something about religious leaders of "The Awakening."

Arizona's Levi Brown would be a better choice.

Where's you get this? Fascism is not on a political spectrum that includes Dem and/or Republican. A Fascist leader can be either left or right. Fidel Castro, for example, is a Fascist, but is clearly a socialist and more similar to the left than right. Ditto for Mussolini. Said another way, the trademark of fascism is severe governmental "control." The Dems and Reps both adopt government control to suit their means. And while many people object to the US government's control of many htings, we do not live in a fascist state. The left coopted the word fascist and tries to associate it with "the man" on the right. But it's really not accurate, any more than when the right labels all leftists as "commie pinkos peace hippies." (Dem presidents ran both US World Wars.) I am one of Obama's boogeyman "rich," and I pay for an excellent accountant. Guess what: I pay a SHITLOAD in taxes. No accountant gets you out of taxes. Believe that, not the other myths about how the rich can always find a way out of paying taxes.

Watched episode 1. It doesn't look good. Looks like a LOST/X Files wannabe. The "drag out the secret conspiracy" thing is annoying and old. This does not look like anything better than just a reworked formula.

Agree but at least Fitz has a pair.

Today's Lynch was not the guy who was on the team most of last year. He played well. RB is not and has never been the issue. Walter Peyton and Jim Brown couldn't get 6 wins out of this team.
