Whaley will head coaching search
Wayne Cubed replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I understand that, but as KTD as said if the coach has a problem, he's going to go to the owner anyways. Let's say in hypothetical scenario the coach says to the GM, "Hey, I need a player at this position" and the GM says "I've given you a couple players at that position, use what you got". Do you think that conversation makes it to the owner? Maybe, maybe not. But if the coach really feels like he is getting jerked around, he'll go to the owner anyways. -

Why would they scratch their heads? It's not like a coach would go to an owner with "x's and o's" disagreements He wouldn't even go to the GM for that. GM's employ coaches to run their philosophy, they entrust in them. The only disagreements come with player personnel, which the GM is in charge of, for the most part. GM's are in charge of player personnel. Coach are in charge of choosing the roster and implementing their philosophies. -
Polian's Advice to the Pegulas

Find a Qb and that fixes everything. Finding Qb's is extremely tough, tons of GM's miss on them but if he does hit on one all if forgotten with the offense. -

I'd be more worried about if the coach was in charge of player personnel. Thats tough to do, there are even fewer of those. Tougher for a coach to be the coach and in charge of player personnel, IMO. There's only a couple of those in the NFL. -

Definitely, but you have to remember they've also drafted and gone after more defensive players. -

That's what the article says as well. I just didn't put it down because it's not reporting to the owner. Well it says "answers to Russ Brandon". Hoping for more? or less? -

Like I said he's not bad at O, I just listed players he's hit on. -

Yup. Was just gonna post that. But just in case people don't feel like reading. Coaches that report directly to the owner are: Tomlin, Reid, Coughlin, Carroll, Jim Harbaugh (formerly), Kelly, Garrett, Lewis and Fisher. -

You're changing the goal posts, where in my post did I say the Bills had a good offense? You said that Whaley doesn't know how to scout offensive players. I pointed out to players he has scouted that have been good. Thats it. I'm looking at their ranking and it is in part because of coaching. Ask yourself this, where do you think average coaching gets this 2014 Bills team? 9-7 right? Where does excellent coaching get this team? -

Why? You said they don't know how to scout offensive players. -
Who should have the final say in choosing a player?
Wayne Cubed replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Only coaches who have player control are Belicheat, Reid and now Kelly. Carroll has roster control but Peter McLoughlin controls draft and FA. http://www.thephinsider.com/2014/1/25/5343964/nfl-power-structures-who-really-runs-a-team -
Polian's Advice to the Pegulas
Wayne Cubed replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Since Whaley has been GM: Offensive guys they have hit on in the Draft: Watkins, Woods, Henderson, Goodwin. Richardson/Kouadijio are still ? but could be good who knows... Doug never played them. Out of the 8 offensive players drafted the Bills have hit on 4 for sure, possibly 5 or 6. I'd say thats pretty good especially since 2-3 of those are high impact players. Offensive guys they have hit on in FA: Boobie Dixon. Only other FA pick up was Chris Williams and he didn't play an entire season so it's hard to know but let's say he's a miss. Dixon is still very very nice pick up. Offensive guys traded or picked up: Mike Williams, Marqueis Gray, Bryce Brown Mike Williams apparently was on Dougs **** list or didn't fit his scheme which is a bit odd. Marqueis Gray is interesting and is a nice FB/TE combo. Brown looked good except for the fumble but again didn't see the field a ton, why? who knows. So you telling me they don't know how to scout offensive players? -

Polian's Advice to the Pegulas
Wayne Cubed replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok. Whaley took over one of the worst OL in football and didn't improve it in 2 drafts and 2 FA periods, fire him. He also drafted 3 OL and one of them turned into a bonafide RT. The truth is we don't know what the Bills have in the other 2 OL because of Marrone Your really upset about Chris Williams for $5M? What FA guard this past offseason would you have signed? There wasn't exactly premier talent at G in the offseason. Here's the list: 1. Jon Asamoah 2. Davin Joseph 3. Zane Beadles 4. Travelle Wharton 5. Geoff Schwartz Let's not forget Marrone was a former OL and OL coach. He couldn't coach up any of these players? In fact Glenn looks worse. He decided to take an average to an above average RG (Urbik) and sit him for an ageing RT. But I suppose that was Whaley's decision. -

He used some of the players then completely ignored others. His stubbornness meant Urbik sat on the bench and Pears was moved to right guard. Urbik is a much better RG than Pears. That move mad no sense. No offense to Polian but this is completely 1 sided. He's taking what Marrone said, which sounds like whining and making assumptions. -

Wayne Cubed replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You don't think sounds at all like Marrone covering his ass? "I could have done a better job if they gave me better players". Every coach says that crap. Whaley tried to make the OL better, what else was he suppose to do hand him pro bowl talent on a platter? -
Polian's Advice to the Pegulas

My biggest beef with this whole Polian discussion is the part where he says it needed major retooling. That doesn't sit right with me. Did he think coming here was going to be some cushy job where he could put his feet up? The offense is an absolute mess. The offense was always going to need major retooling. What exactly was Polian going to bring to the Bills? -
Head Coach Candidate: Darrell Bevell
Wayne Cubed replied to LA Grant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's some good articles about Bevell and his philosophy: http://q.usatoday.com/2014/09/05/darrell-bevells-offensive-gameplan-the-star-seattle-seahawks-opening-night-win-nfl-green-bay-packers-percy-harvin/ How he uses constraint plays. http://www.fieldgulls.com/2014/11/21/7260693/darrell-bevell-and-constraint-plays-a-primer-on-offensive-philosophy -
Whaley will head coaching search
Wayne Cubed replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea, yea I know you think OL is your schtick so you know after 1 year of drafting 3 OL that Whaley has done a "very, very poor job"? You mean like that fact that he got a starting RT in the 7th round of the draft? Wow, what a crap job he did there. And I guess you've already made your mind up about Richardson and Kouandijio, their collective careers are done in the NFL after 1 season, who knew. Obviously OL don't struggle at first adjusting to the pro game. How long did it take Andre Smith to becoming one of the best RT's in the NFL? Oh that's right, it took 2 seasons. And I find this part even more odd. You've watched him over the years huh? According to your favorite football analytics site PFF, Urbik was the 8th best RG. Let's repeat that so it sinks in, the 8th best RG. What does St. Doug do, well he lets his stubbornness get the better of him and benches Urbik in favor of Erik freaking Pears. Is Urbik a good LG? No, he's pretty average but he is certainly an above average RG. The benching of Urbik is mind boggling. Lets not forget Glenn is now regressing at LT but I suppose that's because poor ole' Doug is just playing the hand he was dealt. Or wait, why doesn't Doug realize that maybe his line has some weak spots and change up the way it's run? Or coach up some guys seeing as he is a former OL and coached the OL for many years. -
We need a Coach & OC that can properly develop EJ
Wayne Cubed replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This. Bevell or Malzahn are my top 2. In the end these 2 coaches don't necessarily need to be able to develop EJ specifically but they have both shown they can develop young QB's, Malzahn maybe more than Bevell. EJ is already in Buffalo so he would the obvious choice but if they see a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round they think they can develop, than that's good too. A coach that can develop a young QB would be my choice. Bevell was one of the few people that attended Wilson's pro day and returned to Seattle and asked Carroll to draft him. -
Does Terry Pegula Have A Clear Strategic Plan?
Wayne Cubed replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And just look where a guy like Casserly is stearing the Jets, towards Marrone. -
It could be super simple like if they've already found the guy they want, Gus Malzahn but need to fill that obligation, they'll pick someone on the staff already like Donnie Henderson or Pepper Johnson.

Head Coach Candidate: Adam Gase
Wayne Cubed replied to Joaquin1119's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is ridiculous. He's a popular candidate. He was popular last year and he's popular this year. Is every other team that's requested an interview clueless? It's called doing their due diligence. Doesn't mean they are going to hire him. -

Anyone watching the Cotton Bowl?
Wayne Cubed replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea the defense hasn't helped him at all but I think he still forces the ball. The 2nd INT, he should have taken the sack or thrown it away... It was dumb and they were in scoring position. But like I said he's got everyting else. Great arm. Reads complex defenses. Good pocket awareness.
